I'm sure that's a part of it! Haven't we all watched someone do something and thought, oh, that looks easy, I shouldn't have a problem at all doing that myself and then… well, you know, you end up having a big problem trying to do that yourself? Same goes with line dancing, I'm very convinced about that! You should, I'm sort of surprised that we don't have a dance studio already, come to think of it. There are enough kids in town, too, I can see them wanting to take dance lessons. But I bet it can be heartwarming at the same time, right? Wehad dinner at my parents', and I did take my mother to the event in town, which I think she got a kick out of! How about you, did Joella spoil you?
Oh, of course! Whenever I watch anything DIY on Facebook, I'm always convinced that I can recreate whatever they're trying to do but I never can do it just perfectly like they do. Yeah! It would be a fun thing to have, you know? Though, if we did get one, I'd like to do theme nights. Imagine a Broadway theme with Fosse dances. That would be fun. Yeah, exactly! And she did, I felt like the luckiest mom. Doing anything for Father's Day now that it's coming up?
WHAT: Open starter! WHERE: Pool party, sometime after 8pm
Will had been in out of the pool for a while now and honestly she was starting to ache from all the swimming. So she had now perched herself close to the pool so she could people watch, but enough out of the way so that she wouldn't get splashed. Sensing someone coming to sit nearby to her, she turned her head and smiled. "This is pretty cool right? We never did nothing like this back home." Will remarked as she took a long sip through her somewhat soggy paper straw.
As she was walking to the side of the pool to relax, Jenn was happily sipping on some kind of fruity drink. Getting to go to the pool always made it feel more like summertime in Merrock in Jenn's mind and she was happy to enjoy everything it had to offer. As she moved to sit near the pool, a smile moved across her face as she heard the other's voice. "It is," she nodded. Pool parties, drinks, and nighttime swims were all apart of her routine whenever the warm months came around. "This your first pool party?" she asked as she looked at the other. "I think events like these are always so wonderful. I love the atmosphere."
Joella enjoyed art-related activities. So when she saw that Brush to Canvas was having an art day for Mother's Day, she agreed to go with her mom. The two of them had been trying to fix things up, and she was doing her best to be a responsible adult. So at least today, they could spend more time together and work on that goal. Being away from town and trying to figure her life out made her realize how much she actually needed her mom.
"Ready!" Jo waved to her mom when she arrived. She kissed her mom's cheek, fixing her top a bit to make sure it was straightened out. She tossed her long hair over her shoulder. "Gosh, I haven't painted in such a long time!"
Art had always been one of Jenn's passions, and it was nice that it would allow to her to find some bonding time with her eldest child. Not that things would be fixed with them overnight, but Jenn knew that it took baby steps to further strengthen their relationship. Maybe it was Jenn's own bringing up that made her extra protective over her children, and she knew that times had changed since she was Joella's age herself. Not everyone took the linear timeline of going to school and entering the workforce, and that was something she was trying to keep in her mind as she watched Jo do her own thing.
Jenn returned Joella's kiss on her cheek with one of her own, before moving back and wiping off her daughter's cheek. Moving to wrap her arm around Joella's, Jenn looked over at her with a smile. "I haven't either to be honest. I think I might even be more excited for the painting than I am the drinks. But only a little," she laughed as they walked in together. Jenn moved to one of the open stations and sat down her belongings, moving to put her hair up into a low ponytail. "What do you think we'll be painting today? Something fairly easy, I hope."
Pretty much! Holiday drinks are a big part of it too! Wine's a good choice as well. Do you prefer red or white? Or maybe even rose? I usually like red, but I could go for a good sweeter wine some days. Or depending on what I'm pairing it with. I was out at the park! It was really cool actually. Yeah? Did you have a favorite one?
Ooh, good question. I've always loved white wine, but I've been starting to really enjoy red as well. Rose isn't too bad, either! Taste is always a great place to see what pairings go together when it comes to food and wine. I really love what they do over there. Oh, nice! I think my favorite ones would've been the ones indoors. With air conditioning. How did you enjoy Nature Week? Looking forward to June now that we're almost there?

PATIENTLY, PACO WATCHES the other person take a forkful of his new ceviche salad recipe, a white towel anxiously squeezed in his fist as he awaits their verdict. "how do you find it? too sour? too spicy? you think the shrimp to greens ratio is enough?"
Jenn took a bite of the dish that Paco wanted her to try out, letting the flavors sit in her mouth for a few moments as she chewed. As someone who often made new versions of her cookies, she always valued honest feedback when it came to her work. And she wanted to do that for the other, too. "I personally think it's great. Maybe it could have a little bit more spice to it but I'm just someone who loves things hot. Other than that, it's really great. The perfect summer meal."
Thank you, Jenn! That means a lot to me. I'm glad people like reading about the events around town! Hopefully that also means that we will get more folks to come around and join in again. No problem! Always glad to support the local paper. I know that print is dying in other areas and I'll be damned if it ever happen here, so I'm still a big fan of getting my news from you guys every morning. I hope that more people join next year, too! Or maybe not even just for that week. Just going to volunteer whenever they have time. Great! Oh, those places were great! I went to some of those places as well. Speaking of the state park, did you hear about the damage that happened the past week? Can't believe that the bears actually came out. Though, I'm sure they smelled the food.

What is Mother's day without flowers? Don't worry, these ones won't die out so quickly. Next is a new bag. I remember you said yours was falling apart, so I found one that's cute and in the perfect color! Lastly, the earrings which I think will look absolutely fabulous on you, plus they’re in your birthstone color!

