I knew that it meant “happy,” like when I’m reading about the Apollo space missions, or when I am still awake at three or four in the morning and I can walk up and down the street and pretend that I am the only person in the world.” Chapter 3 In this example Christopher is stating that he could imagine being alone at 3 or 4 in the morning and he won’t be bothered that he is alone and it doesn’t make a difference to him that there are no people around. This displays the theme of isolation in the book.
“It was nice in the police cell.” Chapter 23, when Christopher got arrested for hitting the police officer he was put in a jail. A jail is commonly a dark isolated cold place and usually no one would want to stay their, but Christopher however found it a really calming and relaxing place.
“Sometimes when I want to be on my own I get into the airing cupboard in the bathroom and slide in beside the boiler and pull the door behind me and sit there and think for hours and it makes me feel very calm.” Chapter 83, as we can notice Christopher likes to be isolated and sits alone in small places which in his opinion makes him feel calm. This explains Christopher’s personailty more and that he doesn't like crowded big places instead he prefers small places which for other people ins’t preferred. This can help us understand Christopher’ s action and Christopher himself more.
Christopher prefers to stay alone although he knows that due to his sickness he needs people’s help and he needs care because he can't take care of himself and he can't stay alone and be isolated all the time. Due to that fact he dos not feel good communicating with other people and talking to strangers, since he doesn't generally comprehend them. So with the end goal Christopher should overcome both misfortunes, separation and Asperger's Syndrome, he needs to cooporate with individuals and be free.
As we can tell from the story Christopher is a really independent and private person, he doesn't like to socialize with human beings especially strangers and he hates being touched by any human being to the point that he refuses hugging his own father. This is also a characteristic of a person with the condition Asperger’s Syndrome so its totally normal that he acts this way. Christopher however doesn't think of animals the same way he thinks of humans. He is okay with touching animals and interacting with them, because he believes that animals aren't hard to understand and confusing as humans. Animals have straightforward feelings that are anything but difficult to make sense of, concerning people it is truly difficult to manage their unpredictable feelings. So, Christopher can be okay with touching animals but not people.
