Yes, it's a cheesy overdramatic Irish power ballad with one of the singers going on to be a famous Irish country singer, but when that key change hits? It just screams Peter cursing God and the world at large as the rain pours down 🥺💔
This is happening and I am so excited! Yes, it’s an old fandom, but Peter and Assumpta (and, dammit, all the residents of Ballykissangel) de
I love this scene. It’s only about a second long but it makes me swoon and crash even harder when The Reckoning comes around.
When Assumpta leaves for her date with Enda; not only does she say goodnight to Peter specifically but Liam, Donal, and Brian look at Peter when the door closes. There’s even a waning guitar rift (is that what that’s called? I’m no musician lol)
I guess Peter was right when he said “I thought the dogs on the street knew”
—-
I also suspect that Fr. Mac and Brian were probably pretty observant after Missing You Already. Assumpta has that accident in the church (which was supposed to be locked hours prior). When Peter arrives to the festival he says “Fr. Mac says sorry about your eye, he’s praying for you.”
Surely Fr. Mac’s brows would have been raised at finding out Assumpta had been in the church. How on earth did Peter present that story to him?
Also, Fr. Mac clearly wants Peter gone yet Assumpta says she’s going to send the petition to the Bishop. Surely Fr. Mac would ask the Bishop who sent the letter and discovered it was Assumpta (unless she sent it anonymously).
Brian on the other hand witnessed how invested Peter was in Assumpta’s situation. While Peter would have done the same for anyone, I suspect watching Peter physically escort her into the kitchen was the final pin.
I can see the men with a glass of gin each. Brian saying “Your one in the pub and the priest” and Fr. Mac making a grim expression and giving a subtle nod.

I love all of this! <3 <3
That scene is so well-crafted, and the little ‘oh well, you’ve definitely missed your chance there, Peter, you idiot’ looks of pity from the lads are everything xD I’d say everyone knew practically as soon as Peter set foot into that pub for the first time - their bickering and chemistry is so palpable, how could you not? Coming from an Irish countryside village myself, people (especially back in the 90s when technology etc. was less prevalent in society) would really notice if something like that was brewing between two people who both clash and gel perfectly together. Gossip travels fast xD <3 <3 Father Mac probably knew for a long while, if not had his suspicions - didn’t help that the previous priest bolted from Ballyk for a similar reason, so Father Mac was probably on high alert to anyone getting distracted from their priestly duties xD
Brian was always very all-knowing - being the shrewd businessman that he was, and between his connection to Niamh, and him being always around when the big events were happening, probably led him to see the little sparks that were brewing between the two of them.
@polarbearjoke @definitely-not-pie @flashsil @alaskanna @hvkunst
I absolutely love this scene! All those knowing looks, even from Liam and Donnell.
This is what still disappoints me to this day about the ungracious end to S3: we never really got to see the other characters open reactions to P&A’s situation. I’m pretty sure someone (probably Siobhan) was running a betting pool.
Fr. Mac’s face when Michael says “I think the exception was Fr. Clifford” is telling in that they all knew, everyone knows, but how dare you say it so flippantly, how dare you admit that you know.
I love how nonchalant it seems they all would have been about their union. Sure Fr. Mac and Kathleen would have turned up their noses, but Fr. Mac truly knows that Peter is a good man and did the right thing.
Brendan and Michael seem to be itching with subtle support. Brian even gives that little monologue, assuring Peter his decision wouldn’t make him a bad person (but to stop playing games lol)
I think that the protectiveness, the collective decision to not discuss it is telling of how supportive they would have been had she survived. Peter is their own, they’d ensure they felt safe and supported and serve more than enough of their own quips. But alas…
Agreed to all of the above points! Alas, indeed!
Maybe I’ll start having Wednesday rant pieces?
S2 E4 The Facts of Life (spoilers)
For all Peter and Assumpta don’t get to experience together I do love that they share this moment. Not so much because this is as close as we get to them playing “house” together, but because that night was theirs.
Peter’s response to Fr. Mac is neither a yes nor a no and when Assumpta overhears the others she doesn’t correct them, only smiles (I didn’t use the smiling shot as it seemed too spot on lts). It also appears that Doctor Ryan hasn’t told anyone that Assumpta was there. Whether that is because he believes it shouldn’t matter or he feels that it’s best the others don’t know, it allows P&A to maintain this private experience. We don’t get know how much tea they drank to stay awake, who was on nappy duty, or what they discussed to pass the time. Just that Assumpta stayed “up all night with a priest” and that it was, as Peter says to her, “our baby”.
Such a wasted opportunity by the writers!
Honestly, y'all, I'm begging you. Take the time to think and learn for yourself. Even if it's just something casual like knitting or cooking. Exercise your brain. It's important.
Fanfic is a free hobby.
It's one of the last few things we can have as a society that's free. You can engage, for free. People give you things (art, stories, etc), for free.
Don't buy into the consummerism just because it's everywhere else.
You don't have to consume everything you interact with. You don't have to use things, just because they exist.
You're allowed (still, for now), to have things that are enjoyable for free.
Do you realise how insane the world is? We don't have many places where we can just be, for free anymore, but ao3 is. Did you notice we don't have ads in ao3? We don't have pop ups? Where ELSE do we not have that?
Where else can you just go and not have to wait for a commercial to be over or for ads to be on the sidelines?
I don't think the younger people understand, but the whole of internet used to be like this. YouTubers would do Youtube for free, just because. You couldn't monetise your internet presence before.
Ao3 is like a little preserved corner of the internet where the old internet used to be, and it's being attacked by people who do not understand that free things are allowed to exist without judgment.
Please don't ruin this for us.
Some of us need it.
