star wars headcanonâs part 8
no order 66 au / jedi order didnât fall au.
one of my favorite little details when I read star wars fanfics set pre-order 66 with master/padawan dynamics is when they discuss living arrangements, particularly what happens when the padawan gets knighted.
because! normally in canon, the padawan and master live together for the duration of the apprenticeship, and if / when the padawan is knighted, they move into their own room / apartment.
and I find it hilarious! that the fandom heard that and collectively went, âyeah noâ đ
this is mostly referring to fanon in fanfics with obi-wan and anakin (ahsoka too) all living together because anakin just flat out refuses to move out of obi-wanâs apartment.
and then that got me thinking... how would other canon master / padawan duos go down if they were put in these scenarios?
so here are my headcanonâs:
Anakin & Ahsoka:
itâs definitely a âfather desperately doesnât want his daughter to move outâ situation.
anakin has WAY more of an issue with it than ahsoka does. like, I imagine ahsoka has to fight anakin on moving out because sheâs just like, âI want my own place.â
but anakinâs over here like, ânow hold on, you can still stay a couple more years. save up your money and live with us.â
ahsoka: âanakin, Iâll literally be just down the hall.â
anakin: âthatâs too far!â
Caleb Dume / Kanan Jarrus & Ezra Bridger:
ezra barely spends any time at his own place, especially when it comes to sleeping.
most mornings after ezra is knighted, kanan / caleb wakes up, walks into the living room, and just finds ezra asleep on his couch like some homeless couch surfer.
and whenever kanan / caleb tries to make ezra sleep in his own apartment, or early on when he actually kicks him off the couch. ezra just goes and crashes on SOMEBODY ELSEâ couch!
seriously, this man has slept over at basically everyoneâs place: luke skywalker, ahsoka tano, cal kestis, depa billaba, obi-wan kenobi even FREAKING mace windu has had this blueberry menace spend the night in his living room. he is absolutely shameless.
Luke Skywalker & Yoda:
luke stays for like a year or so after his knighting, but not because he doesnât want to move out. heâs just a little anxious about his master living alone again.
itâs basically the equivalent of having an elderly grandparent living by themselves and constantly worrying somethingâs gonna happen when youâre not there (also I can absolutely picture yoda being terrible at keeping up with cleaning)
itâs literally just like when a grandson away at college constantly worrying about his elderly grandfather.
and even after luke finally moves out, he still stops by for dinner as much as he can (like three or four nights a week whenever he isnât off on a mission)
also: whenever luke is on long missions, he totally calls other jedi, like ezra, ahsoka, cal, etc. and asks / makes them do wellness checks for him on yoda. luke messages like âcan you please go check up on my master, someone needs to check up on him and make sure heâs taking his meds and eating something other than frogsâ
Baylan Skoll & Shin Hati:
the actual separation doesnât kick up much of a fuss. but shin NEEDS to call baylan every. single. night.
if she doesnât hear from him, she lowkey starts freaking out.
baylan misses one call and suddenly he has 20 voicemails that go from quietly concerned to increasingly frantic.
"master...? are you okay?"
"why aren't you answering?"
"master, please call me back."
"WHY AREN'T YOU CALLING ME BACK??!â
it all just feels like that point in life where parents stop parenting their kids... and the kids start parenting their parents.
who should I do next?
Star Wars headcanonâs part 7
no order 66 au
i think we can all agree that in a no order 66 universe, ezra bridger would still invent the gunsaber as his first lightsaber.
but honestly, the funniest part isn't even ezra making it. it's imagining how the jedi order reacts when this 14-year-old proudly walks into the temple carrying... that.
first is knight caleb dume/kanan jarrus, ezraâs master, who's the first person ezra shows.
caleb is trying so hard to be supportive because, hey, it's his padawan's first lightsaber. this is supposed to be a proud moment, except he also knows exactly what every master on the council is about to say when ezra shows up carrying this absolute monstrosity.
it's also his first padawan, so he has absolutely no clue how he's supposed to react, and trying to be supportive so he settles for a slow "...i'm proud of you?â and just accepts his fate.
and then we get everyone else's reactions:
master yoda: "mmmhhh... a choice, that is, padawan ezra."
obi-wan kenobi: completely speechless. just slowly turning to side-eye mace windu like, "please don't let this happen."
mace windu: eyes closed. refusing to make eye contact with anyone, thinking, "after all my years serving the jedi order... my lineage is going to be remembered as the one that produced the inventor of the gunsaber."
anakin skywalker: "F*ck, that's genius. why didn't i think of that?!"*
and then somehow...it starts a trend.
all the younglings think the gunsaber is the coolest thing they've ever seen. new padawans start modifying their lightsabers too.
