If you ever tagged me to do one of those tag game thingies and I never did it:
1) Thank you, seriously. Those are fun and being included shows that my followers care enough to want to learn more about me.
2) Very sorry about that, it’s extremely likely that I said to myself “Cool! But I’m busy at the moment, I’ll have to do this later today or tomorrow” before proceeding to just straight-up forget, now it’s too far back in my notifications and/or your blog to find again.
drawings are secretly the enemy because they start off very nice and unassuming but then when they're about 80% done they start emanating a malevolent aura that makes finishing them the scariest activity you can imagine
Vulcans have always annoyed the shit out of me* because 1. it is not possible for an organism to have perfect logic or behave perfectly logically/rationally; this would require access to more information than any individual organism can have 2. it is paradoxically extraordinarily illogical to dismiss others who you perceive as behaving illogical/irrationally/"emotionally," if what you are trying to do is interact with others effectively 3. i feel pissed that I'm like "these star trek aliens who were written to be logical beings are actually written to be almost definitionally Not That" because it feels honestly farcically autistic of me to feel that way as passionately as I do
the hypermasculine version of "logic," as considered by 20th/21st usamerican standards, is actually VERY illogical if you assume that our societal goals ought to be interacting and communicating with each other as effectively as possible to ensure minimally detrimental outcomes for the smallest possible number of individuals. that requires compassion and an ability to set ego aside. as well as many other skills which are not just Not Encouraged by this society, but in fact often actively punished.
GRISPING GENE RODDENBERRY BY THE SHIRT COLLAR AND STARING INTO HIS EYES
*as someone capable of using past experiences to inform future possibilities, I beg star trek nerds not to 'well actually' me on this one based on various Explorations Of Vulcan Culture which have happened in the last several decades. i am approaching this from a doylist rather than watsonian perspective and I am intentionally using the Concept of Vulcans as created by white American men in the mid 20th century
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like later iterations of Vulcans after TOS suggest that they aren't inherently logical, that they're actually super emotional, but decided that was cringe as a species(!) and teach their children how to preform their socially expected version of logic at a young age. So like, Vulcans as a society of masking autists is pretty close to the cannonical truth.

Movement nudge, hand mobility! 🙌
X
1) do this even if you're under 40. seriously. I definitely should have been doing something like this for years and I only turned 40 a month and a half ago
2) if you're like me just now trying this going "oh god i've only done 15 and i think my hands are cramping" start lower than 30 and increase by 5 once whatever number you're doing no longer makes your hand cramp up. I can manage about 15 per exercise at the moment.
If you're hypermobile, be especially gentle.
It's that time of year again Americans! That's right, surprise illegal explosion week!
can everyone get woke again. I miss her. I miss woke.
and by woke I mean aware of racism. the original meaning. don't do stupid bullshit here. woke = aware of racism . ok
it means to stay aware of Anti Black Racism specifically, this is a term made by black people to talk about the injustices we go through, please please remember this. its anti black racism
holy shit okay may have found a game-changer for web searches...with duckduckgo it's easy to turn off the ai features permanently, but regardless of engine there's the increasing problem of the search results themselves leading mostly to ai-generated articles on random ghost websites that say a lot without any information, and then the information they do give is contradictory or otherwise just wrong. this is especially a problem for me when trying to search for, e.g., a current list of the best products in a certain category.
finally searched for a solution and there IS in fact a giant hand-curated list of sites containing this content. it can be imported to ublock origin on desktop or mobile, and even can be used on iOS via the ublacklist extension in the safari app. it's updated regularly, and importing via the link as described should allow those updates to go into effect automatically.
i've only tested it a little bit, but after importing the list and repeating my duckduckgo search for backpack recommendations, my top results now lead to websites that appear to be linked to actual organizations in some form, with an "about us" page and the name of a founder and everything. the text is still often a bit wordy and SEO-optimized, but it now has actual recommendations that are relevant to the query. BIG IF TRUE???
please do not start talking about The Definition Of Art on this post, or Whether Human Creations Have Souls. i am very tired.
once I added this it took me 15 minutes to find a backpack that met my needs and order it with free shipping. I feel reborn
Fantasy setting where the more sapient you sure the less vulnerable to demonic infestation you are. Bacteria and viruses are actually totally fine normally, except that they are so mindless that they are vectors for possession. More "simple" animals like worms and snails are almost always possessed, they just can't get up to very many nefarious deeds so it's fine. Human birth pretty much always requires an adventuring party on hand in case the baby gets possessed in the womb.
