Returning to normal life had been more difficult than she had imagined. Sure, she had been able to pay off her debt and start over without worrying about money while she waited to find a stable job, but... that had been the only positive thing. She had always thought that the expression “Money doesn’t buy happiness” was just nonsense made up by rich people to reassure the poor. Now, she understood it and was living it. Yes, she had money, but that was all she had. Inside, she felt miserable. She hardly slept anymore, because every time her eyes closed, nightmares related to the games haunted her. She was also afraid that a man in a pink mask would come back for her. She had never felt so lonely in her entire life, not even during her darkest times. She had no idea where Thanos was. She was worried because she knew that, unlike her, the money he had collected wasn’t enough to pay off his debt. She had scoured all the trendy places, even though it was everything she hated, in the hope of finding someone who knew him from before. Or even someone who had just seen him. A simple clue would have been enough.
Unfortunately, she had come up empty-handed every time. Either the people she spoke to were too drunk or high, to answer her, or they were fans. The kind who would say, “Oh, Thanos? Yeah! I love what he did. What’s he up to these days, anyway?” Once, she managed to find some of his friends. At least, that’s what they claimed. In reality, to them, he was just an acquaintance to hang out with at parties like this. They didn’t even know his real name. Her worst encounter was with a group of people who didn’t hesitate to admit that they had been close to him during his rise to fame. But as soon as he lost his money, they abandoned him. All these encounters broke her heart and motivated her to find him even more. To show him that he was no longer alone. She was capable of moving mountains. She wouldn’t give up.

Thanks to his prize money, Thanos had been able to move to a place where no one knew him and where his creditors wouldn’t come looking for him. He hadn’t yet used the money he’d won to pay off his debt. It wasn’t enough, and he knew that if he gave any to the people he owed, they would harass him even more. Anyway, they probably thought he was dead. And that was fine with him. He spent most of his days and evenings searching all over Seoul for his beauty lawyer. In vain. It was complicated because he had to find her without drawing attention to himself. Moreover, he suspected that, because of her shyness, she probably didn’t have many friends, if any. It pained him to think that she must have ended up in another country, far from her family and friends, alone and depressed. He didn’t lose hope. He would move heaven and earth to find her, no matter how long it took.

Thanos had spent the day in his apartment writing down everything that came to mind, turning it into songs. He needed a break, and more importantly, something to eat, but his fridge was empty. He put on a hoodie and left his apartment. He needed some fresh air, so he decided to go to a supermarket about ten minutes’ walk from his home. When he arrived in front of the store, he almost dropped his e-cigarette on the ground in surprise. Through the glass window, he could see the cashier. It was her. His princess. “Fuck!” He couldn’t believe she was there, right in front of him. The one day he hadn’t looked for her, she appeared, like an oasis in the middle of a desert. He told himself it must be fate. Thanos took one last drag on his vape before putting it in the back pocket of his jeans. He wiped his sweaty hands on the rough fabric of his pants and took a deep breath before entering the building.

“Good evening.” Despite being busy with other customers, she didn’t forget her manners. She looked up at the sound of that deep, gravelly voice, which seemed familiar to her. She was about to greet him in return, but her words stuck in her throat. Before she could regain her composure, the tuft of purple hair had disappeared behind one of the shelves. “Miss?” She blinked and shook her head gently. “Sorry.” With trembling hands, she finished ringing up the customer. Once alone, she lost control, and without realizing it, tears streamed down her cheeks. They weren’t tears of sadness, but of joy. She had finally found Thanos. Well, he was the one who had come to her. Maybe he wasn’t even looking for her, and this encounter was just pure chance. Was it fate?
She wanted nothing more than to take him in her arms. She held back, because, first, she was at work, and secondly, she preferred him to make the first move. Thanos didn’t. At least, not yet. He wandered alone between the aisles, watching her. He saw her glancing in his direction every three seconds, sending a pleasant warmth through his whole body. He wanted to wait until she had finished her shift and they were in a quieter place to meet up. Finally! Fifteen minutes later, which seemed like an eternity, it was time for her to go home after her day’s work. She gathered her things from the store’s stockroom and headed for the exit. Her steps were slow and hesitant. Thanos was still in the store, standing in front of the beer aisle. Perhaps he was avoiding her because, unlike her, he didn’t want to see her again. She let out a heart-wrenching sigh, and after one last glance at the rapper, she left the supermarket. She didn’t have time to cross the small parking lot before she heard footsteps behind her.
“Hey, beauty!” She stopped dead in her tracks when she heard his voice. She turned slowly, and when she saw his smile, she ran into his arms. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him as tightly as she could. Thanos was surprised for a moment, not expecting such joy from her. Quickly, he returned her hug and buried his face in her hair, inhaling her scent as if afraid she might not be real. “I’m glad to see you.” Thanos raised an eyebrow. “Really?”
