Live Journal Pink Floyd yaoi data analysis 📈
our amazing yaoi archivist @sydbarrettism has compiled a dataset with all pink floyd yaoi from live journal and it just felt right to do some data analysis on it
important to note that this is not an exhaustive research as some fics were not deemed worth of being archived and others are private etc
so lets start with some stats on the data we are working with:
there are 403 fics from 38 authors
they were published in 5 different communities, with the majority (94%) being from pinkfloydslash, obviously
other communities are classicrockcock, valmouth, classrockslash and whoslash
the fics were published between 2007 and 2023
2007 was the year in which most of the fics were published, with 144 fics that year which correspond to 35% of all the works
the first publication in the pinkfloydslash community was on May 2006, it probably took a while for it to get traction and reach its peak in 2007 (more precisely the second semester of that year)
not surprisingly, watermour is leading as the most popular ship with a total of 214 fics featuring them, more than 53% of all the works analyzed
sydger comes in second with 56 fics, only a quarter of the number watermour has
in third comes wrighters with 38 fics
this top 3 just proves, once again, that roger is the most shippable member of the group and everybody wants to put her in situations
just want to highlight the everyone pairing (polyfloyd win)
when we look at the most common pairings frequency over time, it is interesting to notice that the community started with sydger works and soon moved into watermour
wrighters had a moment between 2007 and 2012
but basically in the last decade there's been almost only watermour works published
pisceanblue is leading with 81 fics in total or 20% of all the works, followed by greatgawain, thouchshriek and siko_k all with more than 40 fics each
there are 15 authors out of the 38 with only one fic published
here we can see the top 4 authors active period with everyone lasting around 1 or 2 years and only pisceanblue being active for longer having their last publication in 2017
shout out to thouchshriek and greatgawain who published 21 and 19 fics, respectively, in a single month
might do a part 2 some day if i can be bothered
fifty years ago in november 1974, the pointer sisters were just beginning to make their indelible mark on pop music when they became the first Black vocal group to perform at the legendary grand ole opry in nashville, tennessee. a few months later, in early 1975, the sisters would take home the grammy for best country vocal by duo or group. these monumental achievements were the result of a twangy country ballad that proved that the four sister family vocal group could cross genre boundaries.
the pointer sisters, which initially consisted of ruth, bonnie, anita and june, scored their first hit in 1973 with the black liberation funk-anthem “yes we can can.” a year later, they released their sophomore album “that’s a plenty” which included the bonnie and anita penned country weaper, “fairytale.”
“fairytale” was originally released as the b-side to their single “love in there them hills.” but when “love” failed to generate interest at pop and r&b radio, “fairytale” was pitched to country music stations. and to the surprise of many, the song achieved respectable success, reaching #37 on billboard’s country music chart. this helped “fairytale” crossover to pop radio and propelled the single to #13 on the hot 100.
“fairytale” garnered acclaim within the country music, and in november 1974, the pointer sisters made history by becoming the first Black group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, a testament to the song’s impact in country music.
the pointer sisters further solidified their prominence when “fairytale” won the grammy award for best country vocal by a duo or group in 1975. they remain the only Black group to win this category.
in 1994, the pointer sisters contributed to the album “rhythm, country and blues,” a collection of duets between r&b and country singers. the album topped the country chart and was nominated for the country music association award for album of the year.
John: Nobody ever said anything about Paul having a spell over me when I was with him for a long time, or me having a spell over Paul. They didn't think that was abnormal, two guys together, or...
Yoko: They might have.
John: ...or four guys together. In those days? Why didn't anybody ever say, how come those guys don't split up? I mean, what's going on backstage? I mean, what is that, you know, Paul and John business?
Let's ask this question now! Did John put a spell on Paul?! Did Paul put a spell on John?! Was George secretly putting spells on everyone?!
"oh wow i thought this fandom was dead" you ignorant slut no fandom is ever truly dead. there will always always always be at least three mentally unwell freaks on the internet irrelevant-posting about their little blorbo(s) who have not been relevant for fifty years. this is the way of the world and they are stronger than you will ever be you FOOL
Even the fandoms i invented by myself for myself are not dead - CC Babcock/the hooker, I am coming for you. I am rewatching the Nanny and the plot is plotting so to speak.
WRITE IT! WRITE IT! WRITE IT! *chants*
the thing about rust cohle that all the edgelord dudes who try to emulate him seem to forget is that he is actually funny as fuck. and hey maybe i'm wrong (unlikely) but he's the ultimate dark troll face.
Are you the author of fanfiction called Control on AO3?
I am, yeah.
Tried to put a show on in the background and then read fanfiction, but then the show started talking about fanfiction and now I don’t know if I can
I've tried to put shows on while I write fic so I have some soothing noise in the background but then all of a sudden I'm writing fanfiction for the wrong show....

To be fair, this is just Marty's default state. He would think this looking at a doughdnut after a full meal.
