Merry Christmas! Rise and shine, you can’t sleep this day away. It’s the most important one of the year.
How dare they sleep the whole day away! I think jumping on their beds individually would be better.
He turned to face the girl, trying to evaluate if she could pose a potential threat. There was no wand on her or at least she did not hold one right nor did she have any other weapon on her. Regardless, Alexander had to be cautious and was just about to pull out his wand when he realized how pointless defense was. What did he have to lose anyway? His life? Whio cared about that? He, for one, certainly didn’t.
But then the girl spoke and even though the boy could sense certain kindness about her voice, his cynism was innate like some instinct by now so he retorted “And this is exactly where the difference between us lies, you know. Your family is alive and mine…” He glanced to the ice once more. “Mine is not even over there.” Then the Slytherin made a small pause wondering if it was worth it. That plunge could put an end to it all but it would be an end suitable for a coward, for a failure and that he could not afford to be. Not any longer so instead, he turned to face the image of his siter one final time before turning away and strengthening his shoulders.
"Don’t act like you care. It is insulting both to your intellect and mine to assume I don’t see through your games", he concluded coldly, not even bothering to look at her. She was from the Order or at least sympathised with them so there was no way for that kindness to be genuine. Alexander Carrow was no longer a fool.
Jane blinked a few times. Blinked because she had never thought of herself as naive but did what she say make her sound so? After everything that had happened, her sweet naivety was gone, the essence tarnished by torture. It didn't make her cold, it made her kinder, if that was even possible. He said his family wasn't there, but she distinctly heard the name Athena. She did, and she wouldn't give up. It didn't matter who he was, or what he had done, not in her mind. Not the tie he wore, because her brother wore the same, but this was who she was. Altruism, it's what she lived by no matter who it was. He deserved that.
"I care. I do. The only games I play are Wizard Chess, occasionally other but -- Athena? I met her. After her -- your -- mother passed away. She was kind. I'm sorry about her. I never really knew her, Athena, but I'm sorry for your loss, don't step on the ice."
Her tone was earnest, and she was relieved to see him turn around, choosing life instead of death.
"Just do it! Just change — do something right for once." She yelled at herself, trying to stop herself from crying as she lay under the crescent moon’s glow trying to will it into a full moon. Her fist curled tightly around the knife before she brought it swiftly down, sinking the blade into her leg. A strangled cry left her in a howl, eyes glowed bright blue as she took the knife with shaking hands not caring about who was walking up behind her.
It was dark, and her wand was her only light as she was walking through the forest. At first, when she heard a voice -- she didn't want to believe it. Rationally, Jane had been too lucky and unscathed, but the voice was familiar and curiosity got the best of her. Looking to see a girl, Maddie Macmillan specifically, with a knife in her leg -- she ran right next to her. "What are you doing?!" she asked, half frenzied, looking from Maddie, to the wound, fumbling for first aid kit in her backpack.
There had been a moment - one that he was too ashamed of to admit to anyone - where Albus had fully considered completing his task. A moment where he had nearly found a muggleborn and murdered him in cold blood. It had taken him longer than he liked to come back to his senses, to realize that the Death Eaters weren’t going to give him any information about his family’s whereabouts. They just wanted to make the games more interesting. Glancing down at the note in his hand, he quickly ripped it apart, shaking his head. “As if I would be stupid enough to fall for that.”
The tracking spell, like Vic promised, had finally worked. With her wand in hand lighting the way, she saw Albus. Dark hair, green eyes that she would recognize anywhere. The voice she knew so well, still containing it's attitude (she would later ask him what he was talking about, but not now). Even if the game-makers, or Death Eaters were just trying to torture her, make this an illusion, she didn't care. This illusion was one she would give into any day. Albus was the first member of her family she found, her godbrother, and knowing that one of them was safe, that she finally found Albus like she had been trying to for what felt like ages -- made her feel safe in return. "Albus!" she called out, running to him, hugging him tightly. In retrospect, she should have been more careful. More discreet. But when she finally hugged him, actually knowing it was him, it was worth any of the potential risk.
"A-Athena?", he said under his breath in growing confusion. This was not possible - she was dead, he had been told so, he had seen her body. How was this possible? What was she doing under the ice? He had to find answers and the only wasy to do that was to cross the ice up to where she was. But before Alexander was even able to set his foot on the frozen lake, someone called out, causing him to pause his walk and look for the source of the noise.
Stay beneath the cloak.
