Solidarity Summer is well and truly ramping up. AS IT FUCKING SHOULD.
And another one! š¢
Barnes and Noble booksellers are working on forming a union as well!Ā
https://www.reddit.com/r/union/comments/rwczci/barnes_noble_workers_want_union/
Their flagship store and New York has unionized along with 3-4 other stores! This is happening! People are tired of being seen as dollar signs and being made to work just to get to work more, to survive instead of thrive. Keep it UP.Ā
Shut. It. All. Down.
BARBIE (2023) dir. Greta Gerwig +āletterboxd reviews by men
I knew the mediocre pissbabies would have a tantrum about this no matter what, but I was not prepared for how hilarious their mewling would be, and that it would significantly increase my enjoyment of the entire thing.
Phenomenal news. Just what the people ordered.

Fuck you, America.
Itās called the foot-in-the-door method. First, you propose something that is slightly outside of allowable norms: denying gay people wedding cakes on grounds ofĀ āreligious freedomā. Then, you slowly ramp up how extreme your demands are, coercing the other side to giving a tinyĀ bit of ground each time, until youāve shifted the entire fucking playing field. Conservatives are also very fond of the door-to-face method, which is demanding something completely outlandish that you know will be refused, and then asking for something less ridiculous by way of compromise, again resulting in a gradual shift in norms until views that were once considered moderate or reasonable become unthinkably liberal by destroying peopleās sense of standards. The combination of these methods is called theĀ āfoot-in-the-faceā method, which sums up where this whole thing is headed quite nicely.

If transgender people didn't exist and someone witnessed a man using the women's restroom, most people would think nothing of it. He probably just used it by accident. Violence against him would be considered nowhere near reasonable.
All of this fear of "men using the women's restroom" is just an excuse to use violence against transgender people and nothing more.
I laughed so fucking hard at this

Fun Fact, thats, more or less, something that wealthy people in China and Japan did, they were called āmusical floorboards.ā Designed to squeak when stood upon. A person could make noise all the way down a corridor.
The residents and servants knew which floorboards made a sound and avoided them. But a burglar, or assassin didnāt. If you heard the creaking of floorboards, you knew danger was coming.
Even better, despite what movies may show, a lot of the old west was founded by Chinese immigrants, so there could have been carpenters around who knew how to make the musical floorboards!
They were also called Nightingale Floors, and looking up to make sure I had the right term, I found they were super clever! They were more than just ill-fit boards or whatever makes floors creak normally, they actually used little metal bars under the boards placed into small holes in the boards to cause the creak.

Elon Musk tried to correct Bernie Sanders about insulin, and ended up getting fact checked by his own platform š¤£š¤£
(Oh and... note that Bernie says the patent for insulin was sold in 1923, which is true, and Elon "corrects" him by saying insulin was discovered in 1921... that's also true, but shows that Elon Musk lacks basic reading comprehension lmao)
Oh! And, the reason the patent for insulin was originally sold for $1 had nothing to do with the price of insulin... it was because Sir Frederick Banting, the scientist who discovered insulin, intended for it to be free. He famously said that insulin does not belong to him, it belongs to the world.
He sold the patents to the University of Toronto for $1 because under Canadian law, $1 is the minimum anything can be sold for, when legal ownership changes hands. If you want to gift a car to someone, you have to sell it to them for $1 in order to legally transfer ownership. Same rule applies to patents.
