Honestly so much of this wave of transandrophobia is just repackaged queer discourse of Olden Times (ie 2016).

Like I've literally gone on blogs of transandrophobes, searched the word asexual, scrolled back far enough and found they were part of the aphobic clan too, but when that fell out of favor they had to switch to a new "acceptable" target.

Like "oh trans men can't say tr*nny!" I remember being told I couldn't use the word dyke because I wasn't a lesbian, I was only pansexual. And yet when queerphobes saw me with girls they would call me a dyke and, shockingly, trying to say I was "only" pansexual didn't make them apologize! It just made them call me a dyke again!! (And shock and awe, I still use the term dyke for myself because I've been called that since high school, like 15 years before I came out as transmasc!)

"Trans men can't use t4t or egg!" Wow, again, I was told I couldn't call myself butch because that was also only for lesbians and I was a gross pansexual so I couldn't use that term. Ace people couldn't use queer because um actually they aren't queer because....who knows.

It's all repackaged discourse that I've been seeing since I literally came out in fucking 2008. Hell, I see the same with TERFs who get mad about being called cis! "I'm not cis I'm just normal!!!" It's literally the same thing homophobes used to say when you called them straight! They would say the same fucking thing!

Discourse is a cycle and it's so frustrating to see the same people move from target to target based on who is "acceptable" to hate. Right now it's trans men. Who fucking knows who the next target will be? And everytime I point this out they get SO mad. Like "well I never hated on ace people so you're wrong", as if the things they say don't still line up exactly with shit said about ace people. As if I haven't seen cishet people being transandrophobic and then found out they were also major acephobes back when that was the big discourse.

Like maybe think why you want an acceptable target? Why do you want to hate other queer people so badly? Why do you want a Bad Identity that's okay to hate?

Like fucking transfems don't own Blahaj, it's not "appropriation" for trans mascs to go buy a fucking Ikea shark. (and as stated above, 99% of the people being transandrophobic aren't even trans themselves)

Grow up already, stop repeating the same cycle.

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:

Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.

We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.

Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.

are you aware of any issues comign from cats being polydactyl? i imagine having one or two extra toes isn’t too bad but some of them with way more make me think it looks uncomfortable. no specific reason i’m asking i am simply curious to see what you have to say!

I’m not a fan of intentionally breeding for polydactyly - especially when going for as many toes as possible. While it may not have the same innate health issues as other novel traits it isn’t without risk.

Ingrown nails are a significant risk with polydactyl cats as they often aren’t able to scratch with (some of) the extra digits to wear them down and peel off the outer shell, the atypical placement can also make them hard to see and easy to miss during routine nail clips if you don’t know to look for them or aren’t keeping count.

Sometimes the extra digits aren’t fully attached, instead fixed to the limb only by flesh, making them susceptible to being caught and torn off during playtime or fighting.

You can also run into issues where the extra digits further - or even the normally placed digits - develop with other abnormalities, because where there’s one it isn’t uncommon for their to be more, so sometimes we’ll see polydactyl cats that also have syndactyly or a short toe or they can’t extend/retract the nail on a toe, etc.

Cats that are naturally polydactyl are adorable and it’s fine to love them and even want to adopt or find one, it’s a trait that does occur semi-regularly in feral/stray populations and these cats can (and typically do) live full and normal lives! You just have to be a little more on top of nail clipping.

I just don’t think it’s a trait we should actively be seeking to reproduce.

Can confirm the nail issue. My cat that I found at 4 weeks is polydactyl, and the two extra nails grow extra long and don't get worn down as well.

He also is VERY against having his nails trimmed. Me and my mom had to burrito him and hold him down to finally get them done the other day because his middle claws were curling WAY too far inwards.

Our other cat with normal amount of toes needs his nails trimmed regularly as well, just for maintanence, and none of them are ever at risk of getting that long because he wears them down on his scratching post.

I love my boy and his mittens and may adopt other polydactyl cats in the future, but you have to be ready for those nail issues.

I am so sick of when one trans men is shitty in some way, like being racist or transmisogynistic, people are like "omg this is proof every single trans men ever is an evil horrible person"

but then a trans woman can be like incredibly bigoted and racist and if you call that single person out for it, just that person, then you're a transmisogynist and how dare you accuse them of anything, because women are the Good Gender and are pure and can't be abusive or bigoted or rapists and men are the Evil Gender and every single man ever is a rapist

and it's like...idk how to express this because like trans women are pedojacketed and generalized by cis people constantly, but trans men are also treated horribly by cis people (fucking look at ANYTHING to do with Elliot Page), but transandrophobes will act like every trans man is evil and deserves anythhing that happens to them. and that trans women can do no wrong

and it's frustrating because like generalizing is horrible!!! no one group is all evil!!! and on the flipside, it's super important to call out actual bigotry in the community no matter who it comes from! if a trans man is being racist or otherwise bigoted, call them out!!! but don't have a double standard and accuse people of being a transmisogynist if they call out a racist transfem???

So, uh

Sam Neill passed away.

A lot of people know him as Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park, but Sam Neill has an incredible catalogue of film and television, stretching back to 1975 on the big screen, but he cut his teeth in university productions of Shakespearean dramas.

All this to say, Sam Neill never let himself get pigeonholed as an actor. He was an incredibly versatile actor with a plethora of roles and genres to his name.

And that's not even touching upon his interests outside of acting. He was a passionate vintner (of the Two Paddocks winery) and an outspoken environmentalist who frequently spoke out against political policy that negatively affected indigenous peoples in Australia and New Zealand.

Jurassic Park is an incredible film, and I know many people have fond memories of the original trilogy.

But Sam Neill was more than just Dr. Grant. And I think that should be remembered too.
