Hello o/ [wave] There isn't much of a theme to this—I just reblog whatever. This blog runs on queue, but I do check in from time to time!

On this blog, you'll encounter image descriptions and transcripts, which are written for visually impaired users. Blacklist #undescribed and #no id for posts without these. The ones I've written are compiled @bituin-describes! Let me know if there's something I have to improve on or fix, too.

looking at someone's tags on my post and i know they're well meaning i know they believe in m e but seeing "intelligence isn't innate you can just learn and train for IQ tests maybe some disabled people will just need longer" and again i KNOW they really mean well and believe this but it does hurt to hear a little bit because for a lot of us, like me, our brains just won't grasp certain concepts. there are so many things where i've tried so, so hard and had things explained to me so many ways but it just can't stick in my head. i can't understand math more complex than the very basics, i can't understand programming and a lot of computer stuff, i struggle to read complicated things and i don't get complicated social stuff. my point is, that's not evil, it's not a bad thing, im not a bad person for not understanding this stuff. it's not that important that i understand it, it's more important that my life is accommodated for so that my disability doesn't mean i can't participate in day to day life. that's all. i don't need a high IQ or to understand complicated math or what certain social cues mean, i need people who are willing to be patient with me and help take care of me. why are you so fixated on the idea that surely we aren't really unintelligent and if we just try hard enough we can be like you?

Psychosis can mess with critical thinking skills and make completely irrational things seem perfectly logical at times. When a delusion kicks in, it can be very difficult to logic your way out of it.

I periodically think my milk is filled with slugs and larvae, even though I know rationally, that's not the case. Most days, I can work through that by reminding myself that I live with other people who also drink the milk, and if there were bugs in it, someone else would have noticed, so it's more logical that I'm just hallucinating.

However, the worse psychosis gets, the ability to logic like that can become more difficult. I might start thinking things like "they're only pretending to drink the milk to trick me" or something. They're not, and the milk is fine, but... the brain fills in the gaps of the logic with whatever it can to preserve the delusion.

Delusions often sound completely ridiculous on the outside, but when you're in the delusional state, it feels completely rational, often in ways you can't fully explain.

I often come out of delusions and think "how did I think that was real", but… well, brains are mean like that, y'know?

its okay btw if you could never relate when people talked about having annoying but loveable parents. its okay if you never got the movies that tried to say "your family ultimately just wants what's good for you!". its okay if you felt mad (for some "mysterious" reason) whenever people said things like "you'll understand / forgive your parents someday!". its okay if you never got why all the adults seemed to just assume that things were okay at home, why they would always dismiss your struggles as something small, why they would always say "you'll laugh off the things your family did ". you didnt deserve that, you deserved (and still DO deserve) people who listened and understood the hurt that can come from these things. i love you.

Hey all! Normally when I post for Mona's community aid initiative, I post about the communities of refugees she is helping. But today I went to Instagram to update you all and saw that she hasn't posted since April, and we hadn't spoken since then either. She hadn't messaged me updates like she normally does. I was very afraid. It turned out she had broken her phone during a displacement, and she hasn't been able to replace it due to the high costs. Mobile phones are a scarce and expensive resource in Ghazzah but they are a lifeline for the families there. And for Mona it is not just a lifeline for her family but also for the refugee community she has dedicated the last few years of her life serving. She cannot connect with her usual network of volunteers or access funds without her phone (she had to contact me through her mother's phone). Despite helping displaced refugees, her and her family are also displaced refugees also living out of a tent, and she cannot currently afford a replacement. Please please please help her get a new one so she can continue doing the life-saving work she has been doing. Chuffed link to support Mona.

Hey I wanted to thank everyone for helping us with rent, we were able to pay that at least and we’ll figure out other bills later.

I recently welcomed a new bundle of joy into my life as an infant family member was placed into my custody.

She’s a week from being four months and while the state will be helping us with monthly payments and WIC, because she’s only been in my custody for a short period of time it’ll be at least a week before I can use those services. It was also unexpected - I didn’t know she was born and even after they contacted me, it was a ping ponging situation. Then they’re asking if we’re available for placement within a week.

Suffice to say, we didn’t have a lot of time and resources to fully prepare. We have formula and diapers but they’re running low and I’d rather she not run out before I can use those services to help pay for her needs.

If you could send a few bucks so we can re-up our supply before her WIC appointment next week, that would be much appreciated. We are a queer multiracial couple and first time parents.
