An otyugh's stomach lining is one of the ugliest materials a tailor could work with. It feels permanently damp and it smells of vinegar and dried herbs. Yet the Gastric Carapace is exactly the kind of armor that saves your life when a black dragon spews acid or a stinking cavern chokes the rest of the party with noxious gases. The hide, incredibly tough and pliable, naturally softens caustic burns, secretes a digestive enzyme that melts thick undergrowth and caltrops into smooth paste beneath your feet, and vents a poisonous miasma that keeps anything unlucky enough to stand too close regretting its choices.

Blazing Skillet Weapon (mace), Rare (requires attunement)

Marta Veld traveled the continent in search of new flavors, driven by one question on every quest: What does it taste like? A fire elemental bound within this thick cast-iron pan maintains a perfect searing heat without ever burning the hand that holds it, always ready to finish a cut of dragon steak or cave bear flank between encounters. Although Marta is long gone, the skillet still sizzles faintly when drawn, cooks without wood or flame, and preserves whatever is placed inside for a long time.

Druid Subclass: Circle of the Gourmand

Most druids protect the balance of nature through peaceful guardianship. The Circle of the Gourmand believes that the most intimate way to honor the wild is to participate in its most fundamental cycle: consumption.

These druids look at a fallen monstrosity and see nothing but a five-course meal. Rather than using Wild Shape to transform into a typical beast, they prepare the remains of slain aberrations, dragons, and beasts into elaborate primal dishes. By consuming these meals, they absorb the creatures' essence, mutating their own bodies to manifest terrifying traits. All the while, they serve as the personal chef of your adventuring party, nourishing them with the spoils of your latest hunt.

The dungeon is your personal pantry, and every combat encounter is an opportunity to gather ingredients for your next recipe. Which monster would you like to taste first?

Feat: Beastbinder

Some creatures are too valuable, too dangerous, or too interesting to simply put down. This feat is for hunters who need their quarry exactly where they left it, scaling nets up to Huge creatures, letting you anchor a target to the spot it was standing when you hit it, and ensuring anything trying to fly or burrow its way free gets yanked straight back into place. The bigger the monster, the more satisfying the catch.

Built for both D&D 5e and the 2024 (D&D 5.5e) rules, it pairs naturally with the Monster Trapper or any hunter who knows that a creature you can't control is a creature you can't loot.

Rogue Subclass: Monster Trapper

Most rogues lurk in the shadows and wait for the perfect opening. The Monster Trapper already set three traps before you walked into the room.

Harvesting what you hunt and turning it into something useful has always been one of those ideas that feels like it should be core to D&D but rarely gets the mechanics to back it up. Inspired by the hunting culture and crafting in Monster Hunter and the practical, no-waste mindset of Dungeon Meshi, the Monster Trapper crafts mantles from freshly harvested hides to vanish into a creature's own territory, sets traps that restrain, ignite, or paralyze, and brews alchemical concoctions that lure predators, swallow the field in smoke, or paint a target so it can never truly escape from you. By the time your quarry knows it is being hunted, you already own the ground beneath its feet.

The wilderness is your workshop. Everything that falls in it is your next upgrade. What hide would your Monster Trapper be wearing right now?

Species: Chronal Dragonborn

We already have chromatic, metallic, and gem dragonborns in D&D 5e, so it was definitely about "time" to bring a time dragonborn ancestry into the game.

Chronal dragonborn trace their bloodline to the enigmatic time dragons, acting as ageless servants of the draconic god of fate, time, and judgment, Null, better known by his neutral aspect, Chronepsis the Watcher. Instead of the vibrant colors of their cousins, these dragonborns bear faded scales of pale grey, ashen white, and silver. They carry an eerie patience and a quiet certainty, acting as if the flow of time worked differently through their bodies and allowing them to pluck at the strands of destiny to alter immediate outcomes.

The Patrician's Watch Wondrous Item, Rare (requires attunement)

A noble father had this golden pocket watch commissioned for his perpetually late son because the idea of his heir apologizing for anything was simply unacceptable. The watch ticks with a rhythm that openly disrespects the normal flow of time, adjusting itself to the convenience of its owner as if punctuality were a problem for people with less important schedules. When initiative is rolled, you can borrow a handful of seconds from someone else's turn and add it to your own because your time is, objectively, more valuable.

Sorcerer Subclass: Privileged Lineage

Dragons and demons are fine, I guess, but some sorcerers are born into a much older and more terrifying power: generational wealth. The Privileged Lineage is a nepo baby spellcaster who trace their magic to a very generous trust fund and a parent who owns a small plane of existence who has never told them no.

Where the Corporate Ladder Barbarian subclass I posted a while back finally snapped under fluorescent lights, this sorcerer thrives in them. They treat adventuring like an extended internship they are already overqualified for and a lifetime of unearned confidence that somehow keeps working. Consequences are for other people.

This is a joke subclass made for urban one-shots and modern settings, the kind of character you roll up when the table needs a villain who thinks they are the hero but behaves like the worst person in the room.

So tell me, what is the most absurdly privileged backstory you can cook up? Are they the scion of an interplanar banking empire?
