Thinking about that bit in the extra chapters where Jin Guangyao posits that Jiang Cheng is holding onto the flute because if Wei Wuxian ever resurrects he is going to go straight for reclaiming his iconic weapon because 1) it's unbearably and grief inducingly sweet, and 2) literally not true.

Wei Wuxian returned to this mortal plane, picked up the first stick he saw, punched a hole in it, shrugged and said "Good enough". He then proceeded to spend the whole series paying the most off-key dogshit flute music imaginable on the cultivator world equivalent of a Party City kazoo.

i love the way wei wuxian and jin guangyao have no relationship at all. like you've got your hero and you've got your villain and they're highly complementary characters who wind up being instrumental in each other's downfalls, and also they met like, what, four times? with zero one on one conversations? jin guangyao barely even bothers to manipulate wei wuxian during the temple showdown and wei wuxian watches jin guangyao die with all the emotion of someone who just noticed a dent in their car and is wondering how it got there

Lan Wangji doesn't know what face blindness is he just knows it's rude not to recognize people, so when someone is bold or stupid enough to make a comment about how different Wei Wuxian looks now Wangji just glares at them and says "It is not difficult if one makes the effort".

No one else knows what the fuck he means by that.

the juniors (meaning Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling) get into an argument about it because Huanguan-jun says Wei Wuxian doesn't look much different but Sect Leader Jiang says his new face 'freaks him out'.

They try to ask Wei Wuxian (who also doesn't realize he has face blindness) but he just shrugs and says he doesn't remember what he looked like. The Juniors riot.

i can't fully relate to any takes that treat wei wuxian raising wen ning as a fierce corpse as straightforwardly violating/reprehensible act, bc like. yes sure there are lines that should not be crossed and these two are full speed drifting across that shit in circles, and the fact that consequences are still real but their long-term planning is for a few hours ahead tops, and the inescapable power imbalance this event creates between them, and the obvious danger of not only letting someone have full control over you but blindly trusting them to handle it, and obligatory murder is bad don't do it at home kids. but it's not as if wei wuxian only used wen ning's body as a convenient tool to vent his frustration without sparing a thought for wen ning's own feelings on the matter?? as if it's not explicitly framed as an ultimate power fantasy fueled by wen ning's OWN anger and desire for revenge that wei wuxian is giving him a chance to fulfill?? it's always “remember that wen ning is powered by resentment and not a pure uwu sunshine boy” to argue that he's secretly a bitch or something, but when his spirit is taking revenge on the fucking. labor camp officers who beat him to death in a dedicated torture shack suddenly it's “wrong” and “bad” and “disrespectful” and “how could wei wuxian do this to him“? smh. wei wuxian crawled out of a mass grave as a vengeful ghost himself!! HE GETS IT! HE GETS IT!!! they're each other's worst enablers because there are things they understand about each other better than anyone else!