They'd likely have warding magic around pregnant people in order to prevent pre-birth possession.
Sure but unless you imprison her for 9 months, a woman is going to walk about! Plus most people don't even know they're pregnant for almost 2 entire months. If bacteria are easily possessed, the bundle of cells that is a first trimester pregnancy is very easy too
Got really into thinking about this and wanted to add/ask some things, ignore this if you this sort of thing annoying!
A world in which possessed babies are a natural part of life, but this hasn't resulted in a common way of protecting the people effected is probably a pretty horrible place. Society is usually motivated to protect or control people who can give birth.
If a person can avoid getting pregnant in a setting like this, why wouldn't they? How is society either supporting or forcing them into this dangerous event? You mentioned adventuring parties, how are those sourced? Are they paid for? Volunteer? What happens if you're poor or unpopular?
Lots of footholds for misogyny and eugenics in a world where "sapience"; how does the setting defend against or embrace these possibilities? If this is a fantasy setting with adventuring guilds, are there non-human sentient species? Does the statistical likelihood of infection stay equal across those species, or vary? If it varies, how does that effect politics in the world?
On another note, the setting could be all in on possessed babies. Like possessed babies have a really high value, so we let this horribly dangerous thing happen to tap that resource. Also possibly incredibly fucked up, depending on how they use the possessed babies.
Whenever a character has cute little head wings, I always find myself imagining the tiny little arm bones inside those wings. How fragile they would be. How hard it would be to sleep comfortably. Tiny little head arms.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.
There's this thing I never realized I did when I was doing it that I like to think of as "Ownership of Space"
And it's that thing where you mentally place yourself as the second, auxiliary party to someone else that you consider to be "In Charge" of whatever space or occupation or responsibility you are assigned to
And when you are IN that mindset, it *feels* like you're being responsible. It *feels* like you're being respectful, and helpful, and contributing to the load.
But what you don't SEE- because it *feels* like deference- is that the other person who you're seeing as The Authority you report to- by being assigned that role, has also been assigned the invisible load of BEING YOUR MANAGER.
This is by FAR most commonly seen in husband-and-wife relationships, where the man says, "just tell me what I can do to HELP- you don't have to do it all by yourself, but it's like you won't even tell me when you NEED help. You just do everything and then get mad at me for not doing it first. I can help clean. I can help with the kids. I can help"
But I also see it- and am guilty myself of doing it- at work, at school, in public- that mental, "this is THEIR space, and i will be respectful and helpful to THEM"- without realizing that subservience in this manner isn't actually a good thing. That it actually shifts the burden of responsibility to the other person. That aspect was totally invisible to me.
I didn't understand that when I was told, "if you see something that needs to be done, just DO it", or, "take the initiative", what they ACTUALLY meant was, "I am not above you", or "you have equal say in what kind of environment you want to live or work in", or "I do not want full control over what happens here, I do not want to order you around, I do not want to be in charge, what I WANT is to co-command WITH you"
Being in The Assigned Authority position NOW, that is all so much clearer.
I am the senior member of my team at work, and now, every time I train a newbie, every time I finish catching them up to speed and giving them a list of everything that needs to be done, my next big hurdle seems to always be, "now take pride in the space when I'm not around". "Now don't assume I'll tell you when something is due or what orders to plan things in".
Now, having been on both sides of the struggle, I can appreciate the sticking points here
TO THE PERSON "IN CHARGE": The person deferring to you doesn't understand the invisible labor you're doing. They genuinely believe you know more, you WANT more, you see things they don't, and that they are being respectful and good by staying out of your way and waiting on your orders. THAT is the bit that's not clicking.
TO THE PERSON "WANTING TO HELP": "Help" implies that you are providing assistance to a problem that belongs to somebody else. Stop thinking like that. Understand that the problem belongs to BOTH of you equally, and consider what kind of shared space you BOTH want. What is your SHARED GOAL? Not THEIR goal, but a goal that belongs to you too. Own your space.
This is not a Commander-Lieutenant problem. This is a Partnership problem.
You Are Co-Commanders On This Ship
