Python implementation of how a decision tree determines which attribute to split its data on. This specific implementation uses the Gini heterogeneity index used to determine uncertainty in ordinal data. The tree will split on the attribute that yields the smallest amount of uncertainty.

I have used this to select an attribute that yields the smallest uncertainty from two datasets: camping, and weather.

We can see that from the camping dataset, the attribute yielding the smallest Gini value is the ‘windy’ attribute. If we look at the data, we can see this was likely to happen, due to the fact that every example of a ‘windy’ value of ‘yes’ was paired with a ‘camping’ value of ‘no’.

From the weather dataset, the attribute yielding the smallest Gini value is the ‘outlook’ attribute.

Could you imagine being this bitter, exclusive and gatekeepy that you need to frame your entire existence around a fucking GAME.

Like, go outside, jesus christ. More people into D&D and other people’s campaigns means more D&D content, so yes, fans are just as important as players. There are THOUSANDS of people who create amazing art and content who have never played in their own campaign, and they keep this fandom alive and beautiful and ever-growing.

Someone else’s enjoyment of a campaign they aren’t in doesn’t lessen your experience as a player so stop fucking acting like it does. You can be in a campaign and someone else can enjoy watching Critical Role at the same god damn time and you’re both allowed that and part of the community.

There’s a lot of fans out there who actually wish to play the game. I can’t go through the Critical Role tag without posts and comments saying “Man I wish I had a group to play with”.

Just because you’re lucky enough to have a group to play with, and by god, luckier enough to have someone actually willing to DM your games, doesn’t mean you’re a True Fan or whatever the hell that is.

Let people enjoy D&D in any way they want. It creates more content for those who actually play the game, and reaches a far bigger audience than just a couple of friends meeting up in their friend’s apartment every two weeks.

So by the gatekeepery logic, once someone has played are they in for life or do people stop being part of the community if their group breaks up? If it’s the latter are they only allowed back into the community again when they find a new group or is keeping up with releases enough to keep them in? Is a DM part of the community while they prep for their first game even though play has not started yet?

I have some players who are not into D&D beyond their own character sheet and see it as a fun thing to do when we get together but don’t seem to think about it much outside of game time, I have friends who eat, breathe and sleep D&D but are too anxious to play online or in person so they create characters and write fic. Both types of fans have a place in the community. If you love D&D, if you are invested in the success of it, you belong.

I would rather have someone who loves D&D but has never had the chance to play be in the community than someone who has played 100 different campaigns but wants to play bouncer with who is allowed to feel included. Don’t be a dick!

I’ll tell ya. One sort of culture shock thing I experienced when visiting @rudescience again was traditional gender roles. And that I was requested to fit them.

Dress this way. Don’t play sports with children. Don’t sit in the grass. Make coffee for guests and serve the men first. Don’t try to open the big heavy gate yourself. Act lady like. Etc.

Certain things I do of my own accord but it was so stressful to have to meet these expectations I’m not used to. It made me angry at certain times (which I kept to myself).

I wholeheartedly refuse to do things just because a woman is supposed to. I still like doing certain girly things (like organizing and cleaning) but typically refuse to do it if someone tells me it’s expected for a woman.

I did my best. Luckily, Burim likes me exactly how I am.

Do you know how many dogs I’ve met that get scared or anxious around men because in their previous home men hit them? A lot, and they are very protective of the women who have adopted them now.

Men who are violent towards women are often violent towards animals as well. They think we’re all chattel. If a man wants you to choose between your dog or cat or him, dump the guy. Those animals will love you for the rest of your life, loyal and true.

Actually, I have something to add.

The other day I saw a story where a woman was asking why her dogs had suddenly started growling at her boyfriend whenever he was in the same room as her son.

And my immediate thought was ‘that boyfriend has hurt the kid somehow.’

Spoilers: that was exactly the case.

The first time my sister came to visit, via plane, after I got my dog, pupper growled at her and wouldn’t go near her for the first day. Next visit was by car (two day drive)and pupper LOVED my sister. They snuggled and played and none of us could figure out why the change. We thought maybe the scent of my sisters cat had lingered on her clothes, making that first visit a rough one. Whereas when she came by car, the scent had had time to wear off. Well that was partially true…

Fast forward about six months when I went north to visit my family. My sister walked into my parents’ house and pupper ran to greet my sister. Stopped dead in her tracks and started growling and barking. Hackles raised, full protection mode. My sisters husband had just walked in behind her.

My precious puppy wanted NOTHING to do with him. She barked, growled, ran away, and sat between him and my sister. Y'all my dog had spent maybe a weekend a half around my sister but protected her like this was her flesh and blood.

Eventually, my sister filed for divorce on grounds of “Extreme and repeated mental, emotional, and sexual abuse.” Divorce was final in less than a month because her claims were substantiated.

Trust the dog, honey. They KNOW.

I’ve never owned dogs, but I used to work with horses (which are a lot like big dogs).

There was this one horse I worked with named Tonto. He was a doll. He followed me like a puppy, snuck treats out of my pocket, he was the sweetest thing. We were practically inseparable.

A guy I was considering dating came to visit me one day, and Tonto wanted NOTHING to do with him. Normally well behaved, he shoved himself between us and would NOT let this guy near me. He was stomping, acting really aggressive, and tried to bite the guy. This horse was practically dragging me back toward the barn. At that moment, despite being like, 17, I knew something was up, and ultimately things didn’t pan out for guy and me.

A year later I found out he had lied about his age (he said he was 18 but he was actually 27) he was arrested for sexually assaulting an 11 year old girl.

TRUST THE ANIMALS.