She nodded enthusiastically, a dazzling smile lighting up her face. “I looked for you, but...” She shrugged. He would never dare admit that he had been looking for her, too. Instead, he chose to joke, as always. “Well, the wonderful Thanos is here now.” She giggled and tightened her grip on him. “Yes.” She had missed him so much. “Do you want to go somewhere to eat? It’s my treat.” Thanos took her small hand in his. “I’ll follow you anywhere, princess.” He could, in fact, follow her anywhere. Even if she took him back to that island, to the games, he would follow her without complaint.

They sat across from each other in a small neighborhood restaurant. One of those places where you cook your own meat on a grill. It was the kind of comforting meal. And God knows they both needed it. “How was your return to real life?” She turned over a piece of meat she had put on the grill a few seconds earlier. Thanos swallowed a large piece of tteokbokki, almost burning himself in the process. But damn! It was so good! “Without clothes, but with money.” She burst out laughing as she thought about it. “Oh, my God! Why didn’t they just give us our clothes back?” It was horrible, but it felt good to be able to talk to someone about it. “I’m fucking pissed about my shoes.” She tapped her chopsticks against her mouth. “Ah! The famous limited edition designer shoes.” Thanos gave her a mischievous smile. “You spotted me right away, señorita?” She raised an eyebrow, no longer impressed or intimidated by his flirting. “I didn’t really have a choice. You were louder than the other 455 players combined.”
Thanos laughed. “Touché.” She was so happy that all this hadn’t changed him. She loved him just the way he was. “And you?” She took a sip of her apricot juice. “Me, what?” “Your return. How did it go?” “Oh.” They were having a good time, and she didn’t want to ruin it. But he was the only one who could understand her. She sighed. “I thought that money would change everything, but... unfortunately, it doesn’t cure inner pain.” She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. Thanos placed his hand on hers, bringing her a comforting warmth that she had sorely missed. “I know.” How couldn’t he? He had been loaded with cash, and yet he had drowned his sorrow and loneliness in various illegal substances. He still did. “But at least it allowed you to start over, without your debt.”
She nodded gently and gave him a small smile. “Su-Bong, I know the prize wasn’t enough to pay yours, and I didn’t-” He cut her off sharply. “No!” She pouted. “You don’t even know what I’m going to say.” Thanos put down his chopsticks and took a sip of his beer. “Yes, I do! You want to give me the rest of your money.” She bit her lip and lowered her head. “Okay, fine. That’s what I was going to say.” He couldn’t help but chuckle before sighing. “It’s my mess, OK? It’s up to me to clean it up.” “Maybe, but it’s my money. It’s up to me to decide what to do with it. And...” She stroked his fingers with her thumb. “I want to give you what you need so you can pay off your debt.” “Beauty.” “I already did the math at the end of the third game. If we combine our pots, we could pay off both our debts and live comfortably while we get back on our feet.” She proudly swallowed a piece of meat.
Thanos’s teasing smile returned. “Us? Together?” Her cheeks turned red. “Yes. No! I...” She lowered her head. “I don’t know.” She wanted to pull her hand away from his, too embarrassed, but Thanos held it firmly. Thanos’ smile reached his ears. He would love that! He could already see himself living with her. Her presence would bring warmth to his cold, dark apartment. Or they could move into a new place. It would be their place, just the two of them. But they couldn’t. Not until he stopped his shit. “Remember, you asked me if I’d stop using drugs when I got out.” Surprised by the dark tone of his voice, she looked up. “Hm-mm.”
Thanos fiddled with his cross-shaped necklace, then pulled it out from under his sweatshirt and let it fall onto the thick fabric. “I haven’t stopped.” He paused for a long moment, his gaze drifting away from hers. He didn’t want to see the disappointment on her face. “I can’t do it.” She placed her other hand on his, enveloping it with her warmth. “That’s normal. You can’t just stop like that, overnight. You need help.” “Except I don’t know who to ask.” “Su-Bong, I’m here, and I have no intention of abandoning you.” She stood up and sat on his lap. She cupped his face in her small hands and placed a feather-light kiss on his lips. “We’ll find a solution, okay? Together.” Thanos wrapped his arms around her waist and stroked her back. He buried his face in her neck and took a deep breath. “Together.”
She was a true angel sent from heaven. From today onwards, he would do everything in his power to become a man worthy of her. In the meantime, he would show her how much he had missed her and how much he loved her. He would make love to her morning, noon, and night, until she could no longer walk and her voice was gone. He would start tonight, to celebrate their reunion.
