β‘ Pairing: Sans Undertale with sick!kid!reader
β‘ Summary: Your human body still needs some getting used to the underground environment. All you can do is let the punny skeleton take care of you.
β‘ Note: Iβve been soooooo unmotivated and canβt pick which media I want to hyper fixate on so Iβm writing nonsense. Is the Undertale fandom even alive?? Not counting Deltarune. Idk eat this up anyway. Also super random but do we prefer the small text? Iβm experimenting on the appeal and all. I see a lot of other authors use the small text and thought I would too. Does anyone ever read these? lol I never do.
You werenβt the first human to inhabit the underground and you certainly wouldnβt be the last. While there were times you missed the sun on your skin you werenβt in any rush to get back to your world. The longer you stayed here the more at home you felt. You were starting to think maybe this is where you really belonged. You were even taken in by two skeleton brothers who seemed to be quite fond of you even when you got on their nerves. Although, the longer you stayed the worse you started to feel. Day by day you felt your immune system weaken. It never crossed your mind to tell someone. You laid in bed, chills ran over your body. You hugged the blanket around yourself tighter in attempt to fight the shakes coming on. Alas this was a fight you just couldnβt win. It was still dark outβ¦well it was always dark in Snowdinβ¦and most of the underground- but you could feel that early morning grogginess weighing you down. You slowly turned over to read the clock on your nightstand. Your fever made even the slightest movements feel like a workout.
Oh great. The light illuminating from the clock alone was enough to make your head throb. You squeezed your eyes shut in hopes of drowning out the light to ease your headache but this was only the beginning. Footsteps right outside your door had your eyes shooting open. Thank god! It was most definitely Papyrus getting ready to leave for training with Undyne. βP-Pap-β You attempted to call out but your voice was already hoarse. Damnit! βPap-pyrus!β You managed to squeak out. βHuman? What are you doing up?β He answered, letting himself in and making his way over to you. The tall skeleton stood over you with his hands on his hips and a stern expression. βWeβve talked about staying up so late, havenβt we?β He gave you a once over then noticed how much you were shaking. You looked pitiful. βOhβ¦dear. Youβre sick, arenβt you?β He bent down to be level with you, his gloved hand pushed the hair back out of your face. βYouβre burning up.β Papyrusβs touch was soothing. You were in good hands now which put you at ease. βI have training this morning but do not fret, human. Iβll let Sans know youβre under the weather and heβll take good care of you. Heβs always taken great care of me!β He pet your head one last time before leaving you to rest. You were going to be ok.
After talking with Papyrus you eventually fell back to sleep and woke up at a much more reasonable time. You pried your crusty eyes open and the first thing you saw was Sans sitting by your bed reading a quantum physics book. He was so odd. You werenβt sure if it was a prank he was waiting to pull when you woke up or if he just reading up so he could make a sciencey joke no one else would get. βLook whoβs up.β He closed the book then set it aside. βPaps told me you were sick.β Judging by the state of you that was obvious. βDonβt worry kid, youβre in good hands.β He seemedβ¦genuine? Sans truly was a mystery. Youβve never seen him take anything seriously before. Heβs always put on such a carefree persona, anything for a laugh.
While you were mentally picking him apart he could see the cogs turning in your head, not quite sure what you were thinking so hard on but it made him laugh. βRelax before you pop a blood vessel.β He was right. You needed to preserve your energy. It was probably just the fever talking. Sans could tell you were still in your head. You were a mystery to him as well. Maybe thatβs why he liked to keep you around. He couldβve pushed you off onto Toriel but something in him said that you were worth taking in. βThink youβre able to take some medicine?β He picked up a bottle that was sitting on the nightstand and offered it up to which you scrunched your nose at. βOh donβt be like that. Youβll feel much better after.β He stood up and flicked your nose. βIβll go get you some water.β All you could do now was pout about it. He didnβt seem to be taking no for an answer. You knew taking the medicine would help your fever but you didnβt feel like taking it. You didnβt feel like doing anything! Guess thatβs being sick for you. You buried your head under the covers and groaned. This is miserable.
Sans returned with a glass of water and a cold, wet rag. βHey kid have you heard about the guy that tripped over a tissue box?β You rolled your eyes but humored him. βNoβ¦β βHe was trying to catch his running nose.β The skeleton laughed at his own joke when you didnβt then offered the medicine to you again. βI get your sick but no need to be a sour puss.β He teased lightheartedly. Sans meant well but you were just too miserable to care. He helped you sit up so you could reluctantly choked down the pills. The water felt like heaven on your scratchy throat. βI think you might have a cold.β Sans stated in a much more serious manner which caught you off guard. You watched as his expression darkened. βThis is snot a laughing matter.β His cheeky face bounced right back. He got you there. That one earned a laugh from you which made him smile a little wider. βYouβre an idiot!β You were laughing and that was a lot better than sniffling in his opinion. Anything to make you feel better. βAt least I got you smiling.β He pinched your cheek causing your face to scrunch up. You slap his hand away. βQuit it!β βIβm the one taken care of you. Iβll poke at you all I want.β His boney fingers tickled your side which made you flinch. βUh oh~ youβre ticklish.β He let out an evil laugh with a sinister smile. Oh no. Sansβs fingers dug into your sides till you were wriggling, laughing, and gasping for air. βSans stop I canβt breathe!β βYou know what they say: laughter is the best medicine!β He let you take a wheezy breath and calm down. βYou suck!β You kick at him but he catches your ankle with that cheeky smirk he always wears. βThatβs no way to talk to the monster taking time out of his day to nurse you back to health.β You couldnβt help but roll your eyes. βSounds like you have a complex.β βDo you even know what that means?β βOf course I do!β He sure knew how to push your buttons.
