"Hey Adora."
So I binge watched all of She-ra in like a week and made a thing.
I made @mctreeleth's simplified plague doctor mask because I can't stand masks that are close to my mouth or nose. My stitching is terrible because I didn't have the right needle or thread for the fabric, so I might stitch over that later. Here is the link to the full quilted plague doctor mask, which includes the simplified pattern.
Here it is! The instructions to make a pieced and quilted plague doctor mask! Just as a heads up, this pattern is not really recommended for

So. Today in class we assigned Macbeth roles to students to read. When I asked the class who wants to be Lady Macbeth, a young man raised his hand. I kind of stared at him like “Lady Macbeth,” and he nodded like “I know what I’m about ma’am.” So then the student who ended up as Macbeth raised his hand and said “HE’S THE ONE, HE’S MY WIFE!” So I said “yeah sure why not,” and the entire class period they were blowing kisses to each other and winking at each other, and every now and then Macbeth would say “I’m the luckiest man on Earth” and Lady Macbeth would put a hand to his chest, and be like “BABE!”.
I just stared at them, knowing that they CLEARLY have never read ‘Macbeth’ before, so… all this lovey dovey… I don’t know if I have the heart to tell them the truth.
Update:
Macbeth is absolutely willing to fucking throw down for Lady Macbeth. Has already threatened a wall, a desk, a few students, a textbook that was neither his nor Lady Macbeth’s, and me
Lady Macbeth is enjoying the attention and has begun to use this new connection to his advantage. I’m starting to suspect he’s read ahead in the play.
Macbeth is going to end up living in detention at this rate.
Macbeth has no idea that he is the tragedy of the story. Claims to be the hero of the play, fails to see the irony in this
Macbeth slowly scooted his desk across the classroom to hold hands with Lady Macbeth. He was not subtle.
Macbeth has proposed on several occasions. Lady Macbeth just laughs and says they’re already married.
Macbeth’s girlfriend is in the class with them and is “totally not jealous or anything just thinks this whole fucking play is a waste of time”
Lady Macbeth should probably be a theatre major at some point, he fucking rocked Act V scene I
Other teachers and staff are emailing me about the “lovely lords”. Lady Macbeth now refuses to answer to anything other than Lady Macbeth and is always very upset when people don’t call him by his proper title.
WorldRugby Haka time at the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 semi-final
i like how they must have said to the white menbers at some point “yeah becky yall gon do this too get up we all have to learn”
Actually most New Zealanders (white and non white) learn this as children at school and with their friends. Like Kiwi culture’s really a mix of indigenous and non-indigenous elements so there’s not that much cultural segregation as you would have in the states
I’m white as a chicken and mayo sandwich and I learned two or three haka at school. If I’d joined the kapa haka group it would have been more and certainly wouldn’t have been the only white person doing so.
#also if I was the opposite team I would be “WELL WE ARE FUCKED :)”
That is 1000% the point of the Haka. Here’s a really good explanation of it.
I’ve never seen women doing the Haka before and holy shit I’m in love
The Star Wars Wiki says, “While C-3PO underwent a memory wipe, R2-D2 was allowed to preserve his memories.” And I am delighted, because 1) I was pretty sure this was the case, but couldn’t remember exactly (R2 is a conniving sneak and I was pretty sure it wouldn’t have worked even if anyone had been foolish enough to try), and 2) this means one of my favorite Star Wars headcanons is actually canon.
It means that during that one scene in Empire Strikes Back, these two assholes know EXACTLY who the other one is.
You are decorated war veterans, you absolute trolls.
Yoda had 20 plus years to prep for this moment and this is probably what he picked on like the second day
Yoda had 20 plus years to prep for this moment and this is probably what he picked on like the second day <- Holy shit, this is the truest thing I’ve ever read. That is absolutely what he did.
Also, I have a couple of things I want to clarify on this post.