Jane couldn't understand why Victoire was helping her so much, taking her under her wing, risking her life, but she didn't complain. It was kindness, and Jane appreciated it. Finally, when their tracking spells worked, Vic trusted Jane on her own -- but promised to come back to transport her to Albus. Still, under the cloak, a wand gripped in her hand, she heard a voice. One that was calling out and vaguely familiar. Jane Longbottom was all too familiar with the deaths, and grieved each in her own way. But the name "Athena" rang in her ears. She remembered talking to her, apologizing for the loss of her mother. Looking over, she saw someone, someone who looked so much like Athena, that she could only assume they were related. Defying Vic's orders, Jane came from under the cloak, leaving it behind ( a dumb move, but, compassion moved her too much to think properly ).
"It's fake. She's not there." Jane's voice was steady, streadier than she felt and held a softness. "I see my family in it too -- but I know they're alive." Then, she took a few more steps. "Don't."

His wand slipped, he would say later when they asked him why the hex had flown over her shoulder when they were no more than thirty feet apart but the truth was that even a monster like him realized she was too good to die and so he spared her, much like a hunter might spare an extinct species in hopes of its multiplication all over again.
"I’m not sure if I should be looking in my own pants. I mean I’ve never..seen …one before. Yeah but…you have to get naked for a shower and..not girl parts? How do you work..it?"
"I mean, I've seen the human male anatomy and reproductive system in books of course but a real one in real life? No. Exactly. I --- it just shoots out. I'm just to confused to even try. Or look down."
"—and I really have to pee…but I don’t know how?"
"I've been holding it in all day, it's uncomfortable and a few times I have thought about just peeing my pants, then taking a shower afterwards. Even then, that just sounds desperate and ... unpleasant."
"I think that something has gone wrong…."
"I'd have to agree with you."
Look at me, I’m a big strong man now grrr.
I have an inkling that I know who you are.
Can anything around here get any stranger?
If it could, please let me know, so I can try to prepare for the even more unusual.
Yeah, he’s in the hospital. Coma.
I didn’t know you knew him.
He was with me when they took and tortured us a few weeks back. I didn't hurt as much could have because he wouldn't let them.
Well, Leo’s in the hospital and the death eaters escaped and are surely plotting our deaths. Know what I could use right now? One hint, it begins with a and ends with l.
--- Leo's in the hospital?
Frankie ran a hand through her hair as she read Jane’s response. The younger blonde had always been wise beyond her years and honestly if Frankie was sleeping better she would have thought of a better response to her that wouldn’t have gotten this kind of a reply, but, it was too late now.
I’m happy, he’s my best friend and I want him to be happy Janie. You’d be happy if Albus started dating someone and was happy whether you liked them or not right? What more important things could there be? - Frankie
Frankie hated hiding things from her sisters but, this was not something she was ready to tell Jane, especially in a note.
Jane just watched Frankie's physical body language from afar and knew she had hit a nerve. It wasn't something she wanted to do, but she also knew that talking with Frankie was something they both needed. This was the best way she could think of how to communicate with her sister without feeling like she was ambushing her.
Yeah, I would. I'd be very happy but I don't really see Albus the way I think you see Michael. And what more important things could there be? Everything else. We were just all tortured. - Jane
The honesty of Jane's note was shocking even to her, and she hoped it didn't sound bitter or angry because she was truly just pointing something out. Maybe it should have been something discussed in person.
frankielb:
Frankie brushed the hair out of the sleeping boy’s face. Toby might not have actually been a real kid, like she kept telling herself, but he was looking more and more like her each day. She looked up just in time to see the note float in front of her face and she was confused for a moment, looking around before spotting her youngest sister over there and gave her a confused look before grabbing it and reading it. A frown came to her face and she pulled out a quill and ink from her bag and quickly penned a response. Yeah, they are, and he’s happy so we should all be happy. She wrote back, being as calm as possible before charming the note back towards her baby sister.
Watching her sister reply was almost as tell tale as the actual reply itself. She frowned and then the reply just seemed angry. Hmmm, Jane thought when she got the reply.
Just because one should be happy, doesn't mean they are. Are you ... happy? Well, about the situation. Between them. I know there are more important things to talk about, Frank, but I see Toby's sleeping and I wouldn't want to wake him. -- Jane
As it flew over to her sister, she hoped that she was able to say the right things. Because Frankie had been distant, and Jane had been very worried.