like how older jedi have elegant high republic-inspired hilts, or clone wars-era padawans tend toward more practical, utilitarian designs...
the generation of post-clone wars? gunsabers.
it's basically the jedi equivalent of every fashion trend adults absolutely hate but teenagers think is the coolest thing ever.
the council is horrified. the padawans are obsessed.
and then you just have Obi-Wan in the background, watching this all happen, losing his mind like âNOOOOO!!!â
star wars headcanonâs part 6
unpopular opinion: whenever I read a Star Wars fanfiction / novel / short story and they describe Anakin Skywalker having âblonde hairâ my heart hurts because, AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILLâŚ
Anakin is MUCH MORE HANDSOME AS A BRUNETTE!
I said it! Say whatever you want to say about Haydenâs portrayal of Anakin, there can be no other mental image of Anakin for me! The curly, mullet, dark brown hair is so handsome! And he looks even better in CWs! To me, it makes him look so more charming, rugged, and just fits his vibe overall better than blonde hair!(nothing against it just I REFUSE to picture him that way mentally) And it is CRIMINAL we donât appreciate it more!
âŚbut on another note, I do like Luke Skywalker having blonde hair. Just in this case, I headcanon he got his hair from his grandmother, Shmi.
it genuinely melts my brain watching people take sith monologues at face value like theyâre TED talks instead of⌠you know⌠villain speeches.
like. these are not neutral historians. these are not unbiased narrators. these are men who wake up every morning and choose manipulation as a lifestyle.
and yet people hear palpatine whispering into anakinâs ear like âthe jedi are hiding things from you⌠they donât trust youâŚâ and go. wow. compelling. source: dude in a hood who has never told the truth once in his life.
HELLO???
of course heâs going to say that. what else is he supposed to do. sit anakin down and go âhi yes i am actively trying to emotionally isolate you from your support system so i can turn you into my apprentice and ruin your lifeâ like be serious đ
same with maul going âyouâve been indoctrinated by the jediâ as if HE wasnât raised in a sith pipeline since childhood. sir. that is not a revelation.
and dooku. walking around like a philosophy professor going âthe republic is corruptâ yeah okay, we know, and your solution is⌠fascism with extra lightning???
like yes. the jedi made mistakes. but, theyâre an institution, not a divine being. but the leap from âthe jedi arenât perfectâ to âthe sith are telling the truth actuallyâ is INSANE to me.
oh yeah, letâs unquestionably take advice from a man who took advantage of his mentally unstable best friend (dooku), another man who got his skin barbecued (palpatine), and one WHO LITERALLY GOT CHOPPED IN HALF (maul). they seem like theyâve made good, informed, rational life choices
to be a jedi. (maul: shadow lord spoilers)
The thing is "Padawan. Steal a car." is actually one of the oldest and noblest Jedi traditions. Part of the standard duties of being a Padawan involves securing the getaway vehicle when your assignment has gone sideways six times over and developed into a full Situation. They have all done this. I know in my heart that even Luminara at some point looked at a situation and sighed and asked Barriss to please steal a car before the shooting starts.
this is canon now. i will accept nothing less, this is perfection.
not only because itâs funny, but because of the spectrum of how a padawan can react. we can go from a goodie two shoes, nervous padawan âumm are you sure we wonât get in trouble for this?â all the way to âsays less! Iâve already got the engine running!â
hot take: in the Ahsoka series, when baylan skroll said âI miss the idea of it [the Jedi Order], but not the truth.â he just acknowledged what we all knew was flawed about the Republic Jedi Order.Â
what they stood for was beautiful and noble, but the truth is they failed to live up to those ideals. they preached no attachment, and yet thatâs exactly what their relationship to the senate / palpatine was. and that was never more clear than at the end of the clone wars, when obi-wan and anakin chose to go back to defend corusant instead of fight for mandalore. the jedi were meant to be defenders of justice, not the Republic, and they let themselves lose sight of that.
and thatâs what i love about the idea of âbokken jediâ like ahsoka tano, ezra bridger, kanan jarrus, etc. these were jedi who were trained and adhered to the principles of the order like the will of the Force, selfless ideals, and symbols like lightsabers. however, they were free to embody / interpret / live out those teachings for themselves rather than simply following the order's answers.
they weren't taught WHAT to think, they were taught HOW to think as jedi, and that freedom made each one of the "bokken jedi" uniquely attuned to the force in a way most pre-order 66 jedi were not.Â
and sure, there are downsides. they painfully lack a cohesion, a brotherhood, to rely and support one another, unlike the order. and you might describe them as "rough around the edges," and each has a different style / understanding of their own practice of the jedi, meaning they probably couldn't come to a consensus if you tried to write it down or simplify it into a single doctrine. but that, in itself, is what the order lacked in understanding: not every jedi is going to have the same way of connecting to the force.
in the end, it's a philosophical question. does it really matter how they embody and live out the jedi teachings? or is what's important that they uphold the principles of the jedi religion while finding their own path to understanding and staying on the light side?
