the way the rooftop scene is played as almost matrimonial in a sense always drives me insane. you have walt and jesse saying “gus had to go” as some sort of fucked up vows to one another. and you can tell jesse is filled with uncertainty, the way he glances at walt for confirmation. did he really have to go? and of course he did because he was the middle man between walt and jesse, and how could walt ever allow that? he needs jesse on his team and his team alone. gus had to go for no other reason than he was a foil for walt and jesse to be together. and the handshake! the way they just grasp onto each other’s arms and tug them back and forth. this is their reunion, this is the solidification of their partnership once more, no outliers. and i think about what vince gilligan said on the commentary “they want to hug each other but they just can’t” a lot because the last time they hugged in the show was when jesse was sobbing in walt’s arms about jane’s death, someone walt inadvertently killed because she too was a foil for him and jesse to be together. it just shows us that this is the way walt loves, possessively and with a death-grip. his love for jesse is primal in the sense that he physically cannot bear the idea of him leaving him. he holds out his hand as almost a question “will you be mine again?” and the way jesse doesn’t hesitate for second and just grabs on. even when the camera zooms out, you can still see them just holding hands and it hurts so bad because you know walt is going to ruin him once again and jesse is walking straight into his trap because who else does he have? who else is going to love him as much as mr. white?

"Mr. Whi-?" A hand was suddenly clasped around his mouth, eyes widening in a confusing mix of excitement and terror. Jesse stepped back, trying to evade the hand, but Mr. White easily followed him, getting him absolutely nowhere. He opened his mouth, sticking out his tongue and swiping it in one long, slow, stroke across Mr. White's palm, hoping to gross him out or some shit, but instead the hand squeezed his cheeks roughly, almost in punishment.
Jesse was horrified at the almost-whimper he let out in response.
When Mr. White spoke the sound travelled through him, the rough rumble moving up his spine in a slow, molten slither, between the gaps of his vertebrae and nestling deep into his brain.
"Now Jesse," that condescending lilt did wonderful, confusing things to him, heart rate spiking in response, "I have been patient with you, truly I have, and you've done nothing to show your appreciation for it. Considering how immature and childish you've been acting today, I think I deserve an apology. Wouldn't you agree?"
guys I had more Ideas over the weekend, my favorite of which is Jesse taking Walt out to a surprise dinner for his birthday (just wear something fancy Mr. White, no I'm not telling you what we're doing cause that would ruin the surprise) and them getting kicked out of a super fancy restaurant for drinking too much and swearing and laughing too loud, and Jesse getting out of the taxi they both have to take because they're too drunk and calling after Walt before he's at his door, Walt turning around with a dopey smile on his face cause he'll still drunk as hell, and Jesse going up to him with the most serious expression and yanking him in by his collar and giving him a long kiss followed by a whispered "happy birthday, asshole" and Walt being so shocked he just stands there and watches the taxi long after it's turned the corner and disappeared from view.
by the time he comes to his senses, he rubs his face with his hands and has to blink hard a couple of times because whatever just happened doesn't seem real. pinches the bridge of his nose and gets a jolt down his spine, and mutters a stunned "what." because his slow ass just realized that Jesse essentially took him out on a fucking date. a birthday date, fancy restaurant, drinks, walked him to the door and gave him a fucking kiss before retreating into the night, before Walt could put the pieces together, before his actions could have consequences.
neither of them slept that night. they both stared at their phones, thought of the person who was only a phone call away, but for all intents and purposes could have been on the other side of the world.

So I'm writing this fic where Walt visits Alaska!Jesse 5 years after his death as a ghost, and at first Jesse does a good job of seeming to not give a shit about Walt, dismissing him, not paying him attention, etc. All is fine and dandy until Walt shows up when he hasn't gotten dressed yet, only in a pair of plaid pajama pants, and notices a new tattoo along his hipbone, one that certainly wasn't there when Walt was alive. Since Jesse keeps moving around and talking animatedly with his hands, it's hard to get a good look at it, since it's so small, but eventually Walt just tells him to stop really loud and since it shocks Jesse so much, he stops dead in his tracks. And that's when he finally realizes what the ink is.