The medicine was kicking in and your body started to relax. Your head didnβt feel as heavy. Sans noticed how you were breathing a little better and didnβt seem as shaky. βNow take a nap and let that medicine do its work.β His boney hand lightly pushed you back into bed then draped the wet rag over your eyes. βIf you need anything Iβm here.β He gave your head one last pat before leaving you be. You heard the door shut and his footsteps disappear down the hall. The thought of sleep sounded nice. Maybe this wasnβt so bad. It was nice to be pampered. Sans did take good care of you.
The next time you woke up your throat was incredibly dry. Your nose being stopped up made it hard to breathe. Taking a deep breath made your chest rattle. Pulling yourself out of bed wasnβt as hard as it seemed earlier so the medicine mustβve helped. Your mission now was to try and make your way to the kitchen. You wrap your blanket around you and shuffle towards the door, filled with determination. The house was dark. All the lights were off apart from tv illuminating the living room. You could make out the faint silhouette of Sans asleep on the couch. How irresponsible! What caretaker falls asleep on the job?
Nonetheless you continued your journey into the kitchen to fetch a glass of water. You tried to be quiet as to not wake Sans but everything seemed to be so much louder like the cabinets seemed to be squeakier or accidentally knocking something off the counter. Sans still seemed to be fast asleep. As you turned on the faucet to fill your cup, water shot out in a frenzy, spraying you in the face. You move as quickly as possible to turn it off when you hear snickering coming from the living room. Sans pretended to be asleep but you could obviously see him trying to stifle his laughter. βSans!β You shriek. βThatβs not funny!β He didnβt see it that way. Laughter is the best medicine yeah well you arenβt laughing. βCβmon kiddo, I was just playing around.β A towel in a blue glow floated over and draped over your head. βDonβt hate me?β You werenβt sure if it was possible to hate him but you could definitely be mad at him. You pulled the towel from your head and threw it on the floor. βNo hard feelings?β Sans opened his arms to you for a hug. Should you trust it? He could sense your distrust. βNo more jokes, promise.β He drew an X across his chest to show he meant it. Maybe he did. You decide to lean into him for the hug. He wrapped his arms around you then lifted you up to place you on the couch. The skeleton carried you with ease even though you were half his size. When he sat you in your designated spot on the couch, the very end against the armrest, he plopped down next to you, kicking his feet up on the coffee table.
While Sans watched TV, you watched him. He could feel your eyes burning into the side of his skull. You noticed that quantum physics book from earlier sitting next to him. What was this book about? Well clearly it was about quantum physics but why was he reading it? What joke could he possibly make with this? Was it just there to trigger your curiosity? Was his only plan to wave it in front of your nose? You were so invested in what he was thinking and what truly went on in his head. Could Sans actually be some kind of evil genius who hid behind clever puns? βYouβreβ¦smart, arenβt you?β Maybe you were delirious. He couldβve blamed it on your fever but he didnβt. βI never said I wasnβt.β His expression softened and became more sincere. He turned to you with a less face splitting smile and more of a relaxed smirk like he was amused by your questions. βI know my puns arenβt always well thought out but did you really think I was stupid?β You went silent. Judging by your silence Sans knew the answer. βLetβs just say I know a lot more than I let on.β He chuckled. βLike I know youβve been sick for days.β A shiver ran down your spine. Howβd he know? Itβs not like you had been sniveling and groaning till today. God maybe he was a genius. βYouβre not as sneaky as you think.β He added. βWhy didnβt you do something about it then?β You grumbled, glaring over at him. βNot much I can do for you, kiddo. Youβre not exactly built for this place.β Sans reached out, gently running a hand through your hair almost like he was comforting you. βYouβre more likeβ¦a flower. Itβs hard to thrive in a damp dark corner when all youβve know is sunshine.β That made sense. Would you shrivel up in the cold? You didnβt want to go back to the over world but you definitely didnβt want to die. βAm I gonna wilt?β βNo, kid youβre not gonna wilt. Youβll adapt, it takes time. Youβre a flower now but soon youβll bloom into a beautiful mushroom!β You scrunched up your nose. βA mushroom?!β βWhat, donβt wanna be a mushroom?β He chuckled. βMushrooms are better than flowers. Flowers are annoying. Theyβll get in your head and manipulate you- or whatever. Mushrooms are a dime a dozen! All Iβm saying is in a world of flowers be a mushroom.β You couldnβt help but laugh even though he was serious. His advice calmed your nerves. You didnβt really get all this flower talk but you knew you were going to be ok.
Yeah Iβm really out here just posting stuff. If youβve got some motivation you arenβt using you should totally send it my way just saying!!! Anyways I hope you enjoyed! Love, Kami ααα’