AhHaHaHaHa!
you have to find small pockets of joy to survive in a world where there is a constant news cycle of bad things happening
She just touches him all over his body… and I find that very platonic.
my most favorite platonic duo
The fact that she touches the bottom of his shoe... and to make it worse goes on to touch his hands and face?!?!!!
It's not like he stepped in dog poop on the street, Voyager is constantly disinfected and cleaned because of its systems. Now, if you're referring to Kate and not Janeway 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the film set should also be a clean place, but anyway, I'm sure you've touched something more disgusting than this LOL
Also, it’s not unusual for people in long relationships to do this (my grand parents did it all the time. After he passed my Grandmother still swore she could feel grandpa “wiggle her toes”. )
So i did not find it unusual at all. I thought it was sweaty and a testament to the intimacy of their relationship. That’s most absolutely certainly a lovers touch. (As was touching the rest of his body as she moved further upward)
This is definitely a very intimate touch. Lovers!
My new ship. Yes, it’s an old show. Yes, I watched it religiously when it first aired. Yes, I will watch all of it again in triplicate. What?!
more or less finished for years! Finally managed to drag it out of mothballs for waywardmixes #24: OTP. Please excuse the not-very-good covers - Lynley and Harvers deserve better, but these were actually some of my first real attempts into graphics. ZIP file can be donwloaded from mediafire HERE…
Love the connection of these lyrics to the Havers/Lynley journey!
My new fan fiction for the other people still obsessing over The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and DI Thomas Lynley and his partner DS Barbara Havers. In this one Barbara & Tommy come to a surprise revelation.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
heard someone say archive of our own should install a "dislike" button and I thought I should say this: no, there's absolutely no need for archive of our own to install a "dislike" button.
why? because archive of our own isn't tiktok or youtube or twitter/x where users can monetize their content. archive of our own is a nonprofit site run by fans for fans, which means every content — every fanfic — you see on archive of our own was made out of pure love and passion from the artists/authors.
ao3 authors write because writing about these characters is their happiness and passion. they write for themselves, but they were generous enough to share with you their creations.
they're not "content creators" the way tiktokers or youtubers or instagram models are. they don't "make content" for views and engagements that can be monetized.
so no, you don't get to "grade their works" unless they specifically and directly ask you to.
you don't get to "say what you dislike about their works" unless they specifically and directly ask you to.
you don't get to "dislike" works that are not made specifically to please you in the first place. you're just a guest in someone's house, a house in which they let you in because they were kind, you don't get to roam around their house and say what you dislike about their furniture. you don't get to roam around their house and say you "dislike their house".
of course, you can have your opinion about the house its host invites you in. but if it's a negative one and you find yourself not liking the house, the polite things for you to do is excuse yourself and leave without telling them you dislike their house.
and just because you personally dislike the house doesn't mean the house is "ugly" either. the house you dislike could be a favorite, most luxurious place to many others.
my point is, don't be entitled by wanting the rights to voice your disapproval of things that you get to enjoy for free. don't be entitled by wanting the rights to voice your disapproval of things that were made out of love and passion — things the artists made for themselves for fun.
it makes you look like an entitled jerk with main character syndrome. the universe does not revolve around you.
now repeat after me: don't like don't read. no one forces you to continue reading a fic you don't like. quietly leave instead of being rude to authors who write for free because writing is their source of comfort.
people are so used to contents that were made because it's a trend / contents like tiktok that were made with the main purpose of reaching high engagement and making profits that they forget sometimes things can be made out of love and be made just for fun. sometimes things are supposed to just be for people to enjoy, and if some people don't enjoy them, then they can simply leave without being unnecessary unkind.
^^^^This. All of this.^^^^
I spoke with both actors, separately, on the final day of production. After the usual banter, each was asked how much they would miss working with the other.
“I get emotional just thinking about it,” said Campbell, who visibly teared up. “It’s been maybe the best working relationships of my career. She’s French Canadian… the French in general are passionate about life. She’s enormously passionate about the work. I think she has really helped me in a way to be more passionate about the work as well. We adore each other; I love her to death. It’s going to be so, so sad.”
Vanasse just straight up wept.
“I don’t know why. I don’t know,” she said. “Is it because we do it for the same reasons? Is it because we recognize something in the… I don’t know what it is, but it’s really on a human level. There’s something and maybe it’ll get clearer once we’re done. I don’t know what it is, but I feel very embraced.” [x]
Awwwwe — bring them back together please!
Bit of a write up on the new BritBox series LYNLEY. They are really trying to sell this and as a big fan of the original series THE INSPECTOR LYNLEY MYSTERIES, I am trying to be hopeful. Have to admit that I don’t think any one can top Sharon Small and Nathaniel Parker from ILM. Will have to watch and see.
Steve Thompson's new adaptation of Elizabeth George's books about an odd-couple detective duo, a lead scripted title of the BBC Studios Show
how many libraries could you get to from where you live now without looking up directions?
none
one
two
three
four
five or six
seven or eight
nine or ten
eleven to fifteen
sixteen to twenty
twenty to thirty
more than that
You can use any travel method you like, walking, public transport, so on. You can get an uber but their map has failed so you'll have to give directions. You can travel to other countries and count those libraries but you have to be able to completely navigate from your home without assistance. So you can catch a plane but must be able to travel to and from the airport. No limit on how long it takes. If you know which block it's on or which tram line but aren't sure precisely, but you feel sure you'd find it once you got there, count that as a yes (if you're not sure maybe google it now and see if your plan would work). You cannot rely on asking for directions though, this must be all your knowledge
I’m at 16+ and those are just the ones in my state and most are in my county! Plus my own “ little library” in my front yard! I feel like a boss! A library boss!
