I know it's s common as dirt sentiment, but I had a few times this week I wished I could call or text someone who's gone. I was caramelizing onions at work on Monday and wanted to text my friend who loved talking about cooking, foodie-to-chef, send him a photo of the pale beige onions someone else at work "caramelized" and the rich burnt sienna onions I was scooping into a container. We'd agree sagely that good things are worth the time. And it'd be nice to call my grandma and tell her we finally got a cat again; she asked if I'd "found a new kitty yet" just about every other time we spoke after Sofia died.
