āPearl? Where are you?ā It wasnāt rare that Pearl went wandering off without notifying Rose, but for Garnet to tell her sheād gone all the way back to the fountainā¦ That had to have been a bit much. Enough so that a worried Rose Quartz had gone over there too, in order to find her and make sure everything was okay.
Though the last thing Rose expected was to round the corner, Pearl apparently having heard her, half-turned and looking behind her in surprise. Before she could even voice her relief, Pearl had dropped down to a knee, bowing before in a way she had managed not to do for a long time, actually.
That just made Rose all the more concerned for her comradeās behavior today.
āThere you are, Pearl. Come on now, get up; you know how I feel about you bowing down to me like thatā¦ā She walked over gently grabbing onto Pearlās arm and helping her up.Ā āIs everything alright? Garnet told me you went out here by yourself, soā¦ I must admit, I got worried.

Rose sighed, catching onto this quickly. While perhaps Rose wasnāt too familiar with the human terms of mental illness and side effects of a traumatic event (or events, really), it wouldnāt take her to be a genius for her to understand that the things that had happened retained a horrible after-effect, especially on Pearl. Though Rose was long used to horrible things and wasnāt as horribly affected, she did still have nightmares of the pastā¦ Something rather light compared to Pearlās situation, but something close that Rose could use to get a slight understanding of the gravity of the situation.
āPearl, you donāt have to lieā¦ā Slowly, gently, Rose stepped closer, arms held out and lightly wrapping Pearl into a warm, comforting hug. One that smelt of the salty beach air and some undertone of rosesā¦ Some other scent, undescribable in nature, that was a scent Rose picked up over her long lifetime and rarely, if ever, reforming.Ā āI know itās happening again. I know itās been happening and you donāt have to hide yourself like this. It was a horrible timeā¦but weāre all here for you. Youāre no less my sweet Pearl for being like this, alright?ā
Rose kept Pearl in that light embrace for awhile longer, hoping itād help ground and soothe her from the troubles plaguing her. The only time Rose moved was to press a kiss to Pearlās gem, a way of showing Roseās care and love for a gem, for any reason that they might need such a sweet and soothing gestureā¦ But unlike the peck-kisses most other gems got, Pearl got the lingering gem-kisses, to remind her that she was so loved by the rebellion leader; precious in every way, including her faultsā¦
After all, all of those things made her Pearl and Rose loved that. All of it.
Pearl tensed at first, her shoulders stiff and cold in Roseās embrace. A reaction fitting for an enemy strike, not a gentle hug from her beloved Rose Quartz. She breathed in slowly, hesitantly, finally exhaling some of the stress that was gathered in her small body before it could start to crumble from the strain of it. Shaky hands made their way around Roseās waist and returned the embrace, Pearl frowning and hiding her face against the other Gemās chest when she did.
āIām sorry,ā she mumbled again, shamefully. She knew Rose was not angry, knew that she need not apologize, but saying it was all that could ease the heavy tug of guilt inside of her chest. She hated when she acted this way, hated how it made Rose worry, hated how it disrupted things. It was illogical, ridiculous, pathetic...And yet she still found herself shivering unconsciously, her thin hands clinging to the soft fabric of Roseās dress as though it was a lifeline. Pearl swallowed hard and glanced around anxiously, and though there was nobody else besides the two of them to be seen, she looked as though she expected a sword in her back at any moment.
ā...Do we have to stay here?ā she asked, nervousness bringing her voice up an octave. Her hand found Roseās, holding it tightly. She couldnāt bring herself to look up at her, half out of embarrassment for her own behavior, and half out of paranoia that lowering her guard would have dire consequences.Ā āIt doesnāt seem--Iām not feeling very...ā

Itās fun to say āI have a pet dinosaur.āĀ Technically itās not a lie, what with birds being avian dinosaurs and all, but I thought itād be fun to draw a āproperā dinosaur with cockatiel coloration :3

Pearlās words rolled off her like nothing, any hints to leave her alone ignored. Garnet was pretty sure that was the opposite of what she should do, anyway. She leaned a shoulder against the other side of the stall, hearing the quiet sobs that came from inside and feeling her lips tug into a small frown.
āBut I am here.ā She stated, simply, almost gently. She didnāt make any move to try and force Pearl out of the stall before she was ready, but instead offered the support silently from the other side. āTell me what happened.ā Amethyst had started to tell her the detailsā¦ but Garnet had opted to hear it from from the source, instead, leaving the third friend of their trio behind to be here now. āIām not leaving until youāve calmed down.ā
Pearl was silent for several long moments after, frowning as she tried in vain to make herself look more presentable. She put her arms down in exasperation, irritated with herself. She didnāt want Garnet to see her like this...But she knew her friend, and she knew she would stand outside of that stall until school was over unless she allowed her to help.
Amethyst was getting an earful for this later.
Finally a soft click signaled the door being unlocked, in place of an actual response to Garnetās questions. Pearl stepped back so it could be opened, crossing her arms tightly over her chest and averting her eyes to the ground. She raised an arm self consciously when she saw Garnet from the corner of her eyes, half hiding her face.
ā...ām sorry,ā she sniffled.
