americans generally have difficulty empathizing with people from other countries but frankly many of you struggle to even recognize that canada IS a foreign country, not just an extension of the united states. canadians aren't real to you and canada doesn't matter to you. you don't care to know how you actively affect us; you only care about how our suffering inconveniences you. that's why your government gets away with repeatedly threatening to invade and annex my country, openly interfering in canadian politics, policy, and health systems, and fostering far-right separatist movements, and you do and say nothing about it.

do you even know your government is — still — threatening to "make canada the 51st state"? do you know about the gordie howe bridge? do you know about the far-right alberta separatist movement being pushed by the united states, including senior government officials, in order to destabilize the country and increase the existing US monopoly on our oil industry? do you care? or do you only care about what might be going on in canada when you're personally inconvenienced by the smoke from northern ontario and manitoba burning and burning and burning
