I know I reblogged the first image just a minute a go but this iS CLEARLY SUPERIOR!
I died.
Keep me in your heart
I think the reason I enjoy Ghibli so much is it romanticizes the little things. It makes me want to bake, study, clean the house, garden, and more while listening to happy music and occasionally picking wildflowers and lying in the grass. It helps me find joy in day-to-day life and that’s honestly sooo important for my mental health.
Hayao Miyazaki has said on numerous occasions that he wants children to know that even when the world seems harsh and life is hard, it is always still worth living, and there is always something beautiful in it.
That mental health boost is intentional and Miyazaki wants you to believe that you should continue to live, even if just for those little things.
A trio of black women at Kensington Publishing is challenging the old, predominantly white narratives of who gets to fall in love.
I finally had time to sit down and dig into this excellent article. This is fantastic:
“The company has forged a chain uncommon in mainstream publishing: an unbroken line of black women, from the novel’s protagonist, via the author, to the editor, to the art director who created the cover art (featuring a black woman).
“This was a ‘black on all sides’ mainstream publishing project. And it worked.”
But I think my favorite detail is this one:
“For The Loyal League’s Civil War setting, Noble wanted to make sure the woman on the cover embodied strength. ‘They kind of got us beaten up and down, and I kept saying, “This artist has to make sure this woman is powerful.”’ Then, she says, with a proud smile, ‘I art-direct. Every detail, down to the ribbon on her dress. I need it to be historically accurate, I need it to be powerful.’“
That attention to detail shows too. The covers of Alyssa Cole’s Loyal League series are some of the best to come out in years. You get a wonderful look at the cover of An Unconditional Freedom (out this fall) at the link. Please revel in the small details, like the mossy trees in the background, or the texture on the hero’s vest, or the soft glow from his lantern. Gorgeous.

These are the most stereotypical young republicans I’ve ever seen
This judge had exactly the right reaction to the shameful way nonviolent prisoners are treated in US jails
A woman was denied pants or tampons after being arrested for not completing a diversion course that was part of her sentencing from a shoplifting charge. But see how the judge reacts when she finds out that the prisoner’s humiliating treatment is apparently routine.

happy pride month!
Republicans are mean, cruel people without empathy and compassion for anyone who isn’t them. They are incapable of feeling tall without first kicking someone else down, and then blaming the person for being a victim of being kicked.
Republicans are hypocrites without peer.
They offer thoughts and prayers to people in trouble, but demand funding and political action for the problems they struggle with. They want “small government” for themselves, but big intrusive government for everyone else. They pretend to be concerned about bullying, but carry loaded AR-15s in public to intimidate others. They use social media to harass the survivors of school shootings. They cry about “political correctness” but then demand respect and civility when they’re called out for being awful human beings. They like to call themselves Christians, but support con artists, liars, rapists, pedophiles and blatant racists for political office. They piously fake concern for children, but turn around and defund any social programs that would help children and their mothers - including defunding things like school lunch programs.
This is true of Republicans in general, but it is especially true of Trump supporters.
The Republican Party is evil.
I can’t wait for the day a woman’s strength isn’t dictated by how much abuse she can endure