Because of the Luke and R2 exchange right before they land on Dagobah, when Luke is explaining that they’re going to find Yoda, an old Jedi Master, and R2 appears to be like, “whomst??” I now hold the headcanon that while R2 knew who Yoda was, he didn’t actually know Yoda’s name. So when they got down to Dagobah, R2 was absolutely like, “OH SHIT, IT’S YOU. HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL ALIVE, GIVE ME BACK THE FLASHLIGHT, WHY DOES NO LISTEN TO ME, BACK OFF YOU GREEN SOCK, I’LL FINISH THE JOB MYSELF, I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AROUND HERE.”
And since droid rights are absolute shit, for R2, when I say “decorated war veteran”, I’m not referring to medals. (Although Anakin absolutely made medals for his droid too, because R2 was there and did, like, ALL the work.) I’m referring to arrest warrants.
Most of R2’s memory is called The Shit List (With Receipts), with file folders on some of the galaxy’s most notorious and significant figures. Yoda has three folders. Anakin/Vader has five. So does Obi-Wan. The person with the most folders is Threepio (Designation: Useless Husband), bc R2 has never really let an argument go in his life. The only person who doesn’t have a shit list is BB-8, who has Never Done A Blessed Thing Wrong In Her Life. (R2 can and will fight you.)
if anyone outside of tumblr ever asks me what it’s like to have a semi-popular blog I’m going to tell them about the time I made a post that SIMPLY AND CLEARLY ONLY said I like how hotels smell like pools and that I feel peaceful walking through their hallways and it literally branched into three very confusing discussions that are STILL going to this day, years later, which are:
pool employees Very Aggressively informing me that being able to smell a pool means chlorine levels are too high and I shouldn’t like that
hotel employees Very Aggressively telling me hotels aren’t peaceful for THEM and I should be more considerate of them when I say I find hotels peaceful
people??? angrily explaining to me that any time I’m in a hotel there is probably a victim of human trafficking in one of the rooms so I shouldn’t romanticize hotels.
and that about sums up any experience I’ve had with a post that gets too many notes tbh it’s probably best if everyone would stop reblogging my posts forever
Reblogging solely to comment that I also like how hotels smell like pools.

guns labeled “sword”
being better than anything shakespeare ever produced
i dislike the implication that shakespeare wouldn’t have done the exact same thing if he were alive in the 90′s
Fun fact, the guns being labelled “sword” is not just them being Extra™.
Most of the guns being used by the main characters are modified Taurus PT99 pistols, the different types of which are often named after specific types of knives and swords, thus enabling them to not have to change the Shakespearean dialogue, but to also manage that specific visual pun.
So Shakespeare would have absolutely been 100% all over that shit.
For example, Tybalt’s gun is a modified 9mm “Rapier” (from the Taurus PT99 Series ‘R’) and is actually one of my favorite visual aesthetics of quite probably any weapon in movie history to date.
While everyone else seems to be using a much more heavier and “powerful” version of pistol, his is sleek and light in frame, making it much easier for him to fight the way that he does. Which is undoubtedly Extra™ in comparison to everyone else, but also intended to mimic the dueling stance of actual rapier swordsmen of the time who relied on speed rather than brute force. They were Gentlemen after all. If you were going to cut someone down you ought to do it with some finesse.
If you look closely at his hand you’ll notice that with the exception of his middle finger on the trigger, he’s actually holding it the way one would a sword hilt. He’s also got the poise of a honed duelist.
This is someone who has been brought up with a very strong sense of Family Honor, and is expected to fight to defend it, but not as a common foot soldier (who carry “longswords” which are modified shotguns in the film), but as a Gentleman.
A gentleman who suddenly finds himself having to fight in the streets with people carrying “daggers”.
Like Mercutio’s modified pistol, which while beautiful and (importantly thematic) transparent in its function, is also heavy and cumbersome in comparison to Tybalt’s rapier, which also has a much further range, something he also makes better use of with the addition of a quick release mount for a c-scope, which allows him to either be slow and accurate, or to forgo accuracy for speed during say, a one on one duel vs a street brawl.
Which means even if he can’t make as many quickfire short range movements as Mercutio can, he’s still going to fucking obliterate him with the practiced ease of someone who has been training for duels their entire life.
