One of my last post on this blog before I got distracted by the rest of the world was about wanting an update on the Whiskey situation. I think Ngozi really hit a home run with this one.

I know a lot of people were probably hoping for some story where a Bitty helped him come out or he came to terms with everything with the team, but I feel like this story went somewhere with a lot of importance. Not everybody processes things in the same way or in ways that others would wish them to, but that’s OK. Coming out and coming to terms with who you are looks very different for a lot of people, and it’s harmful to try to force one idea of what that should be on people. My favorite exchange from this is in the screencap I took, which is important for a number of reasons.

Of course no one expects Eric to out anybody, but there are issues in the community where people I feel like it’s their right to be pushy with the sexuality of others. I’ve experienced this myself. Instead is being awkward with it, Eric changed nothing about his treatment to whiskey while staying open to talking about it. I know I shouldn’t apply to fish for swimming, but let me be emotional ._.

Bitty thought if the Falconers didn't eat all of his pie that meant they hated him. Bitty isn't a reliable source. We have no clue how Whiskey feels about Bitty. I say let's wait and see how the two actually interact before assuming anything.

you know what, you’re right. Our boy’s a little… emotional to say the least. My assumption was based on what Bitty said and the facial expressions on Whiskey’s face. His face in the last panel he was in looked more confused than angry imo.

Sorry to be late to the party, but I think I want to officially call Whiskey, dark Bitty.

I really feel for this kid, I do, but we can all kind of see what’s going on with him. Earlier in the chapter, Bitty says that Whiskey hates him, but it’s probably more like he resents him for being out (and maybe a little for being slightly fem).
