Funny, Asian names don’t seem to be difficult for 16 year old Asians to pronounce. Oh wait, they’re saying they only care about being accessible to white 16 year olds. Gotcha.

I mean on the one hand you can google search for context and find out that this was part of a specific thread where the British Museum was talking about using too many names for a single object; “ E.g. the Buddhist bodhisattva of mercy is known as Avalokitesvara in India, Guanyin in China, Kwanum in Korea and Kannon in Japan.” It’s not that any of these names are too complex or foreign, but rather that they try to keep from using too many different names for any one object. This was specifically in a thread about how artifacts were labelled, and in order to make things clearer to understand for the general public, their policy is to label it clearly and *succinctly*, which is why they’re careful about using too many Asian names for the same idea or artifact, as that can be confusing to someone trying to learn; more information is given about the complexities of the topics they cover in publicly available “audio guides, tours, lectures, research projects, school sessions, etc.” – everywhere EXCEPT for the label of the object which, again, has to be concise and accurate and clear.
