Unfortunately, so did Jacob; in one quick jerk, he’d hoisted her up off her feet and into the air, tossing her over his shoulder like a discounted sack of potatoes. Experience had prepared her for that, though (to say nothing of her bottomless store of pizza-based determination), so she held tight, finding her center of gravity and licking the slice top to bottom all in the same split-second.

But where she prayed for victory, oh, Jacob only redoubled his efforts, trying his best to pull her into some kind of headlock as he grunted, “That’s never stopped me before, Kaity, why the hell do you think it would stop me now?!”