Not to mention just how fucking ornate this thing is. Look at it. What an extra little sob, I love it. I love the whole movie. It’s an excellent adaptation and I’ll bite my thumb at anyone who says otherwise.
When we left the theater after seeing it, my partner asked me that same question about what Shakespeare would think. Then, as now, I think he would have loved it. Elizabethan theater was a popular art form and at it’s best, Shakespeare is deliberately playing to everyone from the drunks standing up front to the toffs in the boxes. he’s competing with vendors and orange girls who weren’t just selling oranges. He’s competing with conversations and possible fist fights or worse. There were none of the modern cues we use to get audiences to shut up, like dimming lights, curtain opening, etc. as they were performing on an open air stage.
Most of his plays are designed specifically to do something attention grabbing in the first scene to get the audience to SHUT UP and Watch. This production does that with noise and action and glorious visuals. It grabbed everyone in the theater, and the production did what the original was meant to do: bring in all walks of life. The showing we went to had as many teens as adults and they were all really enjoying it. As we were leaving, the gaggle of teens in front of us were planning to come back and see it again.
Which was kind of the point. These plays survived because they drew in audiences over and over. They could remount Romeo and Juliet next year and people would want to see it again. Before we labelled them high art and dissected them, they were crowd pleasures full of slang and dirty jokes and swordfights as well as the poetry and characters and themes that gave them staying power. They work best when all those things are still in there and accessible so people can experience all of those things.
This version captures that better than any other Romeo & Juliet I’ve seen. Romeo + Juliet is alive and brash and still grabs me every fucking time. This version is the closest I’m likely to get to what it felt like to watch it the first time, even if the outfits are different and as the poster points out Luhrmann has carefully translated the swords and fighting styles into modern weaponry. I know next to nothing about firearms, but I could see that Tybalt moved right, like a swordsman. I could read the body language in the fights just as clearly.
I still think I’m unlikely to see a version I’ll like better.
Baz Luhrmann has always been staunchly style over substance. But the man KNOWS. HIS. SHIT. when it comes to the style. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and what he wants you to see.
It’s the best version of Romeo and Juliet, and Shakespeare would have been all over it.
There’s plenty of fish in the sea, so they say 😐

I maintain that Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman could have legitimately been nominated for Oscars for Die Hard if the academy weren’t so snobby about action films.
This is amazing acting.
You can actually pinpoint the moment Hans wonders: “Who the fuck am I dealing with here?”
He loses his cool. But just for a second. He recovers quickly.
And, you can tell that, despite all the trauma, John is truly starting to enjoy himself. He’s on an adrenaline rush.
I miss Alan Rickman.
And it was his FIRST ROLE. I mean, DAMN.

sense8 manages to be a bollywood rom com, mexican soap opera, a cop drama, nancy drew hacktivist adventure, nicholas sparks movie, martial arts film, and a german gangster romance while also being a sci-fi mystery, musical and family sitcom all in one show. and somehow i am here for all of it.

i can’t get over how Extra™ the production of Sense8 is
they honestly seem to do everything in the most unnecessary over-complicated and expensive way possible, can’t say the end result isn’t worth it (best show i’ve ever watched) but like:
- they film everything 99% of the time on location, season 2 took 8 months of traveling around the world to get done, the main cast didn’t go home for 4 months straight at some point, they also hire local actors and crews
- talking about traveling, that scene where capheus visits riley when she’s on a plane to iceland? yup, you guessed it, they casually filmed that while they are actually on the plane to iceland
- they also don’t separate, everyone goes together from place to place even if some actors only have a few lines in one location # the sense8 travelling circus
- honestly just the way ‘visiting’ works is so extra, they have to shoot the exact same scene up to 5 times all over the world and then edit it to together in a coherent way, imagine how hard it’s for an actor to repeat a scene in the exact same way they did it 3 months ago in a completely different environment and mood, kudos to them
- this entire post about how the english dialogue for the not english speaking characters is structured will blow your mind
