Random post but that’s all this account is really.
Hope I don’t offend a lot of people but I really really don’t like the song Money by Lisa. And I’m wondering how it’s become so popular? The only good part of the song, in my opinion, is the horns and even that isn’t original and was sampled. HOW?!
Wondering what the IATSE strike is that you've seen celebrities supporting on social media? Read all about why Hollywood workers are preparing to strike — and how it could affect films and TV
Another strike you should support if you claim to care about the arts or artists. For so long the arts industry has turned passion into exploitation turning dream jobs into nightmares.
On September 21, the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees called for a strike authorization vote, which could potentially result in a historical work stoppage in Hollywood. Upwards of 60,000 union members could walk off the job, which would mean shutting down TV and film production, not just in Los Angeles, but nationwide, affecting everything from pre-production to film editing.
Here’s everything you need to know:
What Is IATSE? IATSE stands for International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees. It’s a labor union that represents 150,000 people in across the entertainment industry, including electricians, camera operators, costumers, makeup artists, special effects, hair stylists, script supervisors and more. These employees are often called “below-the-line” workers, but are essential to production of any film or television show.
IATSE outlined the working conditions they hope to improve in a statement on their website. These include:
-“Excessively unsafe and harmful working hours.
-Unlivable wages for the lowest paid crafts.
-Consistent failure to provide reasonable rest during meal breaks, between workdays, and on weekends.
Workers on certain ‘new media’ streaming projects get paid less, even on productions with budgets that rival or exceed those of traditionally released blockbusters."In short, though money is a part of the problem (with IATSE members saying that the lower pay scale they earn for streaming services like Apple TV and Paramount+ doesn’t keep up with the budgets the streamers are spending on the shows), there’s also a quality of life issue: Demand for their work is off-the-charts with the advent of streamers, and they often don’t get sufficient rest periods not just in between working days but also in between jobs. The union wants a minimum 10-hour break between the end of the workday and the next call time (allowing them an hour commute and eight hour rest period), as well as mandatory 54-hour turnarounds on weekends.
If you care about your TV, care about the people who produce it support those that make it possible for you to enjoy.
In 2025, a new generation is going to start. That means that I’m going to have two generations after me and I was born in the year 2000. I’m not ready to admit I’m an adult yet.
So my hometown is trying to get people to wear masks. The school district just passed the okay to make students wear masks in schools. Great!
A lady was making a really insane argument against the purpose of masks and it made absolutely no sense to me, but whatever. To each their own I guess.
So, me being the stirrer of the hot, bubbling cauldron of political chaos that I am. I came up with a pretty accurate response if you ask me.
The lady: What’s the purpose of wearing masks if you can’t guarantee they are clean? If you wear the mask backwards you will blow your germs out to everyone else and make them sick. Useless in my opinion.
Me (utterly shocked that a full grown woman could be this daft): That... that’s not how that works.
The lady: Oh really? How is that not correct?
Me (my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy): Think of it this way. You’re looking at yourself in a one way mirror. The purpose is to show you your reflection, however it won’t let you see through it and those on the other side can’t see through the mirror or their own reflections on the other side. However, if you turn the mirror around, you still can’t see through it but now you also can’t see your own reflection. But the people facing the mirror side can see their reflections now. It’s destroyed the purpose for you, but not for others. Make sense?
Some interesting stats from a survey taken from this article:
This is what they had to say (again)
This is what Bisexuals mean by Pansexuality perpetrated harmful stereotypes that affect us IRL & how we’re seen in the community. I found this on Twitter and had to share.
Probably going to get shit for this but whatever 🤷♀️.
Not everything about this is wrong or bad. But it’s also not right or good. It’s completely ignoring the fact that pansexulity is different from bisexuality and that the label is important to so many people. I get that some bisexual people believe that the pansexual label was created to erase their sexuality. However that is not the case at all, at least not anymore. Sure people who once identified as pansexual realized they were bisexual. Sure there have been issues between the two communities. But we are not trying to erase you. We simply have a sexuality that is close to yours but not exact. Trying to erase us is just as bad.
People need to remember that sexuality is fluid. It changes as you gain experience and grow older. You change, your sexuality changes. Someone who identified as pansexual could very well be bisexual and not know it. While another person who identifies as pansexual is, in their mind and heart, pansexual. You know we exist right. We’re not just confused versions of you. Our label fits us just fine. We’re not trying to erase your sexuality or anything. We just want to have a label that fits us like everyone else in the lgbtq+ community. I’m sorry it’s got you so worked up.