Star Wars headcanonâs part 5
kanan jarrus survives au
I fully believe that if kanan had lived, we would have gotten WAY more blind jokes, especially from Ezra. it would have taken awhile, mostly because Ezra still felt guilty in Rebels. But imagine if Kanan lived in a series set in the future, like Ahsoka, something like this would happen on the regular:
40-something Kanan, exasperated: âI canât believe this!â
30-something Ezra, smirking: âWhat Kanan? You didnât SEE that coming?â
40-something Kanan: *prolonged sighs*
Ezra might be older and wiser, but heâll always be Kananâs âlittle sh*tâ padawan.
They all have beef with it
Manifesting Devon and Ezra meeting, and knowing that both of them know Maul.
The amount of teenage sass they could inflict on that old manâŚ.
everyone please remember Ezra once told THE Darth Vader âYouâre smart. Figure it out!â, fought him, AND SURVIVED!
this blueberry gremlin sassed the youngling slayer and LIVED!
Star Wars headcanonâs part 4
If jedi were introduced with a nickname epithet part 1:
Ezra âIf they go low, you go LOWERâ Bridger
Ahsoka âIâm no Jediâ Tano
Cal â.50â Kestis
Luke âChanel Bootsâ Skywalker
Anakin âGeneva convention is a suggestionâ Skywalker
Obi-wan âCatch these handsâ Kenobi
Qui-Gon âFollow the Force, f*ck the Councilâ Jinn
Darth âYouâre a Jedi padawan, wanna be my apprentice?â Maul
Master âKilled 8 clones, I have nowâ Yoda
Who should I do next?
star wars au idea part 1
sequel era au + order 66 happens differently + anakin skywalker did not fall + jedi knight Ben solo + sith rey
HERE ME OUT!
in this au, anakin skywalker did not fall, instead at the end of the clone wars, order 66 just depleted the Jedi ranks (doesnât wipe them out), palpatine ârevivesâ the sith, naming them the âdefenders of the separatistsâ and creating another Sith War. now the galaxy is split between Sith allied / Separatist planets and Jedi allied / Republic planets.
but padme still lives, gives birth to luke and leia, anakin is allowed to stay in the order (there Jedi forces are too depleted they canât expel him), anakin becomes a master jedi.
years go by, the Jedi / Sith continue to fight, luke becomes a jedi, and eventually trains and knights his nephew, Ben Solo.
meanwhile, palpatine has been training more sith who have titles of dark lord (only palpatine has the title of Darth) and in these lord ranks, thereâs Sith lord rey!
and basically what happens is jedi knight ben solo and sith lord rey fight time and time again. thereâs struggles where jedi ben gets tempted by the dark side, but also moments where sith lord rey gets exposed to the light side.
and ultimately through a lot of trials, they end up saving each other, rey saves ben from fully falling to the dark side, and ben brings rey to the light. and they work together to end the war / restore balance / end the sith.
couple of fun side character ideas!
Grand Master Anakin Skywalker - became grandmaster after Grand Master Obi-Wan Kenobi passed away, only stays the grandmaster during the war (literally only a few years), then when the war ends he leaves (retires) from the Order to live out the remainder of his life on Naboo with Padme, Luke becomes the grandmaster afterwards. (100% anakinâs time as grandmaster was chaotic as heck, everyone takes a deep breathe of relief when luke becomes the new grandmaster LMAO! biggest thing decision he did was he changed the code so jediâs could marry / have attachments)
Finn - in this au, heâs backstory stays the same, heâs was a stormtrooper fighting on the sith / separatist side of the war. however! heâs force sensitive, was trying to hide it, but eventually some sith found him and recruited him into their ranks as an forced trainee / initiate. luckily, sith lord rey finds him, and takes him on as her âapprenticeâ (kind of takes pity on him since he wasnât likely to survive since he was considered âsoftâ and not gonna make it; note in this au sith induct students / trainees at any age! so rey was inducted and trained since she was a child, but Finn was found and inducted as an young adult, so thatâs why sith lord rey can be his âsith masterâ and finn her âapprenticeâ while both of them are around the same age) . in this au, their relationship STRICTLY stays platonic evolving from a awkward, strained master / apprentice relationship, to friends, and then eventually a strong brother / sister bond! neither of them make great sith, and eventually when rey eventually defects from palpatine and joins the fight alongside the jedi, finn follows her (finn didnât even wanna be sith in the first place, heck no is he staying there w/out rey!) also there is side plot Finn x Poe Dameron! (poe is also relatively the same, one of the best pilots in the war, works under General Leia)
Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and Cal Keetis are all respected, powerful Jedi Masters and all are on the Jedi council (BECAUSE I SAID SO)
Some Clone troopers are still alive (like Rex, Wolffe, Gregor, etc)! after Order 66, the Jedi helped to free those remaining/ survived of their chips and helped them find a cure for their accelerated aging. still most of the are super old / retired, theres just a small number living out the remainder of their lives in the Jedi temple.
