in response to your tags, the 'hyperactivity' associated with adhd is a bit misleading; often, neurotypical observers will insist people with adhd are 'hyperactive' when they could easily mean something more like 'they have multiple interests which consume many hours of their time at a stretch' or 'they change what activity they are doing in a way i don't like/very often' or even 'they show too much enthusiasm about their hobbies'

now, about caffeine: stimulants work differently in adhd brains. Some doctors believe it is because people w/ adhd do not produce or retain high enough levels of dopamine. Thus, the theory is that stimulants bring an adhd brain closer to 'standard' arousal levels (arousal, here, meaning 'excitement' in general and not sexual arousal).

Important to note: for most people, caffeine literally makes them unable to be tired. Iirc, it blocks melatonin receptors.

If you drink caffeine and get more tired, or if it has literally 'no' effect, your brain is goofing up somewhere. It should literally actually make you more alert and awake. People aren't exaggerating or making up the symptoms commonly associated with caffeine- neurotypical people get caffeine jitters, become more alert, and literally cannot feel tired with large enough doses of caffeine.

(and before anyone asks: i type with the bolding because it is a friendlier way to type long posts for people with adhd- at the very least, people with my type of adhd)

you're an individual, so i'm not sure what advise will work for you but

1: if you relate to ADHD posts, you ain't gotta get a diagnosis to use the tips and tricks ppl have posted to help with ADHD

2: if you do have access to a health professional and feel comfortable asking for a new prescription, you don't need a diagnosis to be prescribed non-stimulant ADHD medicine, like strattera or other dopamine-reuptake-inhibitors. hell, if your doctor is cool enough they might get you stimulants without a diagnosis (though there is currently a shortage in the USA, so ymmv)

3. my biggest catch-all tip for ppl w/ ADHD is this: Do it the way you want/need to do it. whatever 'it' is.

If you need to take the cabinet/pantry doors off so you can see what's in there, do it. If you need to store your vegetables in the front of the fridge and not the vegetable drawer so you actually see them before they wilt, do it. If you need music playing to focus on homework, do it. If you need to keep snacks at your desk so you actually remember to eat, do it. If you need to set 16 reminders per day to get your work done, do it. Do it scared, do it wrong. You don't even have to do your best. 30% is better than 0%.

And if you can't do it, that's okay too. There's no wrong way to live your life. Just, you know, live it.

anyway i think pride month is a good time to think about how lesbophobia and biphobia faced by women are not actually different types of bigotry in any concrete way, it's all just slightly different manifestations of the overlap between misogyny and homophobia that causes people to treat women like they are not a reliable authority on their own sexuality. its not that one type of queer sexuality is meaningfully more accepted its that asserting your own sexual identity as a woman is pretty much just seen as a threat to general society and will receive whatever pushback is easiest to reach for. unfortunately sometimes as a reaction to this we have a tendency to place the blame on each other for this treatment instead of realizing we're all crabs in the same bucket.

there are essentially zero experiences that a bi woman has had that a lesbian hasn't also, and vice versa. we don't gain anything from acting like we're two distinct groups with any real power imbalance or competing interests between them.

It's actually kind of cute and sweet when you can clearly tell that an amateur writer posting their stuff online doesn't really know how something would actually work in real life. Like ok you're probably a kid and it's understandable that you don't really have as much life experience as you've got confidence in the story you want to tell.

You'll get a 15-year-old first person narrating protagonist going like "I've got five older brothers and I'm the only girl so they're really protective of me :)"

like ok I'm guessing you're an only child, and that's sweet that you think that's how it works, but in a set-up like that, being the youngest of six and the only girl, the closest thing that they'd get to being attentive and protective of you would be giving you multiple sessions of intensive experimental exposure therapy to determine once and for all if a human being can develop an immunity to getting waterboarded.

My mom was the youngest of like 7 brothers and she’s got the craziest stories of how they straight up be doing war crimes on each other. She has this story about how they would rotate hiding in the bushes near the front door and full on body slamming her or like chasing her across the yard or some shit when she’d get home from whatever activity in the dark. Or they’d go on walks and then at the end of the street they’d be like oh I smell cheese and take off and totally ditch her (I guess this was a thing that indicated big foot was near and also my mom apparently grew up bc of this deathly afraid of Bigfoot???? ….oh toe cheese ugh gross) Or they’d hide in her curtains and then jump out at her after she tuned out the lights or once one of them hid under her bed and pulled the sheets tight. Tho that one I think after she got let go didn’t get repeated bc both of them ended up in the ER….. Like yeah they taught her to fight! she was fighting for her life out there!!!

My dad is the oldest of five. The first three are boys, last two are girls. The youngest had a large enough age difference that the one who was really put through it was the second-youngest.

My dad (and the uncle in the area, Brother 3) still fondly recall and tell story of the time they set up a very elaborate scene, using ketchup and a kitchen knife, that Brother 2 had been killed by Brother 3.

My dad also fondly recalls “stucco forehead”. The occasion where he babysat his siblings and as punishment for things would have them lean their forehead with their Full Weight against the stucco walls (very rough texture, Ouch). They would be left with imprints on their forehead for a while.

I will say I’m the third of four and tbh I think all of us put each other equally through Horrors. My older sister bit me on the head when I was a baby. I dropped a rake on my older brother’s head from several feet up. And karate-chopped the bridge of his nose. My older brother would some times dangle younger brother upside down from his ankles. Such is siblinghood.
