Parchment holes in manuscript repaired using embroidery circa 1417, currently in University Library Uppsala, Sweden
What wait WHAT
I love seeing parchment / vellum mended with stitching! Here are some more.
Oh, to be a medieval monk sewing a patch in an old book with your most vibrantly colored thread
These all look like microorganisms or animals. To me.
Underrated hilarious element of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is that. Dunk's name isn't even Duncan. It's actually, literally just Dunk! he just panicked when Egg went "Ser Dunk. That’s no name for a knight. Is it short for Duncan?"
And now other people like Raymun are calling him Duncan and he's gonna be recorded in HISTORY as Duncan. And. His name is just fucking Dunk. That's it.
And this is also book canon, btw.
Actually the funniest bts photo ever
Aerion before and after Dunk
listen i'm not advocating for exotic animals as pets, but i really just feel like cheetahs are probably different
i feel like we need to give them another shot as housebeasts
this is a critter who wants greenies and then to take a nap on the couch next to me, and i KNOW it
cheetah in House perfec t size for put inside! inside very Soft and Comfort cheetah sleep soundly put cheetah in House. Put Cheetah In House. no problems ever in cheetah in ho use because good Happy and Satisfy for human where sleep. House yes a place for a cheetah put cheetah in house can trust cheetah for giveing good love to humans in house. friend cheetah
I mean, as someone who as worked in a zoo, this is fairly true.
Obvious disclaimer that you shouldn't have wild animals as pets.
But like, cheetahs are the only large cats that keepers will do free contact with. Hell, even most small cats don't get free contact. (Because small cats can be VICIOUS. They'll have a baby pallas cat wearing thicker gloves than when handling an owl. Because small cats can just be vicious.)
Like I think the only other cat at our zoo where I've seen free contact with was servals? Because I know they've used servals in shows to demonstrate their natural jumping ability. But I know servals can sometimes have a mean temper as well. Meanwhile they'll do the cheetah run and afterwards put the mic by the cheetahs and it's just like an engine with them purring. It's fascinating to watch when the message in every other large animal is "no free contact because it's dangerous even when they're born in captivity".
Legit if any wild animal could be adapted to a pet it would be cheetahs lmao. Only problem is they can be skittish and very anxious and that's why they're often raised around dogs in zoos to gain confidence.
congrats, i award you funniest take on this post
Any day now
people have suddenly started reblogging this post of mine from february 8th, 2012. great bit everybody
getting paid to say home for two weeks and play Doom and Animal Crossing
Five years later, this reads like someone’s dying note in a survival horror game.
i'm thinking about charlotte brontë spending her last years editing and publishing her sisters' writings and about christopher tolkien dedicating his life to the protection and meticulous reconstruction his father's life's work and about johanna van gogh publishing the letters between vincent and theo that would propel vincent van gogh into fame because she knew how much her husband had loved his brother, and about how so often art isn't just a reflection of the artist's mind and skills but a testament to the fact that they were loved
My sister just quoted this post at me over dinner bc it was discussed in her philosophy class & I can't even smugly inform her of its authorship. Due to the mindhunter yaoi state of my most recent blog history.
reading a negative review of something you love written by a person who very clearly didn’t understand it at all
annoying when shows set in the medieval period have the women with thier hair just long and unstyled and out . girl go put on your wimple girl 🤦♀️
like there are so many fun medieval hair and headgear options, it's so boring just seeing loose beachy waves meant to appeal to 21st century beauty standards
put that hot prince in a gay little hood with an ostrich feather or so help me god
#on one hand this is cute and so on point #on the other i've got bad memory and this scares me (x)
Oh, this is doable! You take notes!
Something I do - you can do this digitally or manually - is make a little notebook (or section of notebook/file) for each person you wanna remember things on.
Personally I find it helpful to colour-code different things when I remember to, such as red for food, green for likes, etc etc. Or different emojis! Heart for likes, a bowl or something for food, and whatnot. You can make a little interpretation guide at the beginning so you remember how you want to use it!
*checks urban legend notes* Victor Hugo was closer to God than any of us?
idk man I've read Les Miserables, I think it's fair to say that his empathy and compassion for the sex worker is not merely transactional. I don't think there's a contradiction there, and I don't think the prostitutes of Paris were mourning just for their best client. I think he saw worthy and valuable people everywhere, and people felt that.
also yeah dude fucked like a rat on bath salts
Tumblr did not “Goncharov” Poob. Poob is Glupp Shittoing Tubi/Pluto/Roku Channel/Hulu/etc.
none of these words are in the bible. or the dictionary, for that matter.
#While this is a joke#For the etymologists out there#Tumblr did not “goncharov” poob#translation: Tumblr is not making a fictitious thing called poob that we insist is real#Poob is glup shittoing (streaming services)#Translation: Poob is now a generic name for whatever streaming platform is out there when you don't feel like naming something specifically
Etymologists are on Tumblr for the same reason Primatologists are out in the jungle: It's where the Monkeys are.
why go to the grocery store or to a restaurant when you can just get food delivered why go to the mall when you can get same day shipping on amazon why go to the library when you have kindle why make art when there’s ai why go to the cinema when you can stay at home and watch netflix. we are in a loneliness epidemic btw
the loneliness epidemic was invented by BIG SHIT to sell you more SHIT
you'd think that "inhuman thing that isn't a person but speaks like a person and talking to it will slowly drive you mad" would only be found in folktales and fables and so on. but no. chatgpt
Genuinely one of my favorite things about TNG is how often they're just doing art for fun. Riker's been playing trombone since he was a kid and he really enjoys it and also he is Not Good. Dr. Crusher is stalking the halls trying to rope all her friends and acquaintances into joining her community theater productions and musical reviews even if they've never been on stage before. They're constantly going to their crewmates' music recitals and poetry readings, and some of these people are impressively good at what they do but some of them are just getting started or content to stay at beginner level. They're having fun! They don't have to be prodigies in order to be involved with art because engaging with art on whatever level has value of its own! THIS is what I want to see in my post-scarcity socialist space future. Will Riker's bad trombone playing is load-bearing, actually.
