@jadedsomething
are people talking about the labor conditions at Taylor Farms yet? like the fact they use enslaved prisoners in their facilities?
are we drawing the connection between worker safety and consumer safety & public health yet?
are people demanding to see the conditions in this place that keeps making us sick? why are the enslaved workers not having the time to use the bathroom or to rest when ill? very few people would shit in front of their coworkers given any choice at all.
Topical novel to read is "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair.
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram
What are you supposed to do when you've accomplished your goal and now you're just still here?
(via bsky)
In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:
Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! Brands), Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Olive Garden, Top Golf, Red Lobster, Burger King, etc.
This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.
We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.
The problem with being low support needs is that people mentally autocorrect that to “no support needs” and then proceed to give you absolutely nothing and then get surprised when you implode after six months.
I hate that enforcing your needs can automatically make you high support needs to people that never intended to give you anything, and then guilt trip you for recognizing the neglect and rejection for suggesting you've gotten nothing instead of mutually abandoning them.
the backrooms are simply not as scary conceptually if there is Something In Them
the whole reason why they're so unnerving is BECAUSE there's nothing in them!! because they're unrelentingly liminal and lonely and uncomforting. there shouldn't be a monster guy in there chasing you. you should glimpse other humans (?) from a distance but they walk away before you can close the gap and then they're gone. things should run away from YOU. do u get it
"and there was a MONSTERowooowwohhhh" the monster is isolation and banal beige sameness and uncanny valley architecture. you fool. you rube. you're putting a hat on a hat and the second hat is not only unnecessary but it ruins the first hat!!!!!!! "there's a monster in there" great so now it's just another place for a monster to be. ridiculous
fine I will concede: you CAN actually put something in there while maintaining the vibes, but it should complement the location instead of just being a generic scary guy you could put literally anywhere
nobody ever mentions this but Soviet jazz is really good
No clue what I would look up but Ill try and find some
> oh it cant be THAT good
> what in the everloving mother of god
Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.
There was a time people were unable to use lyrics mentioning products like Coca Cola because it could've been seen as an endorsement.
Even without ads you'd have to be suspicious that the games, articles, and programs that you were consuming were ads themselves, or otherwise were trying to convince you of something. So often a "for you" selection is full of stuff being promoted. Something thats "popular" isn't actually for me, someone else just wants me to think its supposed to be good. The informative article is actually telling you to take supplements. The show is telling you what side to take in a situation. The game is enabling you when you're wrong. Nothing has to be free of bias, and even in a world without ads you'd have to be weary of what you're being told, and what point you want to understand.
The media landscape would just be less hostile and you can focus on what you're surrounding yourself with instead of having critical thoughts blatantly interrupted.
Gooseworx's account has been restored! This does confirm to me that she didn't deactivate it herself- she hasn't posted about it at least. Which means Tumblr did in fact delete her, and only reinstated her when people got mad about it.
Shocker.
Getting down on my knees and thanking the humans who invented dishwashers and washing machines.
InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.
He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.
“do you feel that you have to shrink yourself in order to be palatable to others?” mm, let’s not do this here
I think people like you more when you do less. Its as if becoming more self-absorbed would be better for you and everyone as you close yourself off. Like you should build an image of yourself for others that lets them see themselves, or something they want to see, rather than the impulses and desires you would rather explore without consequence. In a way, like you're a celebrity with a small audience and everything you do is a performance.
It is hard to find someone who will genuinely appreciate you as you, especially if the person you are changes, and realizing people care makes you feel watched. Observing disturbs the observed, and you can be more genuine if you're not self-conscious. Ideally you shouldn't care if you're liked, but you can only afford that comfort if you're lucky enough to have a space where being liked is not a question.
does anybody understand what the whole mitch
Mcconell situation is???? i keep hearing about it and i cant understand why his death is so important im not i. touch with politics and im confused why its so important??
He's a notorious senator with an election coming up. He's very old and wasn't looking very good before his fall, as he was going to retire soon after serving for decades in the Senate. However he was not found in a responsive condition, and if he wasn't dead before he's practically dead now.
Delaying the news in his official death is purely political, as there would be a special election to replace him before the cutoff date which is August 3rd. The current climate would likely have a Democratic senator replacing Mitch McConnell, hurting the already struggling Republican party which is desperately trying to cling to power as popularity stands against them.
Losing a Republican senator makes it harder to pass legislation favoring the Republican Party, currently lead by Donald Trump and supported by conservative and elitist movements, which have bled public support as Republicans have been losing seats in other special elections as a reaction to policy and governing failures. This relates to the "SAVE America Act" which would have the impact of disenfranchising eligible voters in favor of the Republican party. The "Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act" has been struggling to pass congress in spite of pressure from Trump to address claims of voter fraud.
Having a slim majority in government means fighting for compliance to get legislation passed, and it can get even slimmer.
the devil went DOWN to georgia. always keep that in mind
we are below hell. is what i’m saying
What if Hell is in Washington DC so "Down" means going to The South?
listening to CDs in the kitchen i always brace myself for the ad between songs but then it just keeps rolling. skipping around how i like without interruption feels heavenly. we're in such a commercial angst prison that books and CDs are luxury now 😭
protect, pass on, thrift, gift, and store physical media, it's worth it
I want to blame advertisements for the decline in attention spans because you can't actually immerse yourself in content if you know you'll have to watch an ad. They ruin the mood and taint the experience. People spend hours and days organizing music to be played in a specific order and even if its a long song you can get ads mid-play.
An uninterrupted experience is a luxury because your attention has become a commodity.
And yet its shocking how massive the advertisement industry is. How massive marketing is. That "content" actually refers to the ads, while what we consider content is actually "filler". Advertisements are just a reminder you don't own anything.
Still frame from WikiLeaks "Collateral Murder" video, captured moments before U.S. helicopter pilots would go on to kill civilians and journalists in Iraq in 2007 while casually joking about it. Whistleblower Chelsea Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison, none of the perpetrators were charged
Which of the three remaining european countries in the World Cup colonized your country?
Spain
France
England
For parts of the US that used to be Mexico, would you count that as being colonized by Spain or England?