- riley’s opening scene when she’s playing at a club? that is an actual club with normal people not actors, they didn’t know tuppence wasn’t an actual dj, they had her go and pretend to dj in between two actual djs
- that applies for everything else really, if something can be done for reals they do it for reals, you know the scene at the end of season 2 were they all get electrocuted (aka the most stressful thing to watch ever), well, they got themselves electrocuted for reals, no, i’m not shitting you, they had to hire experts to make sure they didn’t accidentally kill themselves or sth, i love this cast but i’m also really concerned
- the wrestling match lito, hernando and dani attend was a real match with a real crowd
- also both pride scene were filmed at actual pride, the brazil pride was improvised except for lito’s speech which lana wrote on their way there, because they found out very last minute that they could actually fit it in the schedule
- the way the cast talk about the show sounds like they’re talking about their newborn baby sometimes like: ‘wolfgang is the biggest gift i’ve ever received in my career’, doona owns more sense8 merch than any fan in the world, freema and jamie crying at the table read when they got to amanita and nomi’s engagement scene as if they were actually getting married, brian’s letter after the cancelation and all their tweets about it, honestly this entire video of them basically talking about how much they love each other is the most extra and adorable thing ever
- the ‘sharing’ scenes are mostly done through stunts and not post-production, the actors actually jump in and out of frame changing places, instead of you know, just editing the scene together afterwards
- they got fined filming the ‘sex-nic’ part of the orgy for public nudity, just sense8 things
- bollywood dance scene? all shot in one take, for no reason other than make it more complicated lol
- the pretty underwater scenes from the christmas special? they went to malta EXCLUSIVELY to shoot those, what?, 3 minutes?, i’d say that was the most expensive montage ever but the fine for public nudity was $10k so idk
- talking about orgies, kind of unrelated but i’m mentioning it anyway bc i can’t believe them, apparently the cast casually goes through life organizing netflix talent orgies? life imitates art?
- they also were in scotland for 9 days for some reason, even though only like 10 minutes of the actual show happen in scotland (i’m guessing this is what happens when u double their budget for s2 lmao)
- max riemelt dubs wolfie in german, also the dude that dubbed V from V for Vendetta dubs The Guy in french, if u gotta be extra don’t forget the details i guess
i’m probs missing a million things so feel free to add more lol
tl,dr: Sense8 is Extra™ and I Love It™
EDIT: apparently the page with the interview where jamie talked about the electrocution scene was changed? if you want proof that i didn’t pull it out of my ass check this thread
EDIT 2: some more that i forgot:
- they celebrate their characters birthday, bc that’s normal and stuff
- lana has a tattoo that says ‘homosensorium’
- they celebrated the s2 wrap up w (brian’s words) ‘the most over the top fireworks display I’ve ever seen’ while ‘what’s up’ played in the background
- in the ‘let’s make everything real for The Art’ department: the scene in berlin on new year’s eve? yup, that was also shoot during //actual new years eve//
My precious babies
fat bodies tutorial!
ALRIGHT SO my pal @kalreyno wanted help with drawing fat characters and as a fat artist i felt like i could give a bit of helpful insight on that. there’s also been a lot of complaining about “boo hoo fat characters are hard to draw so i can’t include them in my work Ever” goin on lately so if that’s your case then this is for you too!! and also just for anyone who would like help with fat bodies in general, ofc. anyway, let’s get this show on the road!!
let’s start with some common misconceptions. these are the two main attempts at chubby bodies i run into, so i’ll focus on them.
the Anime Chubby i see everywhere, and it’s just……so wrong in many ways. first of all, there is almost no additional body fat compared to your average thin character - except for where it’s added in “attractive” places (breasts, hips, thighs). the breasts are way too perky, and don’t have the realistic shape fat would give them (though how to draw accurate breasts is another tutorial all on its own lmao). there is still a thigh gap, which usually only happens in very thin people, and bones are still visible on the surface of the skin, which also rarely happens in fat people.
the Michelin Man is better in some ways, but still not that great. it’s a slightly better attempt, but basically all that’s done there is taking a thin character and blowing them up, while giving no thought to fat distribution. the thigh gap is usually still present, and they look a lot more hard than soft - and fat is very soft and pliable.
