i feel like elaborating on this. people can only ever really imagine asians (and honestly most poc but since i’m asian this is what i feel comfortable with) as objects - specifically objects of desire. you’re an anime character, or a yaoi bishounen, or a kpop idol, or a label on some food, or a porn category, or, or, or. no matter what, you are something to be consumed. this also coincides really neatly with the perception of asia as a monolith - an asian (be they thai or tibetan or korean) is only that: asian. little thought is paid to culture or nationality or ethnicity (because surprise! asian countries have several ethnicities within their borders!). and again asians are interchangeable. you’ve heard the joke that all asians look alike, right? seen how people compare every asian person they see to their bias?

everyone fucking loves asians until it’s time to think about them as individuals, as separate groups, as actual people. the instant we go from fantasy to reality we lose out glitz and people turn their heads and look away. this gets to the point where even realistic portrayals of asian people are warped back into that little box for the purpose of selling to mass market - see peni parker! it... idk it sucks 💖 please examine the way you think about asians and asia

 i saw someone mention in the tags that people also have a very narrow view of what asia even is. south asia and countries in the pacific like the philippines are totally ignored in favor of east asia. people in these countries also tend to have darker skin, so when they are ignored, they are also being ignored in favor of lighter skinned asians. having your view be confined to light skinned asians in the media (because like when are asians with darker skin ever shown As asian? indian is the most common and indias treated like its own fucking continent) also shrinks your view of what asian people can even fucking look like. i hope im not overstepping here (im korean with pretty light skin) but i would imagine that coming from hearing that dark skin is undesirable on its own to hear that that dark skin also bars you from being asian also fucking sucks. i also want to take a moment to mention refugee groups like the hmong who don’t have a country to return to (who are also made up of two smaller ethnic groups, btw), because people also really like equating ethnicity with nationality.

so again! asia isn’t a monolith! its a massive (MASSIVE) and incredibly diverse group of people. please fucking remember that asians are different from each other, and that asia has history that doesn’t include western involvement.

Hello everyone, I'm a 21 year old black woman, who has a white boyfriend. Both of our families have disowned us, and made us homeless because of our relationship. Everything was bad at first, but then we both got good jobs.

But here's where our lives turned for the worst. My boyfriend was working in a concrete plant, which you can inhale silica. He got sick with two kidney stones (that he hasn't passed), and two bumps on his lungs. So his job fired him. I lost my job when the virus hit really badly and there was a case of covid-19 at my job so I quit.

We lost our home, and we need help again. If anyone cares, or has a heart please help us. I'm so tired of being in this situation, I just want to have a home. I don't have any friends I can stay with or anything, and neither does him, and we only have a short amount of time before we are completely on the streets.
