This thought reaches #deeep down into #mysoul and #ringstrue like a perfectly crafted bell. It occurred to me that when people believe that #someoneorsomething is meting out justice and fairness in some way by some (albeit #mysterious ) design, they are much less likely to worry about what is wrong in the world. If you believe that there is a god of some kind or some kind of force in the universe that is #inherentlygood and rewards goodness and punishes evil, whether in this life or the next, then the atrocities that we commit are much less horrifying. The #ills of the world are not so distressing if you “know” that #somethingsomewhere has made note of it and will, in its own time, exact #justice upon the perpetrators. But here’s the thing.. what if there isn’t anything punishing the wicked? What if there’s #justus and no one or no thing is out there keeping track? #whatif we only have ourselves to make this world better? How would that change you? #seriouslytho I’m not just #blowingsmoke up your asses. If you can’t #takeastepback and work to #understand the lives of the people not just in your immediate #circle but also those you might never know otherwise, then you are only contributing to the #ignorance and evil of the world. Your #brains are wired to conflate your sense of self and make you the #centeroftheuniverse so you have to #openyoureyes and see the world through the #lenses of others in order to counteract this. Imagine how much better the world could be if more people recognized the same humanity in others and understood the effect they have on those around them. I’m at a point where I’m sitting back and really appreciating other cultures. It sounds strange to put it that way, it’s not like I used to have anything against any other #cultures but right now I’m #takingthetime to #observe how similar we all really are and how we all have the same #wants and #needs . I’ve seen a lot of talk about #population and how there is supposedly too many people in the world. This #overpopulation #fearmongering is complete #bullshit though. The comfortable and the well off know full well that as long as they direct anger at those who have so little and proclaim that the issue is too many children being born, the masses will just go along with it. Never mind that the “first” world has a tiny proportion of the total population but uses most of the world’s #resources 🤔 it is just another form of #poorpeople shaming. Another way to avoid the #truths that the #richest consume uncontrollably and unsustainably, living in comfort while the rest of the world worries about thirst and #famine and shelter. Having a positive attitude in life can help you get through tough times. Being willing to fight for what you want and not give up can help you achieve your goals. This doesn’t mean that people who are struggling are failing in some way. This doesn’t mean that someone who is failing or hurting or sick or poor deserves it in some fucked up way because they weren’t “attracting enough positive vibes” into their lives. Stop blaming victims for circumstances they have no control over. Yes, people can make bad decisions and exacerbate their problems, but if society never taught you what is right, then how would you know any better? It's about apathy towards your fellow human beings. Most of what is considered evil in the world seems to me to boil down to somebody treating other human beings as if they are unworthy of being treated equitably. The most obvious and glaring example is in slavery where someone is literally treating another human being as an object and not as a person, but if you look at most, if not all, issues (immigration, religious conflicts, economic inequality, etc.) they stem from human beings feeling that other human beings don't deserve to be themselves or to be treated equally or to just exist as they are purely because they are different in some way. We have dehumanized each other in order to make it okay to treat each other horribly. Immigration made me have this thought. A lot of people have this idea that immigrants are fundamentally different from themselves. People wanting to move to another country shouldn't be treated like pariahs, and yet conservatives are so utterly convinced that these "others" are somehow lesser human beings that they go to great lengths to block them from entering the country or moving around within it, etc. It also on a micro scale relates to how we treat individuals. You are you, be you, people shouldn't judge and oppress you if you happen to not fit into a very narrow mold. I don’t really get how this is in any way controversial. Well that’s not entirely true; over a century of propaganda and brainwashing are why. But what does baffle me is how in a country that proudly proclaims to be a “Christian” nation so many tens of millions of people completely ignore how Christ was an immigrant/poor/outcast loving socialist hippie. It’s craziness. Our society should be restructured in a way that serves the needs of the “least” of us. Not because they are in any way lesser than others but because it is the right thing to do. We should raise the most humble, the most charitable, and the most wise among us to prominence, not the wealthiest. And it is absolutely NOT in any way a bad thing to structure our government to reflect those values and provide the necessities for the masses. The Right has been demonizing the institution of government for forty years plus specifically so that you’d balk at the idea of using the unlimited spending power it has to actually help people who need help. Sometimes people just need advice. That’s cool. Sometimes people need guidance in life. There’s nothing wrong with that. But here’s the thing. People spend billions, with a B, billions to have other people tell them that they’d be “successful” if they’d just stop getting in their own way and start being positive and making changes for themselves. While there is nothing wrong with making positive changes(I encourage them!), the problem is that the systems that we live under don’t give a shit how positive you are or how much you’ve changed for the better. Exploitation and oppression are the name of the game. As long as you don’t see the big picture they’ll continue to exploit you for their own gain. This term is incredibly important when it comes to understanding money and how it operates in the world we live in. As a crash course it means the difference between whether or not a country has control over the money it uses. This is vital to understand because countries that control their money do not have to ever worry about “running out” of it, while countries who do not do have to worry. Made this a couple days ago thinking about how much of a headwind there is against progress. Presumably this is the situation in every age, so basically every notable step of progress ever made has been made like a person walking through a storm being pushed back by the wind and buffeted by the bullshit debris caused by those who just don’t get it or are actively fighting against progress. It is a largely thankless task that takes Herculean levels of perseverance and confidence to be able to maintain the pushing and prodding it takes to get society to get off its ass and become better.
