Up until then, Merida didn’t realize how late it was. As they walked through the town, silence was their only companion. There were a few tall lanterns left outside, illuminating the main road. The houses were made or dark pine, and smoke was coming out of the chimney shacks. The moon was hidden behind leafless trees, and the wind blew around them, making the trees groan by the movement caused.
Merida tried to keep up with Jack, and made sure not to lose sight of him. When he entered through the window and told her to wait, Merida sighed.
"Not like Ah can do much. Won’t ye get caught?" she asked, but he was gone before he could hear her question.
Merida gazed around the small yard, peering her eyes through the darkness. It was a quaint place, looking comfy and snug. Maybe if Merida wasn’t a princess, she wouldn’t have mind living in one of these kinds of houses. Suddenly, Merida heard something approaching. Whipping out her weapon, Merida strung the weapon.
"Who goes there?" Merida whispered harshly. Nothing. Merida began to question whether she heard anything at all, when she felt something sniff her feet. Merida looked down and jumped, holding down a yelp.
A pair of mismatched eyes looked back, one blue one brown. It’s tail wagging, and tongue hanging out sloppily. Merida rolled her eyes and placed her bow back. She went on eye-level with the dog, and looked at it seriously.
"Ye really scared meh there, boy," she whispered crossly. The nameless husky just tilted it’s head at her. The corner of her lip tugged up. "Can ye believe it? Ah’ve faced a bear ten time bigger than ye, and only ye managed tae get meh off guard."
She began to rub his ears, which he responded to gratefully. “Whit are ye doing oot here? Don’t ye got a home tae go tae?”
She didn’t hear Jack come back out.
Jack quickly grabbed some shoes from the kid's closest and jumped right back out the window, landing gently on the ground.
He looked around for Merida and spotted her a few feet away from where he was. He tilted his head slightly as he walked towards her, noticing that she wasn't alone.
Once he got closer he bent down next to her and smiled. "Well, I guess this big came out to say hello to you."
