Throwing shade

Just a little history lesson on a term being thrown around frequently these days:

“Throwing shade” originated in the gay & trans community in the 1980s. As seen in the documentary “Paris Is Burning”, Dorian Corey explains "Shade is, I don't have to tell you you're ugly, because you know you're ugly,". Throwing shade isn’t just insulting someone. It’s pointing out & exaggerating their flaws. It’s a sarcastic complement to someone about a certain feature which makes them insecure. “I don’t have to tell you you’re ugly, because you know you’re ugly” For example, saying “That dress is ugly” isn’t throwing shade. But saying, “You’re really brave for wearing that dress” is. Not posting to preach, just dropping some knowledge :) P.S. Happy Pride month y’all!!
