Pink smoke curled upward in lazy loops, spiralling around Alastor. You watched the Radio Demon’s grin twitch, just a fraction, at the very first sign of disruption.
Good. Let him twitch.
Valentino hooked an arm around your waist and hauled you clean off the ground. “Up ya go, baby,” he purred—then slung you over his shoulder with one hand like you weighed nothing.
His bullets tore through the veil of smoke in perfect formation, carving sharp, bright hearts that pulsed for half a second before dissolving.
You felt Val’s chest shake with a laugh beneath you. “What’s the matter, bitch?” he called out. “Can’t get it up?”
Your breath hitched.
Oh you hated how that tone got to you. The cocky, venom-sweet purr.
You clenched your thighs just a little tighter over his shoulder. Val must’ve felt it, because he laughed again—a low, wicked sound.
“Careful, baby. At this rate I’M gonna be the one distracted.”
Alastor snapped his fingers and two shadow tentacles sliced towards Val.
“Val—left!” you shouted. You raised your gun and fired twice into the shadows trying to pursue him, shredding the darkness long enough for Val to slip cleanly through.
Two shots exploded from the gun. “Daddy’s home.”
He was unbearable.
And you were embarrassingly affected.
Alastor dodged effortlessly, though his grin tightened a fraction. He landed a punch to Alastor’s stomach that sent the Radio Demon lifting from the ground.
“Oh dear,” Val crooned, cocking Moneyshot. “Does that hurt?”
A shiver ran down your spine. Not fear. Not even close.
But that’s when everything went wrong. Two of Alastor’s minion-shadows erupted from the ground, leaping for Val like rabid insects.
Valentino’s scream ricocheted. “HEY! FUCK!”
He staggered, waving wildly, trying to shake both off.
Your heart slammed into your throat as you got down. “Val!”
You fired twice. The first bullet knocked the minion off the gun, its form dispersing in a burst of shimmering smoke.
“Get. Off.” You fired once more as the last minion dissolved.
You steadied Val with a palm against his chest. “I’ve got you.”
He grinned, breathless but smug. “Fuck yeah you do.”
Behind you, Alastor’s chuckle rolled across the plaza, syrupy and delighted. “My, my… such devotion. How touching.”
You spun, raising your gun.
But Alastor wasn’t looking at you. He was looking past you. At something behind Val. A blur darted across your peripheral vision, small and sharp like a thrown knife.
“Niffty—” someone yelled.
Too late.
The little maid-demon vaulted up Val’s back, using his shoulder as a springboard...and her claws slashed across your neck.
Pain tore through you, hot and burning, and your brand new earring—the rose-gold one Val bought you this morning—was ripped clean from your ear.
Blood dripped. Your vision pulsed red. You gasped. “You LITTLE—”
Val turned instantly. “HEY! THE FUCK!?”
Niffty landed on a broken pillar, skittering like a bouncing spider, twirling your stolen earring between her fingers.
“It’s so shiny!” she chirped. “Finder’s keepers!”
Your hand trembled around your gun—not from fear, but pure, cold fury.
“Nobody touches my girl,” he growled, voice thick with rage. “Nobody makes her bleed.”
You lifted your gun again, stepping in front of Val.
Val stood behind you, breath hot on your neck, his hand gripping your waist as though anchoring himself. “Baby,” he murmured, laughter low and dangerous, “let’s fuck them up.”
“Hey, bad boy.”
Before you could shout a warning, she launched herself at him—skittering up his coat, crawling under the fur like a deranged parasite. Val yelped in panic.
“Get OFF him!” you snarled, raising your gun.
But she just laughed, tilting her head. “Hmm. Not there... oh.”
Another stab. Deeper.
A vicious sound ripped from your throat. Before she could land the blow, Valentino caught her mid-air by the neck, one-handed. He slammed her into the floor.
You nearly sagged with relief—then immediately stepped forward, placing yourself at Val’s side, gun raised, fury vibrating in your bones.
Val pressed Moneyshot to Niffty’s forehead.
She twisted her neck like an owl until she met the barrel. “Gun!” she squealed, delighted. “He-ha-ha-ha-ha!”
“Val…” your voice cracked—not with fear, but with sheer rage and panic. “Are you okay? How bad—?”
Val glanced sideways at you, expression softening even in pain. “Baby…” he murmured. “You’re shaking.”
“Because she hurt you,” you snapped.
“And she stole my earring,” you added more quietly.
Niffty perked up at that. “Oh! It’s so cute! I’m keeping it—”
Val’s gun cocked with a click that echoed like a death sentence.
You had already seen many strange things in Hell.
But nothing had prepared you to see Vox your Vox, the TV demon, the walking ego, the diva of electronics spend an entire day playing with a demonic shark as if it were a kitten
The shark, huge, black with electric blue highlights, was swimming in a tank of water, growling softly every time Vox spoke to it in a low and almost… affectionate tone
And you stood there watching the scene, arms crossed, your face frozen somewhere between jealous and "what on earth am I looking at?"
"Look at you, my sharko… you’re the most handsome predator in all of Hell. Who’s the best little carnivore? It’s you, yesss~"
You wanted to scream you had never seen Vox speak so gently to anyone or anything
Even when you complimented him, he would just give a satisfied smile before turning back to his screens
So you decided… to act and in your head, the plan almost seemed logical
If Vox liked that stupid demonic shark, then he was going to love seeing that you too could be a predator
A brilliant (and terribly stupid) idea had just been born in your head.
You then stepped toward the tank, your back slightly hunched, your shoulders trembling, a nervous smile on your lips
Then you began to imitate the shark’s movements part feline, part fluid with a laugh that was a little too high pitched, sounding like a hyena having a nervous breakdown.
"Look, Vox! I’m fierce too! Grrr!"
Vox froze, his eyes narrowing a sign he wasn’t sure whether to laugh or call an exorcist
The shark, meanwhile, just blinked its glowing eyes before circling the tank, intrigued
You tried to keep going one step to the left, a sway to the right but your foot slipped on a loosely coiled electric cable
And then boom
You fell flat on your face, forehead to the ground, legs up in the air, the noise echoing through the entire room. An absolute silence followed
Vox, slowly, turned toward you and gave you a long sideways look, half amused, half exasperated
"Uh… careful there, doll," he said with his eternal crooked smile "You might scare my super dangerous shockwave shark"
He had emphasized "my," just to press right where it hurt
You sat up, cheeks burning, hair a mess, your pride trampled
"I just… uh… wanted to show you that I can be just as… cool as him"
Vox burst out laughing, a laugh distorted by electrical static.
He caught your chin between his metallic fingers, his glowing eyes shining with genuine amusement
"Cool? Maybe not"
He raised an eyebrow, the tone teasing but almost tender.
"But you’re definitely more entertaining. And you know how much I love entertainment"
He then helped you to your feet, winking at the tank.
"Sorry, big guy. I think I just found a new favorite "
You blushed so hard that even his screens seemed to overload with color
