We can hope. Hungarian fans are trying, we have those "Save Romeo" groups on Facebook and weeks ago there was a little demonstration thing on Instagram. The problem is that Hungary is a little country and there are suprisingly few Opi fans mostly the older generations go to theatre. The director and the management will notice that things went wrong sooner or later when they go bankrupt... Okay, it’s a little bit extreme thought but the money of the Operettszínház mostly came from the successful musicals and those are taken down.
Actually, one of the most promising young actors (Veréb Tomi) quit, because all the roles he loved to play was taken down. He was absolutely amazing, I saw him in the Hunchback of the Notre Dame this summer, he played Quasimodo. He played in ResJ, Mozart!, Miss Saigon etc.
I like the new musicals, Hamilton and Heather etc but I think the europian classics are the best. Sadly you are right, no one knows them but they deserve more recognition.
Uhg, I have so much to say about the nationalism in the arts but my English is nearly not good enough. I will try though. So I think in Hungary there is this toxic nationalism. The goverment (who funds the arts) is trying to base on the pride of the people in every possible way. It’s hard to explain but this is the base of their campaign or propaganda or how-you-would-like-to-call-it. Okay, I sound like a total idiot but the political situation in Hungary is not the best and it’s hard to explain for foreigners. The goverment funds the the culture which strengthens the national consciousness and represses the other. For example some theatres has to close soon because they don’t get support from them. They will support the Operettszínház but in the long run it won’t be enough if the new director continues like that. The “old” fans say that before Kero the Opi was nearly empty... :/
no one’s talking about the Italian version, but it’s super great. Italian Roméo is Pontmercy, Italian Benvolio is a huge cutie, Italian Mercutio is amazing and The Most Bi and Italian Tybalt is my second favourite Tybalt after Kylo Ren Hungarian Tybalt.
“Extended” le bal scene. Same scene, different point of view.
- And why do you love these Hungarians so much? - Hmmmm. No idea
Rómeó: So we're married now....
Júlia: You just killed my favorite cousin! I don't want to have sex with you!
Rómeó: *takes off shirt*
Júlia: ....Well, I guess.
Keep calm and annoy your worst enemy because, well, why not…
iconic résj things
Benvolio mockingly mouthing Júlia’s “egy nap”
Tybalt’s “Belem Égett” toy soldier walk. You know the one.
“CAPULET-TAK PARTY-BAN”
Pretty much anything Mercutio does in this musical ever
That one picture with Mercutio and Rómeó post-Párbaj looking like they’re stoned
“Love is a beautiful rainbow that carries on its veil a thousand colors colors / Like a flag!” -This totally canon line by Rómeó from Mindenség szerelem vak
Lady Capulet chugging down her wine goblet like a vodka aunt
Tybalt spazzing out in an epileptic fit just before Ez a kéz utolér
Tybalt’s slow-mo parting of RésJ’s outstretched hands
The Nurse bopping her head to the Le bal beat as Júlia gazes longingly at Rómeó
That random twirling dancer in Lehetsz Király
The Lehetsz Király rap
Pretty much EVERYTHING about Lehetsz Király
Rómeó’s gentle mocking of Júlia in Erkély duett
Incest. Incest everywhere
The ladies Capulet and Montague facing each other on the high beam during Gyülölet
Paris checking Tybalt out during Le bal
Paris being extra during his proposal scene
Paris‘ falsetto high note during La folie
Just Paris, man
The Nurse showing Rómeó her locket picture of Júlia and freakin’ Rómeó turning it upside down
Lady Montague’s savage line about Lady Capulet’s infidelities in Lehetetlen
Tybalt’s ultra-symbolic Júlia doll or whatever the hell that is
“The gardens and parks are so rich”—> Verona, a Gothic post-apocalyptic wasteland with one fountain maybe
Street Style from Paris Fashion Week, Spring 2019
The worst thing ever

I finally tracked the NDP audio I’ve had since December, whoo! Casually, the day I went to see the show, it was Hiba’s birthday. Richard asked everyone to sing happy birthday to her, and then she sang Le temps des cathédrales with him and the audience. It was lovely!
after long time, next of mine fairy-tale illustrastions- here´s Měsíčník from my favorite czech fairy-tale :) (he´s king of the Moon but he went down to marry young princess :3 )