Jenn had seen an advertisement for the event over at From Brush to Canvas and thought it would be a good opportunity for her and Joella to spend some time together, especially since it was Mother's Day. Though Jenn was still learning to accept Joella's career choice and decision to not follow the path she had laid out, she wanted to repair the relationship with her daughter since she was back in town now. So, she was happy when she saw that Joella accepted the invitation to go to the Mother's Day event.
Jenn had been waiting outside the gallery, wanting to walk in with Joella. A smile lifted up on her features when she saw her first born arriving. "I'm so glad you could make it!" she spoke cheerfully, moving to give Joella a hug. "Ready to go in?"
Hey! I was hoping to see you back when volunteer week was going on, but I think we missed each other only by a little bit. With Mother's Day coming up, are you planning on going to the paint and sip session? I know that Jo and I made plans, it looks like fun.
Ice cream cups are much more convenient and better to maintain than cones, I feel like. I can't tell you how many times a cup has saved me when it starts to melt faster than I can eat it. It's good that they were able to give her a cup! Did she end up getting the same flavor, too?
What is it about line dancing that looks so easy… but is actually so hard? I'm also pretty sure I was not born with a single honky tonk bone in my body, so maybe that's where the actual problem lies, but still. Now I feel like I need to see you try out the Cha Cha, to be honest! I bet that you could teach most people a thing or two. Very, very good, my mum and dad always go overboard with holiday dinners, I have to say. Is it a loud, rambunctious family when it comes to those get togethers?
Maybe seeing others do it effortlessly gives into the illusion? Picturing you with honky tonk bones is making me laugh. But you're right - I feel like it really comes down to being a natural at it. Maybe I'll host a dance class or something one of these days! Perhaps we could talk the Benefactor or the town's committee in getting the town a dance studio. Yeah, too many Suh's in one place is cause for a riot almost. So many voices and opinions! Doing anything for Mother's Day?
It is! People love beer for different occasions! Usually doesn't fail. Oh, that's good, then! I try to get some hours in during my free time, when I can. But I'm looking forward to actually setting some time aside to help out.
A drink for whenever you need, yeah? Or at least whenever there's a big holiday. That's when I usually drink it. I'm mostly a wine girl most of the time. Where did you end of volunteering? I went to a few places around town to give my time. @vincexmatthews
"But it's so gratifying, right," they agreed with a nod. There was lots of ways to do work and achieve things, but something unique about the workout that came from sore muscles and moving things around. They reached down for their bottle of water, taking a big sip in order to properly cool down. "You've been doing great work, though, the fence looks beyond incredible. We're going to have the most beautiful state park in the state after this. Have you been elsewhere doing work this week?"
"It is! I like that we get to see our hard work come to fruition in real time," she smiled in agreement. Maybe helping to put up a fence wasn't the first thing on her list of things she would sign up for, but she realized that it challenged her in a way that she needed. "Thank you! You're doing great, too. With everyone coming together, I also think that this is going to make us in the running for best state park. In terms of aesthetics but also trails," she replied before answering the question that Amina asked. "I've been to the library and over to the daycare, too. This is my first time doing something outdoors. You?" @aminarocks

When Tommy realised the best baker in Merrock was volunteering along side him at the library his mood instantly perked up. As a regular customer to Cookie Cabin he knew the woman by proximity, though not very well. This does not stop him from pausing in front to open the conversation with "what's the chances you brought treats with you?" hey, it never hurts to ask, right?
Jenn had always enjoyed volunteering, so coming to the library to help go through their inventory didn't feel too foreign to her. Plus, she had enjoyed the company that was around her. Out of the corner of her eye, she could recognize the familiar face as he came in often. When he started talking to her, Jenn turned her attention to him with a smile gracing her features. "I may or may not have brought some cookies for everyone to have when we get a break," she whispered back, moving a bit closer so he could hear her. "But I hid them in the staff's work room so no one could eat them all before we were all finished."
Don’t worry, I promise you’ll love them! And they’ll be out and ready to be read pretty soon. I loved seeing all the different ways people decorated their eggs. And from all ages! So it was nice to see everyone getting creative. Mhmm. Oh yes, I was never really good at decorating cookies. Even with a kit or a stencil, it always turned out lopsided. I’m glad it’s starting to turn around, even if it is very slowly. How has the rest of your week been? Did you have a good holiday?
I read them and they were very, very well written! You did a good job at covering the event. Me too, it's nice that everyone can enjoy it! Makes me proud to have this community, you know? Who: Amina & Open Where: State Park When: Anytime during volunteer week!
Amina, as a rule, believed in giving back to the places they took the most from. They'd spent a lot of their free time at the state park, digging for rocks, going for hikes, even doing some yoga or meditation if the need arose. It was one of the most beautiful parts of Merrock, and a nice bike ride from home too.
Today, they'd set out on helping to reset some fences along the parking lot that had fallen down, realigning the wood posts and picking up the mess along the way. They turned to the person near them with a smile, realizing they hadn't spoken. "The volunteer coordinator gave me a look when I said I wanted to do the heavy lifting and that only challenged me more, but I think they were a tiny bit right." They leaned against the fence they'd just realigned.
Living so close to the state park was one of the many perks of having a house out in the countryside - or at least that's what Jenn had thought. Being out in nature had always allowed her to self-reflect and take time to really ground herself, always feeling like her best self when she was in the peaceful space that it offered.
So, it was sort of a no-brainer for her to decide to take some time to volunteer out in the park, hoping to make a difference to one of the places that gave her so much joy. A bright smile formed on her lips as she heard the other speaking to her, stopping so she could give her undivided attention to the other. "I knew this was going to be hard work. But this was a lot more than I bargained for," she laughed in agreement, wiping some sweat off of her brows. "Though, it's been rewarding to see all of our progress as we continue on."
