Supergirl is a perfectly serviceable superhero film. It actually veers away from the more trite formulas that some superhero movies follow. Not every superhero film needs to be a power fantasy with world ending stakes. It’s actually extremely refreshing to watch a superhero be an unabashed mess. No posturing because she’s a woman, nothing infallible, and never once does she falter on her own definition of morality simply because she’s connected to Clark. She doesn’t have to. She’s her own person. She has autonomy. She’s allowed to be abrasive in a way that isn’t charming. That’s not a detriment to a character. It’s a feature. She’s mean and messy and traumatized and she wants her fucking dog back. And she kills human traffickers. Ten out of ten for my own personal enjoyment. Fuck the incels who hate this movie because Supergirl doesn’t get their dick hard.
