facts:
it took 3 attempts to film the movie. the take used for the final cut was the 3rd take and completed in the early hours of 27th april 2014.
shot in one single continuous shot (134 minutes).
the original screenplay was very short (only 12 pages), since a large part of the dialogues is improvised. because of this, the writers of the movie are credited for ‘story by’ and not for screenplay.
due to its large amount of english dialogue, this movie was disqualified for an academy award nomination in the best foreign language film category.
after russian ark (2002), this is only the 2nd european single shot feature film. danish cinematographer sturla brandth grøvlen used a handheld canon eos c300 digital cinema camera, without a steadicam. the c300 was installed inside a redrock cage, weighing around 5.5kg in total, with a heat package around the viewfinder to prevent it fogging up. this provided a top handle, as grovlen wasn’t using the handle that comes with the c300.

sebastian schipper: when victoria is leaving the club to get her bike, schipper walks in the background of the shot. laia costa recognized him and gave him a little look before she is looking back at her bike again. he surprised everyone and walked to his car to get his chewing gums.
in the scene right after the bank robbery laia costa actually forgot where to drive and takes the wrong turn. everyone’s outburst of panic in the car is completely genuine as they were risking filming crew members and thus ruining the whole take. even the director sebastian schipper, who was lying in the trunk of the car, started screaming directions in sheer panic. his screaming was later removed during audio editing. the car actually ended up driving past crew members but none of them can be seen thanks to the cameraman who reacted quickly by filming from a much lower angle so as not to have any windows in the frame.
upon first entering victoria’s cafe, sonne accidentally says “this is a nice hotel,” but then laughs and corrects himself saying “a nice cafe.” the movie ends fatefully with sonne and victoria in a hotel room together.
