Quick sketch I did yesterday of an original character, Nasatya Ashvin (name is a play on hindu god). He is an elder twin tiefling guard. I'm trying to do more quick sketches that don't need to be huge paintings. Gives me a chance to relax, not stress about perfecting it, and to feel accomplished at getting something quick done. I specifically purchased a hard cover canson sketchpad for it. (Omg I was so excited to find out they made these). Hopefully more to come. I was inspired after watching my friend @simplykitt finish a sticker sketch/painting on her twitch stream to finally get around to finishing my logo. I started this 7 months or so ago when I realized someday I wanted to do some convention booth selling of my art and hats. "Thank You for the Home" I've been trying to do more practice work with paints for shading, and I found my happy place is skulls. Which makes sense, considering I love portraits and knowing how to shade a skull helps understand the facial structure in a portrait. I know a lot of you will love or hate this for it's creepy factor, but it spoke to me in the nature of life. Not to mention the colors in old skulls just fascinate me from an artist's aspect. . The reference for the bird is an azure-winged magpie. I don't think I got the size right, as they are part of the crow family, but hey, its pretty. A little painting I did originally as a warm up sketch that turned into a full on painting, because that's who I am. Lol. I am trying to do more preliminary sketches and smaller paintings because the large stuff takes so long. It was very satisfying to finish this one in two sit downs. I am planning more Historical Mice! It will be under #historicalmice. This one is 6"×6" on Bee Paper Company (hehe) mixed media paper. Outlined with a black Copic multiliner, painted with PH Martin's Hydrus Watercolor inks, and the white is a Uniball Signo white ink pen. . . I looked at a few portraits and mixed them up for this, "The Ermine Portrait of Elizabeth I", 1585 by Nicholas Hillard, "The Red Sieve Portrait" 1579 by George Gower, and a portrait of Lattice Knollys 1585 by George Gower. I added a bee because she is a mouse and I wanted it to be akin to a small dog or a hawk. It's Donnneeeeeee!!!! This is tiefling Prince (now King) Namtaru Scyphra and his half-elf assassin lover, Bastillion Breye, a character of the lovely @simplykitt. . I took so long on this (started back in September) because I wasn't happy with how blotty a lot of my watercolors tended to look. I tries a few other things, practiced techniques on other paintings, and then applied them here. I also wasn't sure about color balancing, in some ways this piece is really bright and really dark, also with the more cartoonish smoke so I needed to balance that out.
