Im kinda new to scarlet hollow, so apologies if this hasnt been talked about much, but man. That line during the sybil vision of "you start raising your daughters differently" paints kinda a horrific picture when you think about kaneekas treatment, and miles. With it being said how sybil lets miles get away with so much, and puts responsibility of him onto kaneeka as her burden?
She really weaponized eldest daughter syndrome to ensure she'd want to make the sacrifice for the greater good, huh? Is that the reason she had miles in the first place, as a way to prime kaneeka into a willing sacrifice?
I can't remember who it was but someone mentioned that Sybil might have originally conceived Miles to be a back up daughter. Why? Because Kaneeka is a bad sacrifice.
Kaneeka is kinda free spirited—Sybil has just done a pretty decent job at squashing that spirit—she gets mad, she asks questions, she has plans of leaving this dying town in the middle of bum fuck nowhere. If you're on good enough terms with her she can be convinced to leave with you—she can be convinced to disobey her mother. She's a bad sacrifice and there's no way Sybil doesn't know it. She's been doing this a looooong time, she most likely realized that Kaneeka wasn't a good candidate early in her childhood. So what does she do? Have another child—try for another daughter.
But Miles is a boy, therefore he cannot act as a sacrifice. So she repurposed him. She "weaponized eldest daughter syndrome", neglected him in a way that looked like favoritism and pampering, then heavily parentified Kaneeka.
Miles was meant to be the backup plan but when he couldn't do that he became another tool.
