This is the greatest taco seasoning ever!!!!!! It's so easy, tastes great even if you leave out the salt and is pretty much fool proof. It is a staple for the high of my yo-yo dieting; even putting it on ground chicken breast (blah) makes it bearable!

Well, it's that time of the semester again. Midterm season. I don't know how I survive every semester when I have multiple things due in a short period of time that have significant weights to them. Usually I'll have two midterms, a presentation, a weekly quiz, and an assignment due all in one week, plus work 4-5 days out of the week! Although I'm not taking as many courses this semester, I still feel the pressure because I'm taking a finance class which is pretty difficult. I've spent all day doing practice question after practice question without getting many of them right. But when I do get them right it's like...
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's work load increases dramatically during midterm time. I guess I should take this time to wish all of my fellow university students good luck on their midterms, papers, and assignments.
So how do we do it and still come out the other end alive? For most students, it takes alot of caffine and very little sleep. For me, it takes a little bit more than just a lot of caffine and very little sleep. Like my fellow classmates, I have to run on very little sleep because there is always just so much that has to get done. However, I can not drink coffee because it makes me sleepy so sometimes I have to drink energy drinks (yes, I know the health risks, and no I don't drink them all the time). But one thing that I do like to do when I study is listen to classical or jazz music. I find that it calms me down if I feel stressed, it helps me concentrate for a longer period of time, and studies have shown that studying with classical music on in the background increases the chances of performing well on the test/exam. So to all my fellow students, if you're not the type that needs absolute silence while studying, try listening to a bit of classical or jazz music and see what it does for you!

Mashed Potatoes in Disguise
Since I'm on the "up" roll of yo-yo dieting (like I have been many times before) I'm always searching for healthy substitutes for my favourites (i.e. carbs). This week I decided to try mashed cauliflower because I've been hearing a lot of buzz about it recently.
I have to say that this was one of my successful food substitute trials. All I did was boil the cauliflower as you would potatoes, infused some olive oil with smashed cloves of garlic, and seasoned the cauliflower with this, sea salt and Mrs. Dash's Herb and Garlic no salt seasoning then topped it with some chopped chives.
The verdict? Awesome! I would say that mashed cauliflower is comparable to mashed potatoes. They hold the flavour the same way, and the texture is just a bit lighter which eliminates the heavy starchiness that mashed potatoes have. One thing I would do differently is I wouldn't boil them for as long as I did (a "duh" moment) because cauliflower is not starchy at all and is a more tender vegetable than a potato.
So if you're in search for a healthy substitute, definitely give this a try! It's super easy to make and it actually tastes good!

Attempt #1
Day 1. How did my swim go? Terrible, but it was a "good" attempt. Total number of lengths swam, 12. Total amount of time spent swimming: 10 minutes Pretty lame huh? I would have swam more, but my supervisor asked me to start my shift early. I know, I know, lame excuse, but hey, one of my other resolutions is to be more smart with money and after setting some financial goals, I realized it would be smart to pick up a few more hours.
12 lengths in 10 minutes, an average of 1.2 minutes per length (with breaks in between every 2 lengths, i.e. not completely continuous). I’ve definitely got some work to do though. A few years back when I used to swim twice a week I was able to swim 2 lengths in 1 minute, getting back down to this is going to be hard work, but I’m more motivated than ever. My stroke count is currently 22/23 per length and after the 12 lengths, I was starting to huff and puff. I instantly felt it in my shoulders and I was heavily breathing, not a good feeling knowing that I’ve only swam 12 lengths. All in all, this was one of those “better to have done something active than to have not done anything at all”. Second attempt will be tomorrow, and hopefully I won't feel like I look like the guy in the closest lane:

