These types of lists are usually trying to sell you something, whether it's a course to "teach you the right way" or an ideology.

People who are obsessed with controlling your practice are often involved in the occult/spiritual community because they're more interested in having a cultish following rather than real spiritual development.

That's not to say there aren't any rules in witchcraft/paganism, but these rules aren't universal. Each practice comes with a personal set of rules, often unique to the practitioner.

Don't let others define how your practice should look like. Experiment and find what does and doesn't work for you!

However, if you aren't working to decolonize your practice and are actively disrespecting a practice, you are doing something wrong.

Restorative Roasted Vegetable (and optional chicken) Soup

I found this recipe earlier today, already called Restorative Roasted Vegetable Soup and inspiration hit to look up the correspondences and share it with all of you (recipe sourced from the book Bite Me by Julie Albert and Lisa Gnat).

Ingredients (makes 8 servings):

2 large carrots, peeled and cut into 2.5cm cubes

1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut into 2.5cm cubes

2 zucchinis, cut into 2.5cm cubes

1 large capsicum, deseeded and cut into 2.5cm cubes

1 red onion, cut into 2.5cm cubes

75g small mushrooms, peeled and quartered

3 tablespoons olive oil

½ teaspoon sea salt

3 fresh rosemary sprigs

225ml water

1.9L chicken stock (or vegetable stock, if making it vegetarian/vegan)

3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1cm cubes (optional)

225g cooked farfalle pasta

Method:

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas Mark 5. Line a baking sheet with foil and coat with non-stick cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine the carrots, sweet potato, zucchini, capsicum, onion and mushrooms. Add oil and salt (I personally use Celtic Sea Salt), tossing well to coat. Spread the veges out on the baking sheet and nestle the rosemary sprigs among the vegetables. Bake for 40-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, discard the rosemary sprigs at the end.

In a large saucepan, combine the water, stock and chicken (if using). Bring to the boil over a high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the roasted vegetables and simmer for a further 10 minutes. Add the cooked pasta and heat through.

Serve in your favourite bowl!

Make on a day where you don’t have to expend as many spoons as usual, so you can focus your energy on the restorative properties of the soup.

Pre-package the soup into portions and refrigerate/freeze (depending on how quickly you think you’ll eat them).

When reheating, focus your intentions on the soup restoring you and your energy (this goes for everyone, not just spoonies).

Be Careful in Witchy Spaces Online 🕯️

Social media is full of witches, tarot readers, and magical advice. That can be amazing for building community, but it can also be dangerous if you are not careful.

🚩 Red Flags to Watch Out For

Fear tactics: Posts that make you feel cursed, doomed, or like you need to buy their service to “fix” your energy.

Gatekeeping: Anyone saying you are “not a real witch” unless you practice their exact way.

Pay-to-play spirituality: If someone’s entire pitch is that you can only be powerful if you buy their course, candle, or spell.

Over-promising: “This spell will make someone love you instantly” or “This ritual guarantees wealth.” Witchcraft does not work like that.

⚠️ Subtle Ableism in Witchy Spaces

Some posts look harmless but carry ableist ideas:

Saying you “can’t be a witch if you take medication” or that being neurodivergent makes you “less spiritual.”

Calling people “low vibration” if they are depressed, anxious, or struggling with trauma.

Shaming witches who cannot afford elaborate tools or rare herbs.

Real witchcraft is accessible. You do not need perfect health, constant positivity, or a big budget to practice.

🕳️ Hidden Dog Whistles

Be wary of creators who:

Talk about “purity of bloodlines” or “chosen people.” That is coded language that often ties back to racist or nationalist beliefs.

Push conspiracy theories under the disguise of “esoteric wisdom.”

Use terms like “starseed” or “indigo child” in ways that exclude others or feed into superiority complexes.

🕸️ How Online Witchcraft Spaces Can Slide Into Cult Territory

Witchy communities can turn harmful when:

One leader demands absolute loyalty and punishes questioning.

Information is tightly controlled or only given if you pay more.

Members are isolated from outside opinions or told everyone else is “asleep” or “less evolved.”

The group encourages secrecy, shame, or dependency on the leader.

When witchcraft stops empowering you and starts controlling you, it is no longer community. It is manipulation.

Let’s Talk More About Spiritual Psychosis

My last post on spiritual psychosis sparked a lot of discussion, and I want to go deeper because this is a serious and complicated subject.

First: spiritual psychosis does not come only from “not grounding enough.” That’s a simplification, and it’s not fair to people who have experienced it.

🌑 What Is Spiritual Psychosis?

Spiritual psychosis happens when spiritual practice, stress, trauma, or even certain substances overwhelm the mind to the point where it becomes hard to tell what is symbolic and what is literal, what is spiritual and what is delusion.

It can look like:

Feeling convinced you are chosen, special, or destined for a “higher role.”

Seeing every coincidence as a personal sign or divine command.

Becoming paranoid about curses, energies, or unseen enemies.

Losing touch with reality and relationships because everything is filtered through “the spiritual.”

🌿 Contributing Factors

It’s not about being “bad at grounding.” There are many layers:

Unstable practices: Overuse of channeling, constant divination, or obsession with “messages” without balance can also feed instability.

Substances: Some psychedelics or even too much cannabis can push someone into a psychotic episode.

Mental health conditions: Psychosis can be triggered by bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, trauma, or other psychiatric conditions.

Stress + isolation: Heavy life stress, sleep deprivation, and withdrawing from supportive people can make psychosis more likely.

⚖️ Spiritual Crisis vs. Psychosis

Some people experience what’s called a “spiritual emergency” or awakening crisis. That can involve visions, synchronicities, or ego-death moments. Not everyone in a spiritual crisis is in psychosis, but the line can blur, and it’s important to treat both with care.

🕯️ Why This Conversation Matters

Witchcraft and spiritual spaces should be safe. When people dismiss psychosis as “you just need to ground more,” it creates shame and silences real struggles. Compassion, nuance, and awareness are what keep our community healthy.

If you or someone you love is dealing with this, it’s okay to seek medical help and spiritual support. You can hold both.

Some little things I've learned over a decade of witchcraft:

If you are feel called to work but are tired/drained, sit outside. Take in all the energies around you. Nature can help charge you

Every witch does a little bit of a bunch of types of magic but sticks mainly to one or two in general. You usually won't be eclectic forever. You'll find what magics work best with you.

Never be lazy or cut corners with spirits. Always be respectful and always tell them to leave when you're done

When you see a plant or ingredient with a long list of properties, there are different things at play. Season of collection, the part of the plant, the health of the plant, etc all play a role in impacting which properties it will carry.

Don't call on spirits unless you have confidence and control

Be careful with sea/water magic. Get into it gently and slowly until you have the energy figured out because it can get out of hand quickly.

Adding a little pinch of magic into your breakfast can make a major difference in your day.

Your personal emotions/feelings over something will impact a work

Planting some plants is good, not only to have a garden, but the dirt helps cleanse you too. Get all dirty and muddy. It's good for ya

Not all trees are nice

The more you listen to your intuition, the easier it will be to tell it apart from your anxieties and worries

Incense is very easy to make which is why it's usually cheap to buy. But you can find a million tutorials online on how to make your own personal incense which is great if you want a spell to take effect over a while but also want to infuse the fire energy in it.

The more you work with something the better feel you get for it. Cinnamon goes in almost everything i cook and most of my spells because me and cinnamon just get right along
