Ah, Aurum Vale! I think I’ve finally boiled down why people hate it- and those same reasons are what make it a great benchmark-dungeon!

Love it or hate it Aurum Vale is hard.

Despite only being lv 47 and an optional grind to boot it easily can surpass lv 70’s dungeons in the sheer gut-wrenching dread it brings players in Duty Finder.

To be completely honest though… AV is probably one of the EASIEST dungeons in game. It’s the players who are hard-pressed.

Attention to one’s surroundings, quick reflexes, dodging, timing, prioritizing tasks - these are the culprits which devistate AV parties, not the actual inhabitants of the dungeon. You can learn a lot about yourself and your party members in this dungeon.

This is why people hate it.

Cohesion, focus, mechanics. These things cannot be ignored and cause many people fight their own party members more than the monsters in this dungeon!

AIt also has a dread factor comming back from 2.0 that isnt nessesairly felt anymore but was verry prevalent back then. It’s the only “last ditch dungeon” (aether chemical and castrum) that actually stops you from hitting that expansions max level. Which meant at the time you didnt have access to your full kit which added to the difficulty. Also AV was notorious for one of the worst relic steps in this game, back in 2.0 one of the relic steps required you to run a dungeon to get a special drop as you exited. So now you had level 50s pouring into this dungeon having to drop down to 49 losing 2 great parts of their kit and it was only a 20% chance of dropping. It took me personally 128 runs to get the drop which is why I hate it to this day..

Though for anyone who wants to make it faster, you can ignore almost all the trash by having a tank pull the entire room and using CD or holmgang to distract them while the healer and dps slip into the boss room and then raise the tank that dies and just do the boss. Only the morbolls needs to be fought normally as their death unlocks the path.

That's pretty interesting perspective! Honestly I had no idea that was a factor. I've only played since right before 4.0 dropped, but out of everyone I know the 3.0 and later players hate it yet all of my 2.0 player friends actually don't..?

But then again most of my FC is up for anything! Traumatic or not

The lvl cap in AV can be a pain for many classes but out of the classes I've played WHM has the hardest time in there (no Medica II), and DRG has it almost too easy.

Plus copics are actually refillable and you can buy more colored ink online for pretty cheap! So yeah dont throw out copics.

NO NO NO NO!

Never refill a Copic with regular isopropyl alcohol unless you have absolutely no other option.

Copic markers have their own ink refills to go with each marker,

They look like this and cost around the same price as a Copic Sketch maybe slightly more however they can be used to refill a marker several times

By using isopropyl alcohol what you’re doing, in fact, is diluting what little ink you have left in your make, therefore changing the shade of it.

Of course the one exception to this rule is the colourless blender 0 which is a marker that is full of regular isopropyl alcohol.

As a side note, DON’T throw away your marker if one/both of the is damaged

Copic also make replacement nibs for all of their markers

Which are much cheaper than buying a new marker as you get multiple in a pack.

It has come to my attention that many people mistake wyverns for dragons, so here’s a post to help you remember

Dragon: 4 legs, 2 wings

Wyvern: 2 legs, 2 wings

Drake: 4 legs, flightless

Wyrms: long snake like body with no appendages, can also appear as a traditional Chinese dragon with 4. Legs and no wings yet can fly

Amphithere: 0 legs 2 wings, can be feathered

Lindwurms: 2 legs, 0 wings, long body

Luck dragon: 4 legs, no wings, can fly, long body, furry with dog like face

Komodo dragon: 4 legs, no wings, real

Bearded dragon: 4 legs, 0 wings, often kept as pets

Okay. I’m Canadian so I know a shit ton about staying warm if you’re new to the cold there here are some tips!(add more if you know more!)

1. Wear grippy shoes, nothing is worse than snowmelt freezing on your skin.

2.Do not wear jeans as your outter layer. wet denim is the most body heat siphoning mother fucker known to man or god

3. Have a warm drink with you. It will help. Even just some hot soup broth or boiled water will help keep you warm.

4. Wear a moisture wicking layer close to your skin so you don’t get cold from your own sweat. You will sweat. That is fine and expected.

5. If you start feeling too warm even though you were cold and like you have to take your clothes of DO NOT. Call 911. You are suffering from hypothermia.

6. Bring a blanket and a heat source that needs no electricity with you in your vehicle. You do not want to be stranded with no heat in the case that something happens.

7. If you are struggling on ice as you’re walking, stop. Get your balance and penguin shuffle to a less slippery patch of ground. There’s usually less ice on one side of the walk and it’s better to walk in the snow next to the sidewalk than it is to eat dirt when ya slip

8. STAY THE ABSOLUTE FUCK AWAY FROM FROZEN BODIES OF WATER. Ponds are deceptive as shit even with the “solid blue tried and true” thing. Go around.

9. Keep kids warm. They run at a higher body temperature and will feel the effects of the cold worse than you.

10. Huddling is your best friend. Even if you don’t know the person, remember you’re both cold, especially if they don’t have the right clothing for the weather.

11. Pay attention to windchill. That is how cold it feels. Dress appropriately please. I know it’s tempting to dress for style, but there’s nothing stylish about losing your toes to frostbite

12. Don’t touch metal if you can avoid it. It will sap your heat and likely freeze to anything wet. Like tongues. Don’t fucking lick a pole.

13. If someone licks something metal, pour warm water over their tongue to get them free. If they yank, they will bleed. A lot.

14. Keep your ears, noes, fingers, and toes warm. You’re extremities will get cold first and are the most likely parts of your body to get frostbite.

15. If you see someone who may not have a place to be in the cold, offer to help them find a local shelter or library. The elements, especially the cold, are some of the largest threats to those who cannot avoid them.

16. If you find yourself stuck outside for a long time, sleep during the day when it is warmest, and avoid sleeping on the ground. Stay awake as much as you can at night so you have a better chance of staying warm.