Happy New Years!!
Happy 2013!!! What more appropriate thing to blog about then what my "resolutions" are for the year. I guess I don't really see this as a resolution because I'm a yo-yo dieter, but one of my fitness goals for the year is to see how fast I can swim a certain distance.
The fitness/physical standards that lifeguards used to have did not have a timed swim. Until now. When I first swam the distance, I was somewhat fit and exercising regularly and was able to do it in 9:45. To keep my lifeguarding certification, I have to swim 400 metres (16 lengths in a 25 metre pool) in 10 minutes or less. So technically I can do it, but I wanna do better. What's my goal? Between 7-8minutes would be nice, but I'll be happy with any improvement from 9:45. I'll track my progress through this blog, just as a reminder to myself of what I've done and as a motivational tool to go swimming on the days that I really don't want to.
I'm really going to have to give my fitness and diet a 360 turnaround since school had been so crazy that I have not had a workout in about 3 months! Gah!!! I do this every time. I get fit and tell myself "man, that was hard to become consistent, so I'm not gonna let myself fall of the wagon this time", but without fail, it always happens. I've really taken a look at what is most important to me in life and have planned this new year for success, so let's get'er done!!!!

Social Media FTW.
Social Media has always been a topic I've been interested in and mostly have learned what it can do to a business (good and bad) but this holiday season I've seen what it can do that is way more than just posting a status update or a meme that my "followers" or my "friends" find amusing.
Being that it's the holiday season, naturally everyone would most likely be home for the holidays. This year, (and the last two years) I've had the pleasure of spending time with so many people that I have been close with, but don't normally get to see on a regular basis. All, thanks to Facebook. From just a simple invite through Facebook, a large group of my old co-workers and I got together for dinner, drinks and a hockey game. Friends from Calgary, Smithers, Edmonton, and Germany (just to name a few) were there with me, and as I realized how different and busy our lives were, I found it amazing that just one Facebook post brought us all together for the first time since we all worked together so many years before.
Although I've read how social media can affect different businesses, and the pros and cons it brings along with it, nothing beats experiencing one of the "good sides" of social media.

Smashbox's Smashing Primer
Make-up...what can I say, for this tom-boy turned girly girl, I've just began to explore the universe we call cosmetics. I started using some blush, just because I thought it looked good on other girls, but by the end of the day my cheeks were as bare as they were to start off with.
I know what you're thinking, don't you carry a make-up bag??? Sadly, no, it is pretty impossible for me to carry the makeup bag I have with me because mine is so big, and the make up I seem to buy is so expensive that buying the travelling versions would mean that I would have to sell my condo! Why not transfer them into smaller containers you say?? Well, the simple answer is this: I'm too lazy.
Anyways....these are the reasons why I turned to primer. Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer is the first one I've ever tried (one of my friend recommended it), and it is amazing!
My make-up stays put all day (which is usually about 12 hours for me) even when I start to sweat a bit. The thing I love most about this is that it helps blend the make-up on my face as the day goes on so it's perfect when I'm in a rush to get ready. It's also oil free so it's almost like it vanishes upon application, and makes taking off your makeup at the end of the day a breeze. I bought this for $36 USD at ULTA Beauty shop and I only ever need to use about a dime sized amount so I'm sure it will last me for a while.
I have never tried any other primer so I can't say how it compares, but since I've been happy with this one so far, I think I'm going to stick with it! Definitely a good investment for a first time primer user!

This is a sick drum remix by Jesse Manason. I'm in love with this album and have been listening to it non stop since it was released! Seriously, I have never liked every single track on an album until this one came out, so when my sister showed me this remix (she's dancing in this vid, by the way), my mind was blown. Literally. The drums just made this song so much better! Let's just say it's on replaaaayyyy

Blogger Newbie....Again
So...I originally started a blog using Google's platform (successfully posted twice, until school and life got crazy) but I learned a little more about tumblr in my social media class and decided to try it out.
The description on the right pretty much sums up what I would like to get out of writing a blog. As my very first post said (can be found here), I'm a business student, lifeguard, long time fitness enthusiast and yo-yo dieter, and tom-boy turned girly girl. Most of my posts will be about diet tips, my amazing business program, and beauty products that I've either loved or hated.
There you go, a second introduction to my first (technically second) blogging experience!
