Amazing news today! Lockwood & Co has been selected for inclusion in the BFI National Film Archive, which preserves titles of cultural importance for future generations. ⚔️ I’m so thrilled and proud that the adventures of Lockwood, Lucy and George have been given this honour. What a testament to the brilliance of @ mrjoecornish, @ completefictionpictures, the incredible cast, scriptwriters and production team. ⚔️. And, of course, my wholehearted thanks to LockNation for all your continuing love and support 🖤 Art by @ joe_wilson_draws #lockwoodandco @ georgialawe @ gina.stroud

“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

Since you don’t respect my opinion anyway, quit pestering me to fill out a survey after every single consumer experience. I keep wondering who looks at these surveys. Is the CEO sitting in his wood-paneled office, reading each individual response on an old-timey stock ticker? If so, you can keep doing this. If not, I rate this experience zero stars out of infinity.
no i actually cant fit doing this thing that takes 5 minutes into my schedule sorry :/ i only have the entire day free i just cant
I feel like a lot of people get "All Art is Political" confused with "All Art is made with Political Intentions" which is not the same.
this is so cool!!
i’ve started looking at weight and health the way i look at class and income and it really puts a lot of things into a new perspective.
let me explain: in america at least, the lower class have significantly worse health outcomes, even when accounting for other factors. just being poor is enough to make your overall health worse. we don’t know that being fat makes your health directly worse, like the data just isn’t there, but for a moment, pretend it does.
imagine going to the doctor with a health problem and the doctor looking at your chart and saying well, this problem will be less severe if you go up an income bracket. have you thought about becoming rich? it would really help. start by saving a little money every month.
ridiculous, right?? very few people successfully go from working class to rich, it just doesn’t happen on a large scale in society. maybe for a time you pick up some overtime hours, spend a little beyond your means, and appear rich. but eventually you burn out, your car needs to be repaired, and you return to being working class.
we do have this data: only some people can successfully lose large amounts of weight, and only a tiny fraction of people who lose that weight actually keep it off for more than a year. telling people to lose weight for their health is just absurd because they almost certainly can’t do it any more than they can double their income for their health.
and yet i see it everywhere. a little poster in my work breakroom tells me to improve my blood pressure by losing weight! a psa on the radio says you need to take care of your heart by losing weight! we can’t even conclusively prove that weight is the cause rather than just correlated with a lot of these problems but here it is offered anyway: have you tried being rich?
You hit the nail on the head. A lot of people tend to try and invalidate fatphobia as a form of oppression by saying its not an immutible quality like race or sexuality or gender. The old “you can lose weight, i can’t become white/straight/cis” argument.
That’s because fatphobia is a lot more like classism; i.e. it’s a form of bigotry that is only TECHNICALLY changeable. They’re both seen as a lot more changeable than they actually are, for all the reasons you’ve listed.
As someone in the healthcare analytics space, we are focusing a lot more on social determinants of health (SDOH) for this very reason. And "determinants" is used very purposely because we know how much these things affect health. It's especially clear in the pediatrics space. You cannot blame a kid for their socioeconomic situation, nor for its effects on their health, and we know that one's childhood sets us up for a lot, including SDOH. (But even moving income brackets doesn't guarantee health issues will disappear! Or have some way to be treated effectively. Especially for populations not represented in research.)
So yeah, those questionnaires you might be asked to fill out at the doctor about your ability to access food/stable housing/healthcare are giving us important data, and if you're struggling, a lot (not gonna say all because there are shitty humans in every profession) of doctors want to help.
And if a healthcare provider is focusing on the number on the scale you can very directly
ask what steps they'd take to diagnose patients of a "normal" weight and request those
ask them to document their own refusal to consider other causes
switch providers (I am aware that this is not always feasible for multiple reasons in the US)
report your provider to their licensing organization if you feel they have violated ethics or the law
tell them to stop. Seriously. It can feel intimidating, but I have literally walked out of appointments where doctors were not listening. I cried in my car, sure, but I told them I was leaving due to their (non)treatment of me and I left.
If you have access to your chart (Epic has MyChart for instance) you can message your provider's office and request your words be added to notes for a given encounter. (More benign example, but I documented my child's non life threatening reaction to a medication that way so the pediatrician would have it.)
You can also vocally support SDOH research and research that looks at what weight does and doesn't cause (and what does and doesn't cause weight gain or loss) because, having also been in that analytical space, I can assure you that research is happening. (Again, caveat here for the US and our current administration...)
There is no one number that determines whether or not you are healthy, and especially not the number on the goddamn scale. Just so we're very clear, neither your weight nor your health are any indication of your virtue or worth as a human being, and anyone who tells you otherwise can fuck right off into the sun.

some people are taking "doomed" to mean "dead". this is actually a misconception! you can be doomed even if you don't die! it's sometimes worse if you don't die!
Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley? I guess so. But why do I have to know if you’re going to be with me? I’ll be with you. Even if you can’t see me. What do you mean I can’t see you? I can always see you.

#Children’s media used to be about making you feel the entire depth and breadth of the human emotional spectrum#All while your 7 y/o brain struggled to make sense of if all. But it was like an emotional vaccine#Comprehending loss at that age didn’t make it any easier to bear with age. But atleast it was familiar (conserving these tags by @jonairadreaming because yes)
