âWhy didn't you tell me?â Max sighed. âI know I canât tell you a lot of things about the boys, butâŠyou couldâve told me. I thought we were trying to fix our, you know, brotherly bond or whatever.â
âWe are,â Rafael said immediately. âMax, itâs so important to me that we go back to how things used to be.â
âThen why didnât you tell me about this?â Max demanded, sounding annoyed now. âBecause it feels like you donât trust meââ
âI do trust you, Maxââ
âThen why didnât you tellââ
âBecause I am fucking embarassed, okay?â Rafael shouted, throwing his hands up. âI didnât tell you because itâs fucking embarassing.â
Max blinked at that. âRafe.â
âI have failed as a father,â Rafael said, almost to himself. âMy daughter doesnât talk to me anymore. And my son is an extremist now.â
Max was quiet for a moment, then he reached out and squeezed Rafaelâs arm. âCami is the coolest girl I know.â
Rafael lifted an eyebrow. âMore than Lance and Arthur?â
âI said coolest girl,â Max noted with a grin. âAlthough sheâs very close to dethroning them. Did you know she can ride her bike hands-free?â
Rafael, who had taught her how to do that, couldnât help but smile. Then he shook his head. âIâm sorry I didnât tell you about Arjun sooner.â
Max squeezed his arm again. âHe is not an extremist, Rafael. Heâs just a little bitch.â
Rafael snorted at that. âIs that better or worse?â
âItâs fixable,â Max replied. âDo you want me to fix it?â
