[11/14/16, 9:47:53 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: legit it always skeeves me out when I think about the first movie and how Billy and Stu openly admitted to raping and killing her mother [11/14/16, 9:52:22 PM] ~ Skye ~: AND IT'S JUST SO GLOSSED OVER AFTER THAT ONE SCENE LIKE 'welp that happened' [11/14/16, 9:54:00 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: YEAH HONESTLY but I mean it was subtle enough and they do bring up Billy in every movie after the fact so it is still nudged at but most people focus on the murder part and not the fact that there was hard evidence that Maureen had also been raped and the fact that it was her daughter’s BOYFRIEND who did it and then hid it from Sidney for a YEAR just [11/14/16, 9:54:13 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: GOD Sidney had to come to terms with all of THAT [11/14/16, 9:55:39 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: and I feel like she healed from a lot of it about halfway through her freshman year of college. not completely, she is never completely healed until we see her in Scream 4, but she’s healed enough to pursue another relationship comfortably, and they do establish that she’s living her life pretty normally in college and she’s got her own little friend group and a boyfriend she likes a lot, who cares about her, etc. [11/14/16, 9:56:08 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: and ofc she starts getting wary when the murders start happening again because she’s already been through that once and has learned to be cautious because of it [11/14/16, 9:57:55 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: and with everything that happened in scream 2, I feel like she either finished college as quickly as she could or she just dropped out completely after another semester because, while she wants to live normally, she’s got it in her head that it’d be better for her and everyone else if she moved away from woodsboro and lived in the middle of nowhere, not having physical contact with anyone but her father who brings her groceries and such and does her errands/shopping for her so she’s not putting herself or others at risk [11/14/16, 10:00:47 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: and because of the Stab 3 murders and the killer tracking her down, she realizes she can’t run from it anymore, and she has to confront her past that she’s been repressing head-on. it’s painful, but she does it, and she finds out that the half-brother she had NO IDEA existed caused everything to happen. sure, he only intended to get billy and stu to orchestrate maureen’s murder, but they took it a step further, which caused this avalanche of murder to happen, and she finally brings it to an end by killing roman and effectively killing the negatives in her past because he was the cause of all of it [11/14/16, 10:02:45 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: and then, a decade later, after piecing herself back together and writing her story in her words from her perspective, she’s taken back her narrative and returned to woodsboro, and even though there’s someone patterning the original woodsboro murders/stab movie, she doesn’t blame herself for it. not for a SECOND does she think it’s her fault, because she’s grown out of her survivor’s guilt and moved past it and realized that she isn’t her mother, and even if she were, it doesn’t justify the murders and her being targeted. [11/14/16, 10:04:20 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: and THAT’S why she’s able to kill her own cousin, who’s half her age. she’s a survivor and she owns it; it’s part of her identity and she hasn’t gotten to that point by letting people have a free pass because they’re family and whatnot. she does what she has to do to protect herself and innocent people who could end up being collateral damage in the process (dewey, gale, etc.) [11/14/16, 10:04:55 PM] esteban julio ricardo de la montoya ramirez: I just have a lot of feelings about Sidney Prescott and how BEAUTIFULLY she and her story was developed

As soon as she turns around he realizes his MISTAKE. She’s a little older than most of the employees and– notably– lacking a name tag.
Dammit.
“Wow, I honestly didn’t– um. YIKES. I wish I could say this is the first time that’s happened, but it’s kind of becoming a bad habit. I guess I’ve just gotten used to having the non-fiction section to myself. Still, I should have known. I guess the store’s promoting some big new bestseller, right?” She probably doesn’t care any more than he does, but his foot’s properly in his mouth and he’s got no GRACEFUL way to get it back out again. So he’s doing what comes naturally to him: grasping unsuccessfully at straws.
It’s hard not to find the whole situation a little comical, and it’s inherently good for her to do so. She’s finally in a place in her life where she can relax; it’s been over a decade since she’s been kept awake at night because of a chilling voice on the other end of the phone, since she’s had to watch friends die around her, one by one, until the person responsible reveals themselves. She can interact with people without fearing that somehow, for some reason, they’ll end up a target – and she’s finally crafted a more accurate image for herself. So as he over-explains, she nods along, letting him finish before she interjects.
“Yeah – I think they are.” It’s the closest she’ll get to tooting her own horn as she adjusts the strap of her purse, offering him a kind smile. “Really, I don’t mind. Who knows? I might find some interesting material to add to my reading list.” Unlikely that translations would be the way to go, but she was open minded.

“Excuse me– I, um. Was hoping that maybe you could help me find out whether you’ve got any pre-1945 Vedic translations or, alternatively– anything regarding the sacrificial god-kings of ancient Ethiopia?”
She’s immersed in the biographies section of the store when her internal debate on whether to pick up another book for the last leg of the trip is interrupted. Confusion spreads across her face for a few seconds before realization dawns on her, a small, friendly smile pulling at the corners of her mouth as she shakes her head.
“I’m sorry – I don’t work here, I’m just –” promoting my memoir. It hits her that such a line sounds pretentious (especially given that the book signing ended roughly a half hour ago). “I could help you look?”
sharon-needles:
Surprise, Sidney.
I’m glad Scream 4 ended the way it did just because the way it was originally going to end called for a fifth movie and while they probably would have made it in time, part of me always thinks that they wouldn’t have had it finished before Craven’s death and it wouldn’t have been the same without him.
