Do you not notice this goes both ways? They’re EACH OTHER’S HEROINES. Katsuki saved Izuku WAY more times than Izuku saved him. And even right now a big moment where Katsuki is gonna save the day AND save Izuku is being built up. It’s clear Izuku won’t win this last battle until Katsuki comes back.
They’re literally “tools for each others development” like this isn’t exclusive to Katsuki. They’re literally ONE. They’re win and save. One without the other doesn’t exist. That’s why they’re paralleled in Gentle and La Brava. They NEED each other, they LOVE each other.
And he IS a unique take on the classic shonen rival cause he actually became a love interest and grew out of his rival role.

I mean he DIED DOING HIS BEST cause he wanted to REMAIN Izuku’s image of victory but I guess you’re an anime only.

Hori has made it clear that this scene with Kirishima was yet another tool to develop bkdk. When being teased by the interviewer who alluded to romance between Katsuki and Kirishima after the handhold scene, Horikoshi ignored the question, ignored Kirishima and started talking about bkdk instead. About how that moment was sad for Izuku and Katsuki. About how it was Izuku thinking Katsuki could never take his hand so he was forced to hand it to someone else. Similar to what Katsuki did with Iida when they were saving Izuku from the streets.
Maybe because Hori isn’t following the Jump formula (like he actually said in an interview that he WON’T FOLLOW IT) and didn’t wanna write a typical shonen rival so we shouldn’t compare to other shonen mangas like this. I still don’t get the damsel in distress thing cause again, Katsuki has been the one mostly saving Izuku. He’s still very distinct if you ask me.
Sigh.. what a read. Anyways bkdk canon guys. Hori knew exactly what people expected from Katsuki’s character and went everywhere BUT there. Went straight into a love interest lane and we love him for it. 😂💚🧡
