James pushed the door to family library opened, scanning the room. Grinning triumphantly at finally finding his quarry, James strided over to Sirius, only stopping short upon seeing the look on Sirius’ face. It was stormy, eyes concealing pain and grief under anger.
“Padfoot,” James said slowly, deeply concerned for his friend. What did his family do this time? Weren’t they done with them, after all Sirius was never going back right.
Sirius remained silent, continuing to glare at the window. James sighed. It was going to be hard than he thought to get Sirius talking.
“Padfoot,” James began again, “Sirius, are you alright? And don’t you dare say you’re not because I know you’re aren’t” James added quickly before Sirius could say deny anything.
“Then why are you asking if you know the truth,” Sirius snapped at James.
James grinned. “To get you to talk, of course.” Sirius glared at James as James slide into the spot opposite him so they were face to face on the small ledge under the window. “I don’t want to talk about it,” Sirius said, refusing to look directly at James.
“Just tell me what’s going on, please.” James pleaded with Sirius. “I want to help.” James gently touched Sirius face, causing Sirius to subconsciously lean into it. “You can trust me.”
Sirius hesitated slightly before launched into a rant, “It’s just, I can’t believe I actually left. Like I’m glad I left but it hurts.” Sirius started pacing. “They really hate me. I always knew they did but it still hurts. And how can anyone love me if my own parents hate me. How can anyone love me. Nobody can.” Sirius crumpled to the floor, trying hard not to cry.
James jumped up and hurried to him. “That’s not true. Screw your parents. They don’t know shit. If they don’t love you, then they don’t know anything.” James pulled Sirius up, turning Sirius towards him. “And you know who loves you. I do. And I will always love you.” James gently kissed Sirius forehead. Sirius leaned into, feeling James love through it, healing some of the wounds caused by his family. James pulled back slightly, “And I’m not going anywhere.”
“Promise.” Sirius whispered.
“I solemnly swear.” James said, bringing a slightly smile to Sirius’ face. It was going to be ok, as long as James was by his side.
