James & Alex

James was mortified at the idea of having to act like a dog all day. It was like a nightmare that he never expected to come true. James didn't even know Alex all that well, and while he expected that she'd be kind and sympathetic towards him, it didn't make him feel any less embarrassed at what was about to come. But he dreaded to think of the consequences of not completing the dare, so he swallowed whatever pride he had and went to Alex's house. He knocked on the door and, when she answered, James swallowed and gave her a small, awkward smile. "H-Hi," he said, holding up a dog lead he'd bought on the way. "I-I suppose we should just get this over with." He just prayed that nobody he knew would be in the town centre today.

Elizabeth’s mouth curved up into a smirk as she listened to him speak, amusement in her eyes when he realised. “I am, here.” She held up the ball for him to take. “You’re quite nervous.” She stated.

He smiled gratefully when she offered the ball and he took it gently from her hands. He always got especially nervous when around beautiful girls, and obviously it was showing. "I-I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me. I'm er, I'm James."

Lise wrapped her arms around her old friend. Everybody she loved seemed to have left town, so she was very thankful to see him again. “Don’t be stupid, I’m glad you’re back.” Moving from the embrace again, she cocked her head to the side. “Why did you leave..?”

James sighed with relief when Lise hugged him. Obviously, it was very difficult for him to make friends and with Ally and his cousins now gone, Lise was one of the only people he had left. "Thanks," he said with a small smile as she pulled away. "I'm glad to be back." That was only a partial lie. He had demons here, but he'd have them anywhere since he couldn't just leave his disorder behind and move somewhere else. Now he had to lie again, since he didn't want to tell Lise all about his countless therapy sessions. "I just went to stay with my cousin Stephen for a while. I think he gets lonely sometimes. Don't we all?" he added with a light chuckle.

Only on rare occasions was Sofie without a smile. She was always very much away with the fairies and today was no different. “I have never played in my life so we will be really rubbish together.” She extended her arm and shook his hand. “I’m Sofie. I like you already, James.”

James smiled, feeling more at ease thanks to the girl's bubbly personality, and he quickly held out his hand to shake Sofie's. "It's nice to meet you," he replied. He blushed at the girl's next comment, and looked down. "I-I like you too. Not many girls around here are as friendly as you, especially after we've just met."

“What the fuck James? I heard you were back…why didn’t you tell me?”

When Lise turned around, James almost jumped in surprise. "O-Oh, hey Lise," he said, smiling awkwardly and scratching his head. "I just didn't want to bother you. I missed you, though. You're one of my only friends here. Please don't hate me."

“Sorry. Wow, I’m so silly. I won’t keep it but I’m not doing so well at playing with it on my own, so we could play together?”

James smiled, suddenly feeling a lot less nervous. "It's okay," he chuckled. He nodded at the girl's offer. "Y-Yes, please. That'd be fun. I-I'm not very good though, so you might get bored of me quite quickly. Oh, I'm James, by the way."

“No — why would I…? Okay, well, if you hear it too…Should be go and check? Or…Shit. No. It’s too dark, and this is the perfect setting for the start to a horror film.”

James shrugged, beginning to feel anxious at the thought of what might be lurking outside. "I-I don't know," he stammered, peering out of the window. "I've got a torch in my bag. It might just be something really silly... I hope it is, anyway. I-I'll come with you if you want to look."

James considered the offer for a moment, before giving the blonde a small smile. "Err... Okay," he replied. "But I-I'll warn you, I'm not very good."

James' eyes widened and his jaw dropped noticeably. "Err-- I-- You can keep it." He brought his hands together and started twiddling his thumbs nervously. "I mean... Well, you’re beautiful, but...” James paused for a moment. “You’re just teasing me, aren’t you?”

“That’s ok and oh, life, betrayal. Typical soap opera drama.” She scoffed with annoyance. “Sorry.” She scrunched her nose at him. “I don’t wanna drag you down with it.”

James smiled gently at the blonde. "You're not, don't worry... Do you want to talk about it?"

"Sorry, but er...-- I think that's my ball. But, err, you can keep it if you want..."

"I-I don't think so. I'm sorry, Ellie. What's going on?"

“I’m not leaving the van, you can try and drag me out but it will not work. I feel disgusting. I hate sand. It gets everywhere. Literally…”

James awkwardly stood at the door of Gabby's van, twiddling his thumbs. "If it helps... Well, I'm out of my comfort zone too. M-Maybe you won't hate it so much if you just give it a try. You might enjoy yourself."