I don’t understand how somebody can mix up a taser and a handgun.
And if you are so poorly trained that you DO manage to somehow mix them up, you shouldn’t be allowed to be a police officer anymore. You made a fatal error that lead to the death of somebody else. People who make those mistakes without a badge end up in jail and prison despite it being an accident or not.
You talk to any responsible gun owner and they will agree. It is VERY hard to mix up a handgun and a taser. And if you aren’t 100% sure you have the right one in your hand, you SHOULD NOT HAVE YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER.
Police officers are supposed to be trained to defuse these situations. Sometimes more action needs to be done, but never is it okay to make a mistake like this. I find it strange that Minneapolis has had so many issues since Floyd. I’d say it’s time to start sending in people to witness the training of their police officers because something isn’t being done properly.
Do I think she intended to shoot and kill him? I honestly don’t know. But either way, she needs to be reprimanded for her careless behavior. She killed someone and someone needs to take her badge away.
You know what the scary thing is about porn is? Most of it supports rape culture.
Cheap, easy access porn makes up almost the entire porn industry.
A lot of the easier access porn, which is directed towards men, have a lot of surprise sex.
Most of it is something like, a woman just doing her own thing in the safety and privacy of her own home, and then some creepy ass gardener sees from outside the window and decides to strip and climb in through the window. And then they portray it as the woman being happily surprised and okay with it?! That kind of shit?! How is that not creepy?
How does that not implant the idea that that’s what women want? How does that not support rape culture? What woman wants to be railed by a stranger after he watches her masterbate in secret and then breaks into her house?
And this isn’t an isolated thing. There is soooo much easy access porn that is done this way. It’s honestly very concerning.
y’all saying Black Lives Matter for one situation just don’t sit right with me, it goes beyond police brutality!!!
it’s Black women dying at a higher rate during childbirth. it’s Black people being exposed to COVID-19 at a higher rate. it's about Black people like Henrietta Lacks being taken advantage of in thee medical field, but are still being denied healthcare. it's Black people being denied job opportunities due to the name on their applications. it's Black people being denied into higher institutions despite having the same qualifications as their non-Black counterparts. it's Black people having their creations and ideas stolen without being given credit simply because a good percentage of society still believes in 2021, mind you, that Black people are not creative enough or smart enough or skilled enough. it's the decrease of federal funding for schools in predominantly Black neighborhoods due to gerrymandering and redlining. it's Black people being denied housing due to laws in NUMEROUS STATES that inform realtors to refrain from selling black people those homes. it's the kidnapping and murders of Black people that don't make it on the news. it's Black trans women having a life expectancy of 23 YEARS OLD. it's Black people, especially Black trans people, being incarcerated at disproportionately high rates. it's Black people with criminal records who can't find jobs to turn their lives around because they're stuck in one spot after being released from the incarceration system. it's every single Black life that has been lost to racially motivated killings, whether it be the police or by citizens. It's about being the foundation for electing a new President of the United States.
It's about knowing that even though there is still a lot of work to do as a nation, electing someone who values the lives of people over the lives of bank accounts is a step in the right direction.
Black Lives Matter is not just about protesting against police brutality. this is deeper than that.
All Black Lives Matter. Not just the ones you specifically are a fan of. Not just in death, but in life as well.
Yesterday I had to speak up in front of a class of about 100 kids and I totally antisocial-ed it up as always.
My face was hot as hell and I was seconds away from crying. The girl next to me turned to me and said “you did great”. And even though I was still embarrassed, I kept thinking “if she thinks I did good than fuck everyone else.” I don’t know her name but she was really nice and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.
I’m a cynic and I tend to see the worst in people but sometimes I am surprised and she really surprised me. Now I think about my stupid fumble and smile instead of cringe. I just felt like I needed to post about it instead of letting it become an unspoken blip in my life.
First day in my college level American Sign Language class and I’ve already learned that some hospitals and doctors will refuse to treat black people who sign with black ASL. They will literally put them in a waiting room and just leave them there.
My ASL professor told us a story about an experiment she took part in for a sign language equality organization. They took a white, deaf woman into a hospital and had her make the sign for hospital and emergency. She was treated like an emergency, high risk patient. Then the next day they took in a black deaf woman who signed hospital and emergency in black ASL (yes they are different) and she was treated like a child with an ear ache. They put her in a room and left her there for hours. She came back after four hours without ever being seen. In a real emergency she could have died long before anyone even checked on her.
