My first ever surfing experience happened at La Union. It was my dream to dance with the waves back then. I was inspired by the movie Soul Surfer (2011), it is about a surfer (Bethany Hamilton) who loses an arm in a shark attack. Surfing is her passion that’s why nothing can stop her even surfing with one arm. Kudos to you, Bethany!

La Union Facts
It is the nearest surf spot in Metro Manila
Its best waves are from October to April. (Peak Season)
It is famous to the world surfing circuit
La Union is the Spanish term for “the union”
If you’re planning to visit La Union, you can avail tour packages or go for a DIY trip.
Here’s a sample Do-It-Yourself trip:
The best way to start a DIY trip is to convince your friend to use their car! HAHA! You can rent a van/car going to La Union, or if you have a car then, that’s good.

This is the only 5-start hotel-resort in Northern Luzon, Philippines. You can add this as a filler to your trip. Enjoy the scenic view and don’t forget to take pictures!
Tangadan Falls
La Union is not just about surfing, Trekking and Cliff Diving is what you can experience if you go to Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel.
Note : Hire a guide if you’re new to this kind of adventure.

Flotsam and Jetsam – A lot of people say that this is the best place however we haven’t have a good time here. Try at your own risk. HAHA! >.<
Halo-Halo de Iloko – A must try restaurant! Interiors were very Instagrammable and food tastes great. It is famous for its Buko Halo-Halo dessert.

BALER is very popular when it comes to surfing. If you’re just a beginner, Sabang Beach is really a great place for YOU!
I am sharing our itinerary for a 2D1N trip to Baler. How we conquered the waves and alluring places there!
2D1N Baler Itinerary
Day 01 – Saturday 0100am – ETD Manila to Aurora 0630am – ETA at Aurora / Balete tree 0700am – Baler town for Breakfast 0800am – Start of tour: -Hanging Bridge -Ermita Hill -Tromba Marina Statue -Baler Fishport -Diguisit Rock Formation 1200nn – Lunch : Yolly’s (Try their Sinigang and Sisig) 0130pm – Resume tour: -Ditumabo (Mother) Falls (trekking and swimming) 0400pm – proceed to Sabang Beach for surfing lessons, swimming and sunset viewing 0600pm – Dinner : Hungry Surfer (Php 200.00 – Buffet)
Day 02 – Sunday 0430am – Wake-up call for sunrise watching at Ampere Beach 0600am – Back to lodge for Breakfast o Swimming for 2-3hrs at Sabang Beach 1100am – Back to lodge for check out -Proceed to Baler Church, Museo de Baler, Dona Aurora’s Ancestral House 1200nn – Lunch : Gerry Shan’s Place (A MUST TRY!) 0100pm – Visit Souvenir shop and Pasalubong center (Nanay Pacing’s Pasalubong Center) 0300pm – ETD Aurora to Manila 0900pm – ETA at Manila

Millennium Tree (Balete Tree)
The Millennium Tree (also known as The Balete Tree) is the Largest Tree in Asia. YES! You read it right, LARGEST. A normal shot wouldn’t capture the beauty of this one, panorama feature will do.
We are so blessed to have 3 locals to guide us seize the moment for FREE. (too sad we didn’t have time to have a groupie with them.)

View of the “hottest” Hanging Bridge in Baler. You’ll enjoy walking back and forth under the sun. Show some skin and get tanned! LOL.

Diguisit Beach is popular because of its simplicity. It has incredible rock formations that you can jump from one rock to another. You can also see the Aniao Islets from behind.

Ditumabo Falls (Mother Falls) is the best place to escape from STRESS! It is one of the major attractions and considered as the biggest among all waterfalls in Baler that’s why it is called as “Mother Falls”. Trekking + Swimming + Foodtrip (KweKwek, Hotdog and UNLI Lugaw–which you can see along the way) = REAL FUN!
See the sun now bursting through the clouds, Black and white turns to color all around…
Who wouldn’t be amazed by this kind if morning? NO ONE! I really admire the stunning view in Ampere Beach. It’s like you’re on a romantic movie, the feeling is “nakakakilig”.
Sabang Beach of Baler, is the birthplace of surfing in the Philippines. If you’re looking for white sand beaches this is not it, but mind you It has one of the best fine sand I’ve ever encountered. Also, Surfing Instructors are really nice and great. They will bring out the best in YOU! :D
I heart Museo de Baler! This is our last stop before going back to Manila. It has different historical artifacts of Baler. You can have your photo sesh here, go for an “aura” shot. PAK!