finally! thereâs bad ending / good ending, canât decide which:
good ending = the sith are defeated, Rey & Ben live, go onto marry each other and become Jedi Masters
bad ending = the sith are defeated, but either Rey or Ben dies (leaning more towards Rey) ending the war
note! i know ages are crazy in this au since anakin would be like SUPER old, but just going off the idea that some jedi masters can live beyond the expected life span of their species with the Force (so just assume thatâs the case)
Star Wars headcanonâs part 3
no order 66 au + clone wars continuing au
fun idea!
in a star wars alternate universe where the clone wars go on for way longer, the war has lasted so long that it's become almost impossible for new battalions to come up with original armor colors. basically every color has already been claimed, so it gets harder and harder to be creative.
so instead, battalions start using two or even three colors on their armor instead of just one!
and! since some of the padawans who served as commanders have now become knights and are leading battalions of their own, their new battalions inherit the colors of their masters' platoons. then, once they take on a padawan of their own, they add that padawan's chosen color to the armor as well.
visual example!
master billaba's battalion wears green. when caleb dume / kanan jarrus is knighted, master billaba splits off part of her battalion to become caleb's own, so they keep the green armor. then, when caleb takes ezra as his padawan, they add a second color to the armor: orange.
spitballing some other fun color combinations and squads!
knight ahsoka tano â orange/blue (basically painted like the 332nd)
knight cal kestis â blue/yellow or orange/yellow
yoda / padawan luke skywalker â red/green or blue/green
obi-wan kenobi / padawan leia organa â purple/gold or gray/gold
canât think of any padawan/master relationships right now but basically just fun idea to have a color combo clone battalion!
Lyco and Ventress were such an iconic duo and I think it was absolutely criminal that Tales of the Underworld gave us approximately 40 minutes of them, so here is a thing I wrote because I need more of them.
Rain was pouring down on the windows outside the ship, thick sheets that coated the glass so that the entire landscape outside was a blurred, unintelligible mess. Ventress liked the rain. She always had. Despite the occasional thunder and flashes of lightning, she found the sound comforting, groundingâwhich was why she was currently sitting in the cockpit of her ship, feet propped up on the dash and a holonovel in hand. Relaxation was a concept foreign to her, but she tried all the same. Meditation was her preferred method, and the one most beneficial, but her connection to the Light side of the Force was not yet strong enough for her to feel confident in her ability to meditate. So when meditation was too difficult, she would read instead. She had just turned back to her page when a pattering of footsteps sounded through the ship. Before Ventress could turn her head, Lyco was bursting into the cockpit, dripping water into puddles on the floor. Nevertheless, he wore a smile large enough to reach across the whole length of his face. âYouâre going to have to clean all that water up,â said Ventress as she read a paragraph. âAnd go changeâyouâll catch a cold.â âGeez. You sound like one of those moms in those holodramas you watch when you think Iâm not looking.â Lyco dropped into the other seat, ignoring Ventressâs instructions. âI saw one of those bears.â Ventress sat up and set down her holonovel, suddenly very attentive. âYou did?â Lyco nodded, the grin still on his face. âUh-huh. It was huge!â He punctuated the words by throwing out his arms in an approximation of the size. âProbably taller than you and me combined. It was sitting in one of the trees, staring at me with its giant purple eyes.â âDid it hurt you?â asked Ventress, eyes boring into Lycoâs. He squirmed. âNo. Iâm fine. You donât need to worry about me.â âMaybe I wouldnât worry about you if you werenât so kriffing reckless,â scolded Ventress. âYou could have been hurt, or eaten, and I wouldnât have even known.â She raised her brows and Lyco slid forward in his chair, shoulders hunched and expression guilty. âDo not do that again, understand.â âYeah. Yeah, I understand.â Good. Lyco got up and walked out of the cockpit, muttering a very, very quiet, âmomâ under his breath. Ventress nodded sharply and returned to her book.