here’s a chart on how fat usually distributes (if you can’t read my messy writing, “1. next to no fat, 2. moderate amount, 3. most of the fat distribution”). basically, the more muscle an area has, the more prone it is to develop fat, such as the abdomen, thighs, and upper arms. it’s important to note that fat sits on top of muscle, and that it does distribute in different levels, and not evenly across the body as shown in the Michelin Man.
now, here’s an accurate fat body with all of that kept in mind!! notice how the fat isn’t only kept to aesthetically pleasing areas, and how it sits realistically on the character’s body. their breasts sag a lot more, which happens even in thin people with larger breasts, and the nipples are pointing more downwards than straight out. there is no thigh gap in sight, there are no bones in sight, and most importantly, they have fat rolls, which are very important in drawing a convincing fat character!! as far as i know i’ve never met a single person with no rolls at all, and everyone has them, whether thin or fat - they’re just more prominent and more consistently present in fat people. pay close attention to where they are and how they’re shaped.
here are a couple of drawings showing how fat is affected when sitting vs stretching. as seen in the first, the fat specifically on the stomach is distributed a lot more evenly and stretched out, so it becomes “flatter”. the love handles are still pretty visible, though, as well as the fat on the thighs and arms. the breasts are raised with the shoulders, and the fat on the shoulders and near the neck forms rolls as it’s being pushed together.
in the second, there is a lot less room for distribution, so the fat is all pushed together. the breasts sag and the stomach forms rolls and spills into the lap. a good analogy for the way fat works is to liken it to a water balloon, and thinking of how its shape would change when resting flat on a surface, hanging off of a ledge, held upright, etc.
here are a few extra tips i find a lot of people miss!
first on the top is the hip/pubic region. the first circle is showing the way the bellybutton is folded in fat people, as opposed to stretched out in thinner people. the second is the stomach fat spilling over onto the pubic region and creating a separation in the two areas, which is something that’s missing in a lot of art. in addition, the pubic mound also gains fat, making it round as seen in the profile drawing i did up there (i’ve heard people refer to it as fupa?). the last in the hip region is the lack of a thigh gap. i can’t stress this enough!!!! if you’re trying to draw a convincing fat character, make sure their thighs are pretty much always touching!! for reference, mine literally don’t separate until my feet are about 2ft from each other.
the bottom right is showing the double chin, which a lot of people are afraid to draw!! fat does distribute itself here too, and there’s nothing wrong with it, so don’t feel like you shouldn’t give fat characters a double chin in your work for fear of it looking like a caricature.
in the bottom middle, it’s showing how fat affects different types of breasts with the presence of more or less breast tissue.
lastly, at the very right are stretch marks with their usual locations and directions, which i also can’t stress enough!!!!! i sometimes forget to add them honestly, but they’re so important in accurately portraying fat characters, as they literally come from the skin being stretched from fat being gained (and they’re also just rlly neat lookin like why wouldn’t you lmao). some people have less and some people have more, feel free to experiment with them!
the last thing is body types!! there isn’t one single way for a person to be fat, so feel free to experiment with shapes once you’ve learned the basics!!
so there you have it, a tutorial on how to draw chubs!! now go forth and make some accurate fanart or some rad fat characters, because the world could always use more of both. hmu if you have any questions or concerns, and thanks for reading!!
EDIT: someone pointed out the bad wording in the tutorial. thank you for bringing it to my attention and sorry for offending anybody. i’ve updated the tut, so please reblog this one!
Okay so I am literally about to cry. I’m not an artist, but I love looking at art. And like. It makes me feel so worthless to see beautiful art with “fat” characters that are just extra curvey because I am so not that, and seeing only the sexy curvy drawings makes me feel like I am somehow the wrong kind of fat. But this. This is so spot on. I have stretch marks and I have a double chin and I have like a fatty pouch in my pelvic area and my breasts are not perky and my thighs do not touch and just… All of it. Seeing art of someone who looks like me makes me feel… Worthy. Some artist thought a body like mine was worth drawing, and that is so wonderful and validating and flattering. People enjoying said art is so good too. And like. Wow. I just want to cry.
This is a very good resource. Take note, people: “I wasn’t trained to draw fat people” is not an excuse.