~~~~~
Thanos closed the door with his foot. He turned her around and pressed her against the wood, his lips greedily locked onto hers. It was a kiss filled with teeth and tongues. He slid his hands under her butt and squeezed it between his long fingers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed herself against him. She jumped into his arms, without him having to ask her to, just like the first time, in the bathroom. Thanos chuckled. “You learn fast, baby.” She nodded before melting back into his mouth. Without wasting any more time, Thanos carried her to his bedroom. He dropped her onto the bed, making her bounce on the mattress. Damn! He couldn’t believe that he was finally going to be able to fuck her properly in a bed. His bed. Thanos took off his sweatshirt and threw it away. He crawled between her spread legs and attacked her neck with kisses. She moaned under his bites, which quickly turned into purple hickey. She ran her hands under his graphic T-shirt, caressing his abs. Thanos reluctantly pulled away from her. He raised his arms so she could remove his T-shirt, which ended up on the floor.
She grabbed his necklace, which was resting on his sternum, and pulled it toward her to force him to lean over her again. Then, she kissed him gently, letting her hands slide down his lean but muscular body. Despite having seen them before, she was still fascinated by his tattoos. She ran her fingers over them. She wanted to memorize them so well that she could picture them even with her eyes closed. Thanos gently lifted her T-shirt and brushed her soft skin. First with his long, ringed fingers, then with his tongue. She shivered as his mouth moved across her skin. Quickly, he removed her T-shirt and bra, which joined his clothes on the floor. He cupped her breasts and teased them with his mouth. She scratched his scalp with her nails, driving him wild. Thanos released her nipple with an obscene sound, then pulled down her jeans, grabbing her panties as he went. He slid them down her legs, leaving her naked. He stood up and removed his jeans and boxers, then climbed back on top of her.
Seeing his already hard and erect penis, she bit her lower lip. She reached out and grabbed it at the base. Thanos hissed. “Fuck!” He slowly moved his hips, masturbating in her small hand. “Su-Bong.” She looked at him with her big innocent eyes. “I need you.” Thanos took her hand in his and kissed each of her knuckles before releasing it. He positioned his cock against her wet entrance and trapped her head between his forearms. He kissed her tenderly and thrust into her with a sharp movement, making her moan into his mouth. She crossed her ankles at the small of his back, her heels digging into his ass with each thrust. Thanos quickened his rhythm, his forehead pressed against hers. His necklace bounced against their skin with each thrust.
“I missed you so fucking much!” She almost wanted to cry. He was so sweet to her. “I missed you so much too.” She wasn’t sure if it was the right moment, but she needed to get it off her chest. She added in a whisper. “I love you.” Thanos froze for a few seconds before smiling at her. He took her left hand in his, kissed her palm, and intertwined their fingers on the mattress. He kissed her tenderly and said. “I love you too.” This time, she couldn’t hold back her tears, which he wiped away with kisses, tasting the salt on the tip of his tongue. It was the first time he had made love to a woman and uttered those three little words. And it would be the last, because it was his princess or no one. After several long minutes of slow, deep thrusts, their bodies moving in harmony, they both reached their climax. They fell asleep in each other’s arms, feeling peaceful, despite their racing hearts and sweaty bodies. They knew that from that night on, they would never be alone again.
EPILOGUE
The next day, Thanos went to give the 1.19 billion won to his creditors, assuring them that it would be the last time they would see him. Later, in his apartment, he celebrated his freedom and his new life with his princess, a bottle of champagne, and a night of almost bestial sex. A month later, they moved in together, into a small apartment, a few minutes’ drive from downtown. It was close enough to be convenient, but far enough away to live in peace, without the noisy, sometimes toxic activities of the city. After starting therapy to help him overcome his addiction, Thanos reconnected with his mother and sister. When they learned that he had a serious (beautiful) girlfriend and was settling down, they were very happy for him, but above all proud. Proud to have the Su-Bong they knew and loved back. Even though he knew that money could never redeem his mistakes, he gave them a hundred million won so they could live comfortably.
Su-Bong always wore his cross-shaped necklace, but instead of containing pills, it hid a photo of his girlfriend. He had gradually started making music again, but this time under his real name. His lyrics were much more intimate, more real. More like him. Seeing Su-Bong’s efforts, she had also reconnected with her family and friends. She planned to visit them at least twice a year, with Su-Bong. She saw a psychologist and a psychiatrist once a month to treat her anxiety and depression. Sometimes, the couple took on odd jobs to earn extra money, which they saved, while waiting for Su-Bong’s career to take off. It wasn’t perfect, nor was every day pink, but at least they were trying and doing everything they could to make it work in the long run. The only thing that mattered was that they were doing it together.
THE END! (… Or not...)
