Posting some thoughts on this on here because instagram isn’t the place I put thoughts.

While for me there wasn’t a subtle transition of thoughts like the above quote implies. I remember the day this year, I think it was the 6th of August, when I was visiting a close friend who has moved far away with some other uni friends who I don’t see often. We were supermarket shopping (which I find really taxing) when I just broke down and started crying because my thoughts were suddenly no longer that the world would be better off without me and I was a huge burden who screwed everything up but that I wanted to live, I wanted to live. I was crying because I wanted to live and it was so hard, I didn’t know how to live.

I don’t know particularly what changed from one day to the next to change my perspective from better off dead. I do know I stopped giving so much energy to people who repeatedly hurt me, recognised how hard my internal voice was being on myself and that I would never treat anyone else that way and started taking note of when that happened. I also really threw myself into being focused at work and not letting my personal life be involved and asking any and every question I could to try and understand things, because if I was going to kill myself it didn’t matter if I screwed up and looked stupid (side note: since doing this works improved and seemingly no one things I’m stupid?)

Also significantly, because I was in such a bad place with food it became really easy to tell which foods made my body feel better (carrots, dried fruit, celery, lettuce) and which made me feel like I had less energy (crisps, certain pizzas, garlic bread, biscuits) so I started often eating the good foods and cutting down on the bad. Also that good sleep made an insane difference to my mental state, but that also included just staying awake if I woke up within two hours of the time I needed to get up because that two hours going back to sleep would involve some exhausting unsettling dreams.

I know that treating my thyroid condition has made a major difference. Even on too low a dose, the first week of taking it I felt like super woman. Suddenly I could do anything and it was amazing. When that wore off I was worried I was never going to have energy again but the right dose (which I started taking just after august) has made a huge difference. I can now skip a meal and not immediately crash out. (My coworkers would keep telling me to sit down because I’d turn grey which actually would have been really useful for Halloween).

It turns out having energy is incredibly important for being able to function as a real human (who knew?) , and on top of medically having no energy because of undiagnosed thyroid (I’m not exactly sure when it happened but I didn’t have another period after January 2022 and august to September 2022 I lost 10 kg so something was up) I was pushing myself to always be social, always do things because otherwise I was letting someone down. Now I’m on the right dose, the only things I allow myself to be super hard on myself about are not eating and sleeping properly (in the last 3 weeks I’ve actually been happy and it turns out when I get happy I throw self care out the window) I’m finding it easier to do a lot of things (supermarkets take me out still, but we’ll get there) I’m still working on making time for myself, steps have been taken but it’s the hardest thing to shift.

But the year is looking better and I want to live, it’s okay for me to live .

My deepest darkest fantasy is that I collapse on the street and I am rushed to the hospital. They perform a bunch of tests and find out I am severely deficient in some kind of vitamin. Then I start taking the vitamin and I become the happiest cleverest person alive because all my problems were caused by this one deficiency

Considering I’ve had this (although rather then being rushed to hospital it was several calls to 111 who would say go immediately to your gp and then my gp who’d turn around and say nah can’t see anything, repeat) it is a good fantasy.

I feel like a lot of people don’t quite get what a butler is. The role tends to get rounded off to ‘male servant’ pretty regularly in some media, whereas actually butlers are typically not just servants but chief servants. The butler was generally in charge of either all male servants or just all servants, period, in the household of an aristocrat or other very wealthy person. This meant that butlers have often been fairly powerful and influential people, and sometimes even had a manservant or two of their own.

(Also, fun fact: Mary Roberts Rinehart, the early 20th century mystery writer who is widely credited with popularizing the whole ‘the butler did it’ trope was nearly murdered by one of her own servants, a chef whom she had passed over for promotion to butler. He came at her with a pistol, but it jammed, allowing her chauffeur time to wrestle it away and restrain him.)

I just. I just… i have discovered something. And I have laughed too much. I have laughed every time I have tried to explain it to someone. I cannot get through this.

There are two things you need to know, here.

First: There’s a style of Greek pottery that was popular during the Hellenic period, for which most of the surviving examples are from southern Italy. We call them ‘fish plates’ because, well, they’re plates, and they’re decorated with fish (and other marine life).

They’re very cool. We’re not 100% sure what they were for, because most of the surviving ones were found as grave goods, but that’s a different post.

The second thing you need to know is that when we (Classics/archaeology/whatever as a discipline) have a collection of artefacts, like vases, sculptures, paintings, etc. and we do not know the name of the artist, but we’re pretty sure one artist made X, Y and Z artefacts, we come up with a name for that artist. There are a whole bunch of things that could be the source for the name, e.g. where we found most of their work (The Dipylon Master) or the potter with whom they worked (the Amasis Painter), a favourite theme (The Athena Painter), the Museum that ended up with the most famous thing they did (The Berlin Painter) or a notable aspect of their style. Like, say, The Eyebrow Painter.

Ouran High School Host Club Needs a Season 2!!!

Ok guys, I don’t know how many Anime fans there are out there, but I’m sure there are a lot. Hopefully you will all see this. 

I recently finished watching Ouran High School Host Club. This needs a season two. There are SO MANY unanswered questions, and so many things that could be done. I don’t know how the heck we are going to survive without another season

ok, so bear with me for a moment here. Here’s my reasoning: If enough people re-post this, and more people re-post of of them etc, etc, MAYBE it will eventually reach someone who is capable of making a season two. It can happen guys, especially if you post on different social media sites.

AND

If you try to find the contact info of the actors and stuff, MAYBE they can convince whoever managed the english dub to convince the original artist to do another season.

I know this is kindof a long shot, but it can happen if we try! It really needs another season, there’s no way this can just be left hanging. Let’s make it happen guys!!
