One of the reasons I don’t like the brothers interpretation of Johnny and Dallas is because very rarely have I seen those who do treat them… brotherly! It is always parentalism and further excused to baby Johnny into a far younger, far weaker situation than he is actually within.

Johnny is quiet, he is the most “law abiding” but he is sixteen years old. He is not the baby to Dally or to the gang. He is treated gentler because of the rough time he has at home and his jumping ONLY A FEW MONTHS from canon. He is a full fledged member and individual.

It particularly upsets me as it not only makes Johnny a child over a teenager but it strips him of his personhood. That he must be protected and parented by a friend who is barely a YEAR older than him— whose whole thing is seeing him as a person. Not a narrative device. Not a representation of anything. His life long friend and fellow teenager.

* I’ve always said it but to put an exact label on their relationship, to me, devalues it. They are linked to each other no matter which lense you see them through. If any label, I think Bonded pair.

So I read the outsiders and I feel a new fixation brewing… IM SCARED… anyways 60s greaser hair is ridiculously hard to draw and I had to go back and redraw all of their hair like. Multiple times because it’s HARD. But I think I do like how this turned out. Soda is the best character and I will die by that. Steve and Darry are the hardest to draw and I rest my case. I do not ship any of them sorry they are my found family ever

Johnny sees through Dally’s facade, he sees him as a person, not just a hoodlum. Dally sees Johnny as more than just a kid, and treats him as his age.

They have this mutual experience of being forced into boxes their whole lives, until the other comes along and sees them for everything they are.

Little Rant

The worst part of The Outsiders fandom is that you're not allowed to have any fun.

I'll make an obviously not serious post and now I'm getting a whole lecture in the reblogs and comments because ya'll can never just take a joke.

As much as I love these characters, they are not real people. I promise you that they don't care I made a dark joke about them.

If it bothers you that much, just block me because I'm really sick of all these self-righteous lectures.
